sick goat
I found this site while trying to find information on goat illness and symptoms.I have a neutered male pygmy goat that has not eaten his food for two nights. He ate some hay yesterday and drinking water. He comes in the house at night to his cage (and his sister)(she has a different cage). He gets a handful of crackers, cereal, pretzels and his pellets at bed time.He has not touched his food for 2 nights. Called the vet this morning,he would not be here till late morning.I kept an eye on him all morning, he would just lay or stand in one spot for ever. The vet came and checked him.Vet said it sounded like pneumonia, his lungs sound raspy,a temperature of 105 and diarrhea(Sp), he had pooped all down his back side. The vet gave him a shot for fever, one for the lungs and a wormer.Plus he also gave my other 2 goats a shot for worms.I have had pygmy goats for 7 years and never knew about worming them.
I have one that had tetanus and blockage. The one that is sick, also had blockage when he was real young. Tonight when he came in...you knew he was feeling better, instead of going to his cage, he went in the living room to get in trouble, so I >Know he feels better. I give my goats a TETANUS and OVEREATING shot every year. Is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks for listening to me.

During the summer, I lost two of my goats because i didn't alternate wormers. They built up a resistence to their wormer. Now I alternate ivromectrin and safeguard , a horse dewormer. hope this helps.
