lice problem or bad behaviour?
Hi everybody,
I have quite a problem with my dairy goat. She is 2 years old and had her first kids 4 weeks ago. Ever since then I tried to milk her but she will not let me touch her belly at all. She kicks, bucks, rears up like a horse. I have tried patiently but it gets worse. The last couple of days I have discovered that she has dandruff quite badly. She also has two spots where the hair is gone. I am quite sure now that she has lice (I am looking at how to treat her) but she is not scratching herself more than usual. I don't know if that would be bad enough to get her to behave like that. She looks quite ticklish even when her kids want to drink, she kicks and jumps. Are there goats that are just plain impossible to milk? Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Ines

bad behavior?
We had a goat that never liked to let the kids nurse and was totally impossible to milk. We finally got rid of her. We traded her to a lady for a sheep. We warned the woman that Rachel was a problem, but her attitude was that we just didn't know how to handle her. A few weeks later, she let us know that she was having problems also. Ever since then, the minute a girl goat is born we start "breaking her in". We are all over her tiny little udder like a teen-aged boy just finding out what breasts feel like! By the time she has kids, she is so used to being touched there that we have never had another problem.
