what they're saying about Jess..............................
These are both from the BUFFALO NEWS. I don't think you'll
especially like either one.
Pop
Jessica Simpson
In This Skin
[Columbia]
Jessica Simpson almost has it all. Cheerleader good looks, a studly new husband (Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees), a reality series on MTV and a sweetheart record deal that allows her to make albums without having to worry about musical artistry. The only thing she lacks is critical acclaim. With "In This Skin," the once-chaste Texan's first postcoital LP, she'll have to keep waiting.
"In This Skin" was the perfect opportunity for Simpson to explore the sounds of adulthood and womanhood. Instead, she serves up the same predictable pabulum that people started ignoring two years ago. The beats behind her smooth vocals are so uninspired that they make the insipid lyrics sound almost profound.
But it isn't merely artistic sophistication that's missing here. Every saccharine song on the album is either about "me" ("My Way Home," "How Could I Let You Go") or "you" ("With You," "Loving You," "You Don't Have To Let Go"). The track list is the musical equivalent of a high school girl scribbling "Jessica and Nick" on her math binder.
If dull, fatuous pop is your cup of tea - or maybe your can of Vanilla Pepsi - then perhaps you'll enjoy Simpson's latest. The rest of us will keep waiting for her to grow up.
According to Page Six, Jessica Simpson's stunningly stupid performance on MTV's reality show "The Newlyweds" has now spawned the term "pulling a Jessica" - defined as being stupid, snobby or behaving like a spoiled-brat airhead. The term has already made an appearance with commentators on CNN and is in use on the music insider Web site the velvet rope.
I said you wouldn't like either review.

Here's another one from tvguide.com
Is Jessica Simpson Really Dumb?
by Daniel R. Coleridge
You have too been watching MTV's Newlyweds. Don't front! With their careers as pop stars on shaky ground, hunky 98 Degrees dude Nick Lachey and "dumb blonde" Jessica Simpson signed on for a reality TV show about their marriage. Some grumps called this a desperate grab for publicity. Well, maybe so, but Newlyweds is the second-highest rated cable show after Sex and the City. And it's just been renewed by MTV for a second season. Joe Simpson — Jessica's dad, personal manager and executive producer — is one proud papa. Even if the show's portrayal of his sloppy, doofy, primadonna daughter isn't very flattering.
"What's happening here is Jessica knows she's on camera," he insists to TV Guide Online. "Since she was a little girl, people have been calling her a dumb blonde, [so] she begins to assume the role that everybody expects of her. That doesn't mean that's who she is. It's a part of her personality, but it's one that she's enhancing on the show. It's nothing that's not real, but she unintentionally exaggerates."
Uh huh. While clearly biased, Joe denies Jessica's TV antics are spoiling her image for fans. Instead, he generously compares her comedic talent to Lucille Ball's. He also thinks her imperfections are boosting her likeability (and album sales). "We did the show because everybody had seen Jessica as only a Barbie doll, because she does have beauty that separates her from the average person. She has a six octave range, so she also has a voice that not everybody [has]. So a lot of America didn't relate to her. We did this show so that people would see that, hey, she's just a normal kid."
Perhaps, but she sure is a pampered kid, accustomed to maid service and having her own way about things! Watching Nick scold Jessie for her slovenly ways is a guilty pleasure. "She'll never like cleaning," Joe admits. "Jessica always had someone else to do that, so she didn't have to. And she didn't go away to college — which is the first place kids begin to take responsibility — because she was on the road [singing]. Her marriage is her college experience."

Re: what they're saying about Jess..........................
I haven't seen much of "Newlyweds", but I thought all
3 reviews were a bit mean-spirited.
Still, I agree in principle with what the Buffalo News reviewer
said about "In This Skin". As I said when the album came out,
I thought Jess missed an opportunity to take her music into
an entire new adult direction....more toward a Celine Dion or
Whitney Houston approach rather than the teeny-bop Britney
"dance sound". I just felt many of the songs go absolutely
nowhere, but, even saying that, I thought there were three
or four tracks that weren't bad. As always, what's considered
good or bad is in the eye of the beholder.

Well, I haven't seen Newlyweds, as I don't have MTV down here, but that seems a little harsh to say she's a "dumb blonde". Cliche, too.
As for the album, I think it's a good album, minus Forbidden Fruit. She's in love, and these songs represent that feeling, at least in my opinion. It's not as good as Sweet Kisses, but a whole lot better than Irresistible.
