protein bars
what is anyones take on protein bars, are they good and which ones are the best and actually taste decent? i've tried zone, trioplex and protein to go
Protein bars should be treated as emergency food. These bars are not regulated and I dont trust the labels on many. Some of them (like Detour) are basically candy bars with protein.
I personally choose the TrioPlex bar and Lean Body Breakfast bar. But it is rare that I eat them. I would rather have an MRP, I trust them more.
Re: protein bars
MRP = Meal Replacement Protein (shake)...im 99.99% sure that is what Darrin is talking about...correct me if I am wrong.
They differ from whey protein shakes:
- carb ratio is higher in meal replacement shakes
- on the package you will see the break down of minerals and vitamins ( which you would normally get from a meal from whole foods)
Don't worry about not knowing everything! Just 2 years ago I didn't know what whey protein was nevermind the idea of clean eating!
People like Darrin and Lori-Ann love to help people out so they can better their health...the more questions you ask the more you learn and can succeed so don't be afraid to ask away!!
Re: protein bars
If you want a good cheat bar...well...cookie..the new trioplex cookies are amazing!! Super moist and VERY tastey
If i'm stuck somewhere and need a meal quick I will eat the Allmax Isoflex bar, its high in protein and low in impact carbs..other than emergencies I won't eat bars when i'm dieting..but in the offseason I will eat them for convenience.
Re: I love
I actually found a base recipe for protein bars....I'm going to experiment this weekend and I'll let everyone know how they turn out I'm going to make them based on my own diet stats..so this should be interesting If they turn out i'll post the recipes under the "protein recipe" thread.
Re: I love
Tsk,Tsk,Tsk.. any excusse to do some baking huh LA I stay away from bars as much as I can..I treat them as highly processed food. Plus they taste like candy and make me crave sweet stuff...I know that many people have the attitude "Oh well.. better protein bar then something sweet" I agree that if you are desperate, good quality protein bar is much better then slab of chocolate for sure

I loooooooooooooove baking--I would bake everyday if i had the chance!! Darrin is going to be one happy (and chubby) man when we both retire He does the cook'n and i do the baking!
That recipe looks really good, thanks alus. 4 posting it!! The one that i have is just the bare bones so I'm going to alter and add some ingredients.
I don't eat protein bars when i'm dieting--i don't trust whats in them...but if i make some at least i'll know exactly what I put in the ingredient list.
Re: I love
LOL I hear you girl I used to bake a lot too when dieting and then I would just distribute the goddies to all my friends, cos I could not eat it I love cooking, baking ..basically anything to do with food The recipe above is prety much offseason Or maybe as a cheat
protein bars
lol....thats why Darrin doens't let me bake too often because I'm the exact same way as you, I don't eat my baking, I like watching others enjoy what I create--and that person is usually Darrin
I'm lucky as well, Darrin does the cooking and often when he is prepping for a photoshoot for Inside Fitness he'll let me eat the finished product...mmmmmm. It's great because the recipes he creates for the magazine are clean and the stats worked out
That recipe you posted sounds quite yummy, more of an energy bar I'm curious to to try the recipe to see how the bars turn out--i'm sure they'll be VERY tastey
Re: protein bars
LOL..so you are responsible for adding some extra fat cells on Darrin's bodz with your baking Huh You are lucky your man cooks for you
BTW if you ever try that recipe let me know ok?
