Re: Ode To Firewall
All that babble made me forget what I came here to post.
I came across this at the bottom of an email today:
New Haiku version of sig:
Duct tape like Force has
light side and dark side keeping
universe in place
(The original version, which I actually prefer went something like: Duct tape is like the Force: it has a light side, and a dark side and holds the universe together)
Stolen from Marie 'The Dragonlady' Barltrop
Drifting further away from the subject another email revealed to me that a real man only needs two tools: duct tape for when something moves that shouldn't; and WD-40 for when something doesn't move that should.
it made me smile, anyway
rob, off to bed now

Re: Ode To Firewall
thanks rob, i was gettiing really confused on gorgons definition of forensics.
wtf would u call what is obviously debating, forensics?
here in NZ, the only definition of forensics, is the one where u work out who killed who.
hm... my g/f wants to become a forensic pathologist... should i be woried?
P.s. pathologist is an american definition too. it's to mean scientist or something, not the "i'm pathalogical" kind of thing
woo hoo. my first post in this thread

Re: Ode To Firewall
All right, I think it's time to enlighten you all about the wonders of American Forensics. (yes forensics here too means looking at crimes...double meaning) Anyway, Forensics (commonly abbriviated 4N6) includes debate (both lincoln douglas and others) but is mostly interperative. It is divided into categories, Farrago being one of them, but also including humerous and serious solo acting, solo and group oral interpretation of Literature, poetry, prose, story telling, extemperaneous speaking (on current events, you get about 45 minutes to write about a topic that is given to you at the tournament, using well documented news recources that you carry with you in a ugly tub, and then present it using a notecard in about 8 min for a judge) moments in history (a speech about a specific time in history) origonal oratory, and you really don't want me to go on...well, some of these are memorized and some are read using a binder, in some you can move and some you can't, and in some you sit and in some you stand. It varies on your category. You go to a tournament with your team (leaving at insane hours on Saturday mornings) get room assignments for your category's rounds (there are three) and there you compete against about 6 others in your room, getting ranked by a judge in order of 1-6 (one being the best in the room) after that you go to rounds 2 and 3 and break for lunch. Then they post the power round results (based on the top 6 or so competetors in each category) and you compete against them for 1-3 place which you find the results for during the trophy cerimony. The team with the overal top points wins the tournament. Wow, sorry about that. There's also state and nationals, but I won't get into.... yeah...I'm blown away by how complicated this sounds.

Do you still want to know what Farrago is?

sounds...umm... fun... if you like that sort of thing..
Forensics ... includes debate (both lincoln douglas and others)
This means very little to me. Who, what or where is lincoln douglas?
Lincoln Douglas
Lincoln Douglas debate is based on the series of cross county debates between, guess who: Abe Lincoln and Douglas Adams. They were both running for the presidency in the 1870's and so had a series of lectures where they took opposing sides of the issues. That's what the debate theory is based on: each person has a different side, argues their point, and then they flip. The best one who can argue their point wins. I'm sorry you're still confused; do you at least have some idea what I'm talking about now?

I'm not a debater.

I saw Douglas Adams and thought HHGTTG...that might say something about me and how I think...
Love the nice haikus ^_^ If I were inspired today, I would write one. But I am not. Did he really eat your sculpture? ^_^ Not the demon!!!

Oh, chicky pooh is not past hope...He's just a little rough around the edges covered with a layer of cat spit. I really need to get him done, but I am severely lacking in the chrono area.
