looking for ideas for working with gourds
I grow gourds of various kinds. Some will be sold unfinished and some I craft with. Would love some new ideas if anyone has any.

Re: looking for ideas for working with gourds
Oh, boy I have been having a ball with the gourds. The ideas just start popping as I work. Hopefully soon I'll have pics and a link for ya'll to see them. They are really cool. I have a ne appreciation for gourds. There is a certain finish that brings out the different ( mottled) natural color of the gourd and it looks like leather. Just wait and see.......hope the pics do them justice.

gourds
I have seen some beautiful basket style gourds at craft shows that were "burnt" with - oh this is dreadful, I cannot think of what it is called - the little tool looks a bit like a pen but heats up very hot and you can burn a design in wood with it - you know what I am talking about. Anyway, the shades of brown were beautiful! American Indian designs work well for this, and I saw one lady had done some PA Dutch designs.

Also, you might want to consider using a dremal tool to carve the gourd and do inserts of other wood or even emu eggshell (green shells). Visit www.rockyforkfarms.com to see some beautiful work.

Re: gourds
Hi ya Myra!!!!!!! I ahve been working on my gourds and use a wood burning tool and carving. They are looking pretty good. As soon as I get the pics developed, I am going to set up a web site and I will send you the link........K?
I find that as I do each gourd that more ideas spring to mind. I can hardley wait to do a really artistic one. I have one cleaned and ready for that........but haven't had time to work on it!!!!
I would love to try an emu egg.....I have seen some beautiful carvings, using only the natural colors of the egg!!!! Its fantastic!!!!!

Ok, you have had a month, where are those pictures? LOL

I will be doing massive hatching this year, would you like some of the broken egg shells to play with? If you will pay the postage, I'll send you some!

Re: gourds
Hi ya Myra........let me get back to you on the eggshells....I have a lot to handle here at home right now!!!! I have a very sick dog that I need to make a difficult decision about :(
If you would like to see my gourd bowls, go to www.geocities.com/missrs50
I have a lot of work to do and came up with a better background and stuff, but it's driving me nuts and I am backing off for a little while.
