If you like Pratchett...
What other authors does evryone like? I know we started this someplace else but who cares. Now it has it's own little spot. They don't have to be fantasy authors either, just anyone you really enjoy.
Lets see for me...
J.K. Rowling
Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels
David Eddings
Patricia C. Wrede (they're actually books for "young adults" but they are really cute and awfully funny)
Lillian Jackson Braun
Re: I you like Pratchett...
Hmmm I read fantasy and Mystery, but I guess recomendations would depend on a lot. The Amelia Peabady and Vicky Bliss series by Elizabeth Peters are great (they both have a romance running through them so it's doubtfull a guy would like them) Lillian Jackson Braun is really good she does the Cat Who... series (weird titles, good books but you need to like cats). Otherwise go to a half price book store randomly pick one that looks good and you don't have to pay full price for a book you don't know if you'll like.

Well I'm a girl so no problems there...I'm going to have to slow down my book buying for a while though, I've run out of bookshelf!
I'll go look up the reviews of those authors on amazon and see if its stuff I'd like.
Re: I you like Pratchett...
Amelia Peabody is amazing!!! It's set in Egypt (sometimes England) in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The books are just so good (there are quite a few and you have to read them in order).
Vicky Bliss is more modern, 2 of them are so good they're impossible to put down (Amelia Peabody has ones like that too, but these really stand out). You can skip the first one without a problem (it's not too good and doesn't have too much to do with the rest) but the rest you have to read in order.

OK here goes:
David Eddings
Piers Anthony
Jon Courtney Grimwood
Jeff Noon
Gwyneth Jones
Arthur C Clarke
Isaac Asimov
Tom Holt (though more his historical novels than his fantasy ones)
JK Rowling (although I am *fed up* of waiting for the next one - over 2 years since Goblet of Fire...)
Spike Milligan
And many more that I can't think of at the moment...

Tom Holt- I read Falling Sideways on part of a seven hour car journey to the bottem of Cornwall and continually startled people by giggling at random intervals. Farscape was briefly mentioned! Yeah in a negative light, but still mentioned! *Beams*

This was a good idea! Now I have an idea of what books I can try next. It seems that we all have pretty much the same taste in literature so hopefully this'll be helpful when one is looking for new books!
My mother got me hooked on Sarah Douglass and I don't know if I can wait until I can get the third one! I am haing enough trouble waiting for the next Potter, Pratchett and Peters! Lot's of P's...

What does Sarah Douglass write? I get a feeling it might be something I've read because my brain's prodding my memory as I type.

Well, I think she writes more than what I know of, but her books are just coming to the States (Another reason why we suck here- we get some really good books last...). She's a fantasy writer.
I stole the books The Wayfarer Redemption and Enchanter from my mom. My mom and I occassionally raid each other's bookshelves and steal books we think look good. It's quite fun although she tends to "forget she borrowed mine" at times. I had to sneak one back the other day...

I must've seen them in the library because I've definately heard of Wayfarer's Redemption. *Everyone* raids my bookshelf! Though admittedly I have borrowed a couple of my mums that didn't make it back...
Re: notepadfreak
*grumbles* My mom never has any good books. Not fair! She also keeps trying to convince me to give away some of my books- she thinks I have too many. HA! I don't have even half as many as Grim and I don't see her mom complaining. I raid my sister's book shelf sometimes. She has a lot of books that I'm not interested in and the good ones she took with her, so I'm on my own for books (I do steal some from Grim now and then though)

Books overflowing...
I have FIVE TIMES what you have! Maybe more...
I can't help it, anyways. I LOVE to read. Well, SPF, I sort of FORCE books on you more than you borrow them. But- you can't complain about it. I have good taste. And so do you. But you have to get more books so I can steal them sometime!
Sara Douglass is GOOD. I mean, I can't stand her main character (Don't ask me why. I think he sleeps with WAY too many people adn he's a prick.) but her writing is wonderful! I'd recommend her books for sure.

Well, at least you have people to borrow books from - I am the only one in the family to *really* like sci-fi and fantasy - I got my dad into TP, and we have all the Douglas Adams books (I forgot to mention him earlier...) But I don't even have a decent library till I get back to Exeter - then I have the run of the sci-fi library (790 books - I catalogued them all at the beginning of the summer!)

Re: shelock holmes
I really couldn't help reading Sherlok Holmes, you can ask anyone and they'll know who he is but how many people do you actually know who've read the books? I know me, and my school librarian.
Re: shelock holmes
I've read The Hound of the Baskervilles and (although this isn't strictly speaking a Holmes book, he's still in it so I count it) The Beekeeper's Aprentice
