It was so hard! I love Eric too, but The Light Fantastic has that whole thing with Patrician Olaf Quimby III. I was laughing so hard. It was super close with that and Eric though- the fountain of youth part, the trip into the underworld (too bad I never read Dr. Faustus).

Hmmm...that isn't all of the Rincewind books. Oh well, my favorite is in there, though. Yes, The Light Fantastic is my very favorite. I thought Eric had good parts (and I HAVE read Dr. Faustus) but it was a bit- weird. But still good. Sourcery is my second favorite for sure. I loooved the part about the Luggage terrifying people into feeding it potato chips!
Re: The Light Fantastic
I had a feeling I didn't get all of them. If I'm just missing one I can redo this and add it in, other wise we'll have to cut some. What am I missing? These are all the ones I've read- I want more Luggage!

Well, I can think of Interesting Times off the top of my head...that might be the only one...
I love the Luggage more than you, I think. The Luggage is awesome!
Re: The Light Fantastic
You forgot Last continent and Last Hero (although that only has Rincewind as a bit character.
In fact Last Continent is my fave Rincewind book - I read it before and after going round Oz, and discovered that Pratchett wasnt exaggerating on most of the stuff:
Meat pie floaters do exist, and taste worse than he describes
Drop Bears also exist - although only in Oz 'piss taking' metaphors - they are koala bears, but the bush tour guides tried to wind people up by calling them 'drop bears' - as in "watch out or the drop bears'll get you" During the war they told the GIs stationed there that Vegemite spread on the hat and shoulders got rid of drop bears...

Oh my goodness! I forgot the Last Continent and I even have that one! LOL! Well, I liked that one a lot too...hmmm...
Cool information on Pratchett's words! I'll have to read that one again...(And I suppose I should lend it to SPF since I know she hasn't read it)
Re: The Light Fantastic
Out of the choices, I'd have to say Sorcery. Not sure why, but I really did enjoy that one. ^.^ The magic carpet is probably what did it for me. That and Coin. Coin was hilarious.
Out of all the Rincewind novels my favorite is, definitely, The Last Continent. That's actually one of my all-time favorites from the whole series. It's just such a good one. ^.^ Rincewind is absolutely hilarious with the journal he keeps (falling into the water-hole...). Besides, it was Australia. Gotta love Australia.

You cab't wander off because you don't even have your driver's license yet, you lazy bum. You could have got it a year ago! (Well, almost) Squelch your impulses; we're going tomorrow anyhow, you know. And we'll find you some nice Terry Pratchett books.

Re: books
Hmmm, who chose Eric? That was really good! I love the various things Pratchett pulled from Mexico (Quetzelovercoatil) hehe.
Random Question:
Which book is it where they were talking about how things got named by grabbing the nearest native, pointing and saying "what's that"- it led to names meaning "Your Finger You fool" and I can't for the life of me think of the book!!! But I do have a good guess where the idea came from.

Erm, I was going to suggest a book and realised it was a complete guess. Yeah it was funny because you can see people doing it.
Re: books
They did! Funny funny story. I went to Mexico this summer and you know the Yucatan Peninsula (probably didn't spell that right), Yucatan is the shorten version of "I have no idea what you're saying" in... uh forgot the language- Mayan maybe? dunno. Our guid was talking about and I remembered the part in (whatever book that was) and started laughing.

Re: books
Which bit of the Yucatan Peninsula were you? I was there last year, and really loved it. And did you get to Cichen Itza? It just totally amazed me. And what really fascinates me is that these societies were still completely functionning civilizations less than 500 years ago. <sighs> Curse the West!
Now I've got completely off topic again...
Eric used to be my least favourite book, but on rereading, it has risen in my estimation - especially the Demon King! I have had managers like that <sigh>

Re: books
We went to the Riviera Maya and yes, I did go to Cichen Itza. It was soo cool, I climbed the pyaramid even though I'm desperately afraid of hieghts, and it was so worth it!
I loved Eric from the moment I read it, and then freaked out because I could never find it agian. I had originally borrowed it from a friend of my mom's. The library lost it, it was out of print (and barnes & noble wanted some astonishin g amount for it). But YEAH now it's back in print and they still didn't get the parrot right on the cover.
Re: books
I was laughing myself silly...in public...over the oppresive vegetable seller bit. O.o
I was able to find that quickly because of my quote collection. I'm rather...obsessive...with collecting quotes I like. ^.^ I have many TP quotes because of this.
