Possible Website
Don't faint Grim, another site won't kill you (plus they're fun to make & design)

Before making a site however, we would need somehitng to put on it. So, any ideas out there? We could do fanart and fanfics, but that's where my brilliant imagination stops. If you have something yuo would like to see on a Pratchett Page, we'd love to hear from you.

Re: Possible Website
I'd like more annotations on the later TP books (the way they do on the pratchett file 7a v5 - but they stopped to early - unless they've updated recently...) If you'd like me to, I could go through one or two before the end of the holidays and see what I can pull out...

WOW! Helpfull people!!! That is fabulous. It would be nice to have a character/ books reference or whatevr yo want to call it. If you have the time go for and just e-mail us whatver you get. We aren't sure how soon we can start the website because we have a million other things to do and school starts next week and, well it's just overwhelming.

Fanfiction...
*grins* I like fanfiction! I've liked DW for about 6 years but I'm fairly new to the online fandom. Are there any good DW fanfic archives apart from the stuff thats on ffnet?
Website wise I think it'd be good to have a section that correlates all known information on upcoming books. For some reason Google keeps coming up with German sites when I type in Nightwatch...hmmm.

Re: Fanfiction...
Well, Leo's still working on the apf (the last update was in July, although I think this added very few, if any annotations) Last I heard he was working on the next few books, but he's very rigorous in his checking of the annotations so its a long process.

Its going to be fairly hard to carve out a niche for a website- there's so many out there... perhaps it should focus more on the board and our activities(maybe some informal competitions[what line from the dw sounds funniest if the word 'pants' is swapped for the subject?] and quizes as well as fanfic and art), although I agree there should be a news section.

(btw, I can dig out some info on Nightwatch, Wee Free Men and The Creator's latest signing tour if people want it?)

Ooooh! Info on the Night watch? YES! Hehe, watch freak here! I'm afraid I haven't heard of the other 2 (I guess I will just have to anounce my stupidity publically), but other people will appreciate it I'm sure.

Yay! Info on upcoming books :) <sigh> I've already seen TPs latest tour info - he's still coming nowhere near Exeter. I've been a fan for over 10 years now, and have never met the great man himself <blub!> I missed him by *half an hour* in Stratford.

It's Happening!
Ok guys, I'm actually going to start work on the site. It's a "school project"- graphic communications is a sad little class, but I'm seriously excited about this. Anyway, if anyone has somehting they would like to see there (or if they want to volunteer for a tedious job :) ) either post here or e-mail us at magic_of_discworld@yahoo.com. Also, ideas for random competions (either open to everyone, or competions between guilds, should we get enough guild members) will also be excepted.

What sort of tedious jobs did you have in mind?... I'd be willing to help with anything that isn't too time consuming or mind numbing.

Our school is so stupid...
...but at least it allows us to do things like this while getting a grade.

Okay, I have a question for you (or anyone)-- What is XHTML? SPF and I were at the used bookstore and there were books on it. We both were a bit confused. Am I just out of it? Feel free to make me look stupid(er).

So, SPF, does this mean that I have no tedious duties? ^_^ One can hope...

Re: Our school is so stupid...
Well, let's see. I was thinking of a general character and book reference, but that's fairly common so I'll spend less time on that. Grim- you already said you had a bunch of quotes, so if you can find those. Anyone else who wants to send us good quotes go for it- just be sure to cite them. I'm hoping for pages for the guilds, but more on that will be posted in your respected guilds. Really what we need are ideas, what people really look for in a Prachet site.

Quotes
Ok, its great to see some work going on on the website and before i start rambling I should probably congratulate someone on it, so consider yourself congratulated spf. I haven't had a propper look over the quotes bit... and I'm aware that its a work in progress, so I won't start nit-picking yet (i'm sure 'color' had a u in it in my version ;) ).

There was one thing I feel I probably ought to mention.

In the Lords and Ladies bit I came across an...unusual quote. I believe I was the source.

It looks something like this:
||||| | | | // ///// |||| | ||| ||||| // ||| || /// |||| /////
||||| | |||| | // ///// |||| | | ||||| // || /// |||| /////

the alphabet is ogham (pronounced something like the word ohm). Although the celts didn't have any truck with writing, they did ocasionally feel the urge to carve something into a rock. Usually vandalism, but sometimes gravestones and the like. For this they used ogham.

ideally it would look something like this: homepages.mcb.net/40fba/tonker.jpg

but you'll find the above text is a better version in ascii than the one on the website.

incase the above link doesn't work the ogham is meant to say:
I has a great big tonger

they didn't have a 'k' and the sound 'ng' is represented by a single rune.... there's some debate over the actual sounds of the runes, and in many carvings vowels were omitted. They were often carved vertically (ie at 90 degrees to the image) and read from bottom to top then.

rob, who doesn't really lecture in celtic languages

what the hell is up with that movie!

all the girls at school are addicted to it or something, and after finally having a "mr darcy" explained to me, it still fails to appeal. Tell me WHY!!!

i guess that it just goes to show, no matter where u go, no matter who u ask, some things are universal

Yes, well...I am here. I mean, I'm sorry for neglecting this for--what?--over a week? :o

Well, first of all, there are several P&P movies. Although I am sure that they are talking about the A&E 5 hour one with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy *happy sigh* Now, perhaps if you were a girl, you would understand. It's a good movie! I'm not usually one for the 'chick flicks' but I like it. It's a great book too whatever Reenie might say :rolleyes

Grim, you know I HATE that nickname! *sigh* I only have one and it's detestable! I don't care what you say, I never could finish the book (which is very odd;that's never happened before) and I think the story quite contrived, to say the least...oh well, to each their own.

How can you not love P&P?????!!!!!

It's wonderfull! The book was a bit hard to get into because of the style, but I still loved it! The A&E movie is amazing- so true to the book. And lady Catherine? That part is so hilarious- and when the Aunt meets Darcy when he's, I believe the guote was "Less than adequately dressed". It's an amazing book- far better than any of the "classics" we read in school. I HATE Fareignheit 451!!!!!!!!
