Paddington Speed Bumps
The council is planning to install speed bumps on Birchdale Road which means I have to drive over six bumps to get to my home and six bumps each time I go out. The Council did a servey but out of 725 only 45 people botherd to reply. 15 voted for the bumps and 20 against.
If it wasn't for some ******** stupid pettion by some council bloke changing the results they souldnt allow this.
Well like it or not Paddy, this is the democratic process and people only have themselves to blame if they end up with something they just couldn’t be bothered to say no to.
I live in the area and I didn’t get a questionnaire but I did get asked to sign the petition. I reckon many would have just signed anything to get the bloke away from the door and get back to watching telly!
It's a good point but debatable as to whether the council would take any notice of a petition from the public although they should, if they'll accept one from a parish councilor.
I think that what's happened here is so wrong that I've decided to do my own survey of what solution people want for the area. Tonight I'm going out to post a simple questionnaire through some local letterboxes. If people genuinely want speed bumps then fine but just about every one I talk to seems opposed to them so it should be interesting to see the results.
I'll quite willingly go and argue the case with the council but before I do that I need to know that I have the general support of the residents in the area. If you have any spare time to help, we could get enough questionnaires out to possible challenge the results of the council's poll.
I would if possible like to post a leaflet through every door in the area where the people who live there will be forced to drive across the humps. It's a bit of a task because it's pouring down and I estimate that there about 560 houses affected. Still if I can get started about teatime I should be done in a couple of hours.
Where I think I may need some help is in collecting the results in. What I've done is ask people to leave the questionnaire protruding through their letterbox on Thursday evening so that I can collect them. The problem is I didn't say what time so I may have to run round twice (in the dark) to get the results and that's where I may need some help. At least the weather looks good for tomorrow.
Still look at it this way it's the opportunity for me to have two visits to the pub!
Re: Paddington Speed Bumps
Well done bill for drawing attention to some thing else our glorious council is doing without really asking if we want it or not. my concern is how dous this affect my house price if i put my house up for sale will speed bumps put of prospective byers it would certainly put me off will be watching to see the the results
Re: bumps
Well all the questionnaires have been posted on all the roads that will be affected. We posted 579 in total so I’m quite not sure how the previous poll managed 725?
I did get the chance to speak to several residents on my travels and all seemed pleased that someone had taken the time to ask them what they thought. Oddly, almost everyone I spoke to said that like me, they hadn’t seen the previous questionnaire?
Anyway we will be collecting in the results between 6-9pm tonight and should have them posted up soon after that. Again anyone willing to lend a hand in this task would be most welcome or just in Paddington house after 9pm for analysis of both the results and the beer.
speedhumps
I am a Health & Safety Consultant with over thirty years in that proffession and have just received an univited letter from Bill Green who lives on (Mod - Do not give peoples personal details out without their permision) his comments and petition are ill conceived does he really think that the people who exceed the speed limit on Birchdale Road sometims in excess of 50 mph will observe a speed limit of 20 mph or for that matter read an imformation sign sign "I THINK NOT" ask the woman who lives on Birchdale Road who's house had to be rebuilt after a speeding motorist crashed into it.THE ROAD IS A RAT RUN AND THE SOONER THE SPEED HUMPS ARE INSTALLED THE BETTER AND THOSE PEOPLE WHO DONT LIVE ON BIRCHDALE ROAD SHOULD MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS AND FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO OCCUPY THEIR TIME

Re: speedhumps
First of all I would like to thank all the residents who took part in this poll for taking the time to respond and to Dave and Jane for their help in gathering and counting the papers.
The results I believe are accurate and a true representation of the feelings of people in the area. The count was witnessed by an independent group of people of public standing.
580 questionnaires were issued to households in the area of which 230 responded. 6 papers were spoilt.
In favour of speed humps = 43 (19.2%)
In favour of a reduced speed limit 181 (80.8%)
Response to our poll = 39.6% …Response to council poll ……. 4.8%
I would emphasise that the reason this poll was undertaken was to dispute the council’s claim that a clear majority was in favour of road humps. This is clearly untrue and I believe that the council should now take note of these facts.
Many people have added their comments both for and against the issue and these will be added to the forum over the following days.
Bill
PS
Irene and myself have just done a quick drive arround the streets this morning and collected some more missed papers.

20mph
When the councilors came round before the questonaire (which I didn't receive), I objected at the time to councilor Brian Maher. He told me that the reason for the humps was a child had nearly or had been knocked down. Also to stop traffic cutting through from Green Lane down Seymore Drive and Lambs Lane to manchester Road.
I said that I did not think it would work but he said that the humps would be installed anyway. I got the impression that no matter how many objected, the were to be installed.
