Carrot & Angua
Are they ever going to end up getting married? Or is there still a big issue with having... puppies? I'm impacient! They've been together since the second Guards book- so why haven't they gotten married? From what I've heard about the next book, they all go back in time or something (Grim heard about it, I can't remember). So who thinks they'll actually end up getting married at some point? Is there a million-to-one chance? I hope so.

Re: Carrot & Angua
hmmm... Its a tricky one. I'd like them to get married, but I actually think its Angua that's holding them back. It was only at the end of Fifth Elephant that she showed that she trusted Carrot with her life (asking him to promise that it will be him that kills her if she goes off the rails). I think its going to take a while before she knows that Carrot isn't going to hurt her the way that the other men in her life have done.

Re: Carrot & Angua
Oh, I don't think she's worried about Carrot hurting her. Honestly, I think that she knows that he's this absolutely great guy...but she has also complained that he's a bit...nice. That wasn't put very well, but I think you know what I mean.

She really does like him, but she's very self-conscious about her little...oddity. She might feel bad that she's a werewolf or might feel...well, I give up trying to explain it, because I can't put it in words. But- I do agree that she's the one who is holding herself back. But- when will he propose? I'm sure he wants to, but he's aware of her feelings and respectful of them.

I think that in the future a marriage is very probably. TP seems to like happy endings and his stories often have some sort of romantic interest. So- perhaps we aren't out of luck.

P.S.- I forgot to say I love the quote at the end. Is it from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or am I imagining things? I might be imagining things...

Oh yes - I love HHGTTG - can quote most of the tapes and nearly all of the books!
Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed that something happens - I'd like to see them get married, too. But...kids? I don't know about you, but I don't really see Angua as the 'mother' type!

Kids yes, but what about puppies? It is an option aparently. I think it would rather interesting, but then I'm weird.

Oh, please. I really doubt that puppies part. That would be a bit...much. But one never knows, right? No, I can't really see her as a mother yet. But, maybe later. If she isn't ready for marriage she certainly isn't ready for motherhood!

I'm not through the HGTTG books yet. I got preoccupied with othe new books and have not had a chance to read them. I lent HGTTG to SPF, so I haev to wait 'til I get it back. I loved it the first time I read it, but that was a while ago. Curse my memory!

Re: Carrot & Angua
The first three are really good - the last two (So Long and Thanks for all the Fish and Mostly Harmless) aren't nearly as funny. Douglas Adam's Dirk Gently's are also brilliant. But nothing really beats the original radio broadcasts - they just bring the whole thing to life (and scarily Simon Jones - Arthur Dent - you may know him as Bridey in Brideshead Revisited - looks *exactly* as how I think Arthur Dent should look)

There's a possibility their kids would be anything from puppies to humans - and anything in between. I personally think the likelihood is that if they aren't fully human, then they will be 'royal werewolves' like Angua. And vegetarian, too??

There's a good chance angua might have pups because...
.
minor SPOILER for the Fifth Elephant
(btw, is there a spoiler policy?)
.
.
.
.

.
.
in T5E she reveals she has a brother who was permenantly a wolf (and is now a champion sheep dog) and another sibling (sex unremembered) who was always human (I have a feeling her other brother killed that one), I think these non-changing were-wolves were called zenorgs (or something).

Also I think there's a fair chance that they'll stick together.... unless one of them dies- its a risky job in the watch.
At the end of T5E angua sees a glimpse of Carrots darker side.

Kids
Do you think they'd be able to find the time to raise children when both of them have such active roles in the watch?
I'm still laughing about the idea of Vimes being a Dad, thats going to be fun.

HHGTTG, I nearly got in severe trouble with my Biology teacher when a friend muttered "Well DentArthurDent" down my ear in a silent class room. Laughing to the point of tears is baaaad.

Re: Kids
Hmmm...we don't really have a spoiler policy. There are SOOO many Terry Pratchett books and I know I haven't read all of them (but darn close!). I personally don't mind, but if it's something you don't want to spoil for other people, then I'd say do a spoiler. Good question, thanks for telling us.

It is true that a puppy is possible, but that was with both parents as werewolves. Then we get into the half werewolf thing and I am really not sure how that works. But I wouldn't think you could get a dog when only one parent is a werewolf...could you?

I don't think they'll have kids anytime soon either. And, yes, Vimes as a dad'll be great! LOL! SPF got very mad when she learned that Night Watch is about the past. She thinks he's avoiding the baby!

That wasn't very nice of your friend! I sure would not have been able to stop laughing either! Hmmm...maybe I'll try it on SPF...she might kill me, though.

Re: Kids
LOL, remember the half vampire thing? Let's just not go there.

It's a good point about them being too busy to take care of kids. It makes sense, and if anyhing happens, that's probably makes the most sense. I still think it would be terribly interesting to see how their kids would turn out.

Vimes as a dad! OMG!!! I hope they do cover that in the next book! Pleae let them work it in!!! This may sound strange, but I found the "But don't strain yourself" line in Elephant hilarious!

A baby...
We might see Vimes being affectionate! In public!
I read somewhere that the Nightwatch (the beginning anyway) is set on the day Lady Sybil's baby is born.

(Not, why LS's baby and not Vimes'? Now I'm being *too* analytical. And what was that think about if he suceeds he won't have nay children? Children plural?)

YEAH! From what I heard (the little I heard anyway) it sounded like they might be avoiding the baby. Ooooh, very happy now!

Re: puppies?
i doubt that carrot and angua will get married.
TP made Vimes get married as a comic relationship (orphaned dragon raiser + commader of night watch = nightly explosions) but i do think that Carrot/anguas relationship will either get more serious or cut off big time causeing massive shifts in character to 1 or both of them.

HHGTTG is definately the second best series ever, i totally agree that his first 3 were great, but they dropped off after "life, the Universe and everything". i think he started running out of muisadventures for arthur, i mean, how do u beat having his house destroyed, his planet destroyed, and basically his life destroyed, in just under 20 minutes :P
"the asylum" in mostly harmless was a stroke of genius though.

p.s. i must be really sad to have claimed to have read every single TP book with the exception of night watch. just call me a super-fan

I can't see Angua leaving Carrot. She's too loyal to him.... she's his dog, and Carrot is equally devoted to her.

I would agree with you on H2G2. The original trilogy was much better. I think its something to do with the fact that they were produced for radio, LP and TV first (hmm.... I'm not sure whether the tv series came before or after the book) and had time to evolve, and possibly included input from others. On the other hand the Dirk Gently books were amazing.... its a shame he never finished TSoD (look <---- same initials as the science of discworld. coincidence? nah. must be a sign of a deeper force in the universe ;) )

All of them? including the illustrated Eric and the original Carpet people? and how about the short stories (I just love Hollywood Chickens)? and how many times have you read them all?

Don't worry, if you're sad, at least you are among kindred spirits here.

Re: puppies?
I have to agree about Angua not leaving Carrot. She really does care for him too much to do that. Last time she tried to leave, he left everything to chase after her.

I'm currently reading HHGTTG, so I can't really comment too much on that. The Dirk Gently books WERE really good. I got very strange looks from fellow students while reading them, though. Titles like 'The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul' tend to scare people off...or at least the people I know ^_^ But, I just loved the head spinning around the record player for some reason! Good God, that makes me sound disturbed...

I agree too. They would both have to loose it before they broke up. The end of The Fifth Elephant was so cute, in an odd sort of way, but after that I really can't see them breaking up.

Re: puppies?
I think there is a great risk of Carrot and Angua having puppies. Remember 'Feet Of Clay'? The five hundred years old king maker 'Dragon King of Arms' was worried about precisely the samething. So much so that he tempered with the historical records of 'The Descent of King Carrot', and inserted Nobby's name!

And while we are at it, I believe that carrot and Angua have already been sleeeping together for a long time:p I wonder if there was a much deeper reason of Carrot's grief over Mr. Sonky's murder;)

I vaguely remember Carrot expressing disapproval about Sonky's.... or at least severe embarrassment. I can't imagine him buying them, although its possible Angua might... and wasn't it said that Mr Sonky gave the watch a free supply... and we don't know exactly what the reproductive nature of werewolves is... do they go on heat?!?!

rob, who wishes he hadn't started that thought

Re: puppies?
I think I remember Angua saying something about one of the disadvantages of wherewolf-hood being the scent she emmited when she was in heat... and having Gaspode drool and follow her around... :eek ... but that was only in her wolf form. I don't think it transfers over to her human one. At least we haven't seen any evidence of that. Carrot gets embarrased daily :o , so I don't think his behavior around Sonky's is any different!

Actually, humans do admit scents like that anyway. Sorry, 3 years of high school Bio-classes is starting to take over.

I do have to agree on the "Carrot gets embarressed daily". That's just Carrot.
