August Terragenesis Competition.
Good day people,

Since it's the 4th of August already, I have taken the liberty to hastily start the new competition.

Phranc is the winner of the July competition.
He built a great looking bridge. Check it out:
photobucket.com/albums/y239/phranc

This month's target will be to build a TOWER.
No mandatory materials. Use anything you like.
It would be nice if you included a good looking base.
Take In-Progress photo's of your work.

Feel free to build any tower you like.
This can be a stone tower like Disko just built, or perhaps a rickety wooden guard tower.
Or what about a church tower, or a train station's water tower,
or maybe even a light house at the beach.
Let your imagination run free.

If there are multiple entries, I suggest that the winner of the August competition
will be chosen by all of us. A forum poll would be a good tool for that.

Since this competition starts a bit late and some people will notice it even later,
I would like to suggest to distribute next month over the current August comp
and the upcoming October competition.
Which means the Aug comp will end at the 15th of September,
and the 'October' comp would start around the 16th of Sept.
Any thoughts on that? ... Specially from people entering this competition. ;)

I hope you will enjoy building a tower,
and perhaps we'll see more entries than in previous competitions.
Unless anyone objects, I'm gonna have a go at it myself as well.

Have fun!
Greetings,
Bushdoctor.

Commander Eckert,
While on routine patrol of the Plaxtoon Quadrant my spotter noticed unusual activity o:rolleyes n Massoc 5. As our records indicate Massoc 5 is a peacful Eldar colony. We have believed up to this point that there is no military presence of Eldar or any other race on this planet. After reviewing our data there is cause to conclude that they are building a structure of sorts. It is uncertain at this time what type of structure this is... We will upate you with more information as it is available.

Yay for August/September
Though I'm actually planning out the items I want to make for the past competition, I did just have some "tower" ideas. I don't have an actual game system to play, but will probably build these to fit on a "BattleMasters" hex map. Not that they would fit into the rules very well. But maybe they will look neat. Thanks!

(Nice bridge Phranc)

Story Clarification
I meant "BattleMasters" which would mostly ignore the piece.

The Build rules I can handle, I think.

Story has different meanings, so can we clear this up?

Additional Tower Ideas
I've had a few extra tower ideas, but I am only going to use one ( I don't know which one yet ). I'll post them in addition to Bush's ideas. Could give late joiners enough time to add to the competition as well.

Bush's Ideas:
Stone Tower (like Disko's excellent tower)

Rickety Wooden Guard Tower

Church Bell Tower (perhaps a WWII sniper nest?)

Train Station Water Tower

Light House at the beach

Additional Ideas (Mostly Fantasy):
Large tower under construction, with wooden scaffolding acting as entrances to various floors.

Nomadic Guard Tower, like a rickety wood tower, covered in hides and furs to offer protection to guards.

Windmill - I think someone wanted to do this for the power generator, why not do it for the tower?

Observatory - A tall tower with some kind of telescope at the top.

Tree Tower, the base and height supplied by a thick tree, which flets set in the limbs of the tree.

LOTR Gondor Signal Fire Tower, like the lighthouse, could be quite useful in objective based games.

Good luck, hopefully more people will be interested in this round! The more, the better, as we'll get more learning experience out of it. Thanks.

Lt. Stillwell,

I brought your information before the councel and it caused great concern. We have for some time suspected that the Eldar on Massoc 5 have been too quiet. They must be up to grand sceme of unknown magnitude. You are hereby ordered to send a Sythscout under cloak down to Massoc 5 in attepmt to steal the Eldar blueprints of this building of interest. The councel has granted you Level 4 authorization for this mission. We fully understand that this could violate our peaceful co-habitation with the eldar in this region but the councel believes this to be a matter of utmost importance. You are to report the blueprints on this secure channel immediately. They Sythscout should be able to capture some digital images of the materials they are using. This should give us information on what they are up to.

Re: august competition
I might add a Battletech city defense tower. I've already built one but "august contest" implies that I start building a new one. So I can make an larger and improved version of the old one.

This all depends on whether I have any spare time, of course.

Re: august competition
Wow. I need to make some photos.
Great work guys.
Certainguy, you finished fast! The shape of your structure looks cool,
but I can't see any details really. Is it possible to make some new pics?

Phranc. Dude, that looks good sofar.
I thought I'd use an easy material this time and went for cardboard,
but you seem to be taken things quite serious again!
That's some heavy competition you're laying on us. Heheh.
A great start.. I'm very curious where it will go.

I spend quite some time trying to decide what kind of tower I wanted to build.
After a few days the answer came by itself while I was watching the mini series Dinotopia.
The architecture used in that Disney series is breath taking,
and so I based my tower on theirs.
I will try to get a picture up soon!

Anyone else tempted to make a tower?
C'mon regular TG visitors! We know you're busy on all kinds of projects,
but there's still a lot of time to go on this contest...
You folks know you can squeeze this in. ;)

Greets!
Bushdoctor.

Re: august competition
i tend to built things like i would in real life. i make blueprints and try to make it look as realistic as posible. the tower i posted is only part of the over all tower. im limited in how high i can build ( goes under glass eventualy). as for direction: moveing parts that work, second tower and will tie into the bridge i built hence the use of materials and colouring thats the same as the bridge. now if i can get away from playing madden 06 for a few days (so hard that game is so cool) ill realy be able to get in to it and give another good showing of my building skills.

I think soda cans are pretty much a prerequisite (sp?) to fall into the view of in-progress shots... :)

Re: august competition
didnt notice that the cans were in the picture or the cookies and camels. stayed up much later then i should have working on it, till 2:30. only reason i went bed was i started glueing my fingers together. i was on role.

tip: if your useing stains instead or paints stain first then glue because stain wont stick to superglue
