Tehr did not know why he was telling her this, not really, it was not something that she should know, his house and his people could label him a traitor for it, but then they would have already if they knew he was even talking to her about any of this.
"If we begin to lose, the Antithia that leads us will give an order out. Once a slave is taken by the Drow, they are not allowed to return home, if the Drow die, their slaves die also." he said softly, voice a whisper as his eyes looked over the creatures he was slowly beginning to see as a little more than cattle.

Celest began to feel light headed and her knees collapsed she sat up, kneeling and stared up at Tehr. Truth settling in on her, she wouldnt ever get out! She panted and spoke slowly "SO you mean..when a drow dies, their slave is killed?" she asked not wanting to beleive that at all, but somehow she did.

Tehr looked down at her vaguely knowing that the guards would have thought his 'tactic' for breaking his slave had worked, at least they wouldn't harass him now, but he feared that maybe the news had done a lot of damage.
"If it is by the hand of another drow, no, the slave goes to the killer, who usually kills them all anyway to prove his superiority. But if it is a rescue attempt by another race or an attack from another house, the order goes out, all slaves are killed, the taskmasters carry the act out."

Celest was still looking up at Tehr from the hard ground. She was lost for words, and she was in deep thought. She got up, rather shakily to her feet and looked around. She muttered "This isnt good...this isnt good" she turned back to face Tehr "Why though? Why does this have to happen?" she asked closing her eyes, and wishing she had stayed in her common room on halloween like her friends had suggested.

Tehr waited until she had fully stood, frowning slightly, he didn't care what happened to those down there, but he did care what would happen to his two, they had shown they were more than cattle, they were people.
"We rule by fear and by 'strength', it is the way we maintain control, slaves at home don't revolt, and their countrymen don't come looking because they know they will either die or their people will die. This will happen because your people will come looking and the power in this place will order it as he has been brought up to do." He stopped there, his own thoughts slowly churning through something now.

Celest had started breathing very quickly, taking in all of Tehrs words. She bit her tongue nervously as she thought. "So its hopeless" she sighed again "Stuck here until my dieng day" she groaned and started mumbling to herself. She looked around "Couldnt they at least feed them decent food though?" she asked, as she watched a woman hand some bread to a young boy.

"I had thought you strong Celest, stronger than that. Are you willing to give them up so freely and so easily?" Tehr looked at her, making a point of looking to the slaves still working hard and then looking back at her.
"They are needed alive, the order would only be given if battle became a hopeless cause, otherwise they would all be killed and we might win and then be stranded here for a much longer time."

Celest pouted "I am strong!" she said as she folded her arms. Celest looked down at the other slaves "I suppose not!" she said. She unfolded her arms and looked back to Tehr "Alright....alright" she was becoming very cross now.

"Good Good, you are strong and I am hoping now a better actor than Ryleigh would be. You understand what is going on, what is going to happen." Tehr felt a sinking inside him, a strang panging. Her wand began its slow twirl across his hand again, "Do you have the strength to do what is necessary Celest? Do you have the strength to do what you must do, what you claim you would do?" he asked her slowly, turning back to face her fully.

"You know what to watch for and the kids down there don't, you must understand though Celest, you will have to work, have to pretend to be broken and weak. Have to obey ther orders, they won't whip because you wear my band, hold out until the taskmasters turn and then" Tehr knew he would be dead within a heartbeat if this was heard,
"don't let your people die down here. Can you do this?"

Celest looked around to be certain they werent going to be overheard. She nodded very slowly "Yes! Alright! I wont!" she said looking back down at the others. They looked so beat, so in need of care.
Celest's bit her lower lip and shivered slightly "They wont whip me because I wear your band right? As long as I pretend to work?" she said just clarifying everything.

Tehr looked at his people, the Drow, confused beyond his knowing, "Not without my permission, private slaves cannot be hurt without the permission of their owner." He twirled the wand one last time, catching it deftly by the tip and presenting the handle to Celest.
"You must do nothing unless we are attacked, even then only if we turn on you and draw weapons. If you act before then you will be attacked, the slaves down there all have wands, but they are weakened, they will not be able to fight well, if even at all." He stopped, frowning at himself.

Tehr nodded, sliding the key to her shackles into his hand and slowly unlocking them, "It is what I can do. Do not waste this chance Celest, your peoples lives may well depend on it."
He looked away from her eyes, toward the telepath, knowing that he should have been betrayed by now by that man, he fingered the dagger again, "I will not be weak." he muttered from nowhere.

Celest smiled for the first time in awhile as she moved her wrists a bit. She was out of the shackles again and she had her wand again. But this time she wouldnt be attacking a guard.
She shot a few red sparks out of the end of her wand, just to make sure everything was working properly. She nodded and turned to Tehr "Should I go down there?" she asked...

Tehr nodded, distant and numb to what he was doing, betraying his house, betraying his people. No, he told himself, he was levelling the playing field, removing the Drow's advantage of total surprise, giving the humans a chance to survive.
"Yes, now keep yourself in check and do not waste this Celest." He stood waiting and watching.
