training splits
it seems like more and more people are getting away from hitting every bodypart once per week with a 4 or 5 day split where each day you hit 1 (or 2 in the case of arms) bodyparts.

i'm seeing a lot about 3 day full body routines and 4 day splits such as

day 1 heavy vertical upper / light horizontal
day 2 heavy quad dom legs / light hip dominant legs
off
day 3 heavy horizontal upper / light vertical
day 4 heavy hip dom legs / light quad dom

what are your thoughts on this approach? frequency of hitting bodyparts is higher in a week but training volume each workout is less.

seems like everyone is favoring this approach...but i still like training 1 or 2 bodyparts at a time. (but i worry i may be so stubborn that my workouts aren't as effective as they could be)

Re: training splits
I cant say I follow?

"day 1 heavy vertical upper / light horizontal
day 2 heavy quad dom legs / light hip dominant legs
off
day 3 heavy horizontal upper / light vertical
day 4 heavy hip dom legs / light quad dom"

I am not sure what you mean by "horizontal and vertical". can you explain what body parts you would be training heavy or light on those days? Give me an example of the routine with muscles and exercises performed.

Many magazines and trainers come up with new names for routines that mean something to them but nothing to everyone else.

Thanks

Darrin
