Guys, this isn't a 'show' that is trying to stay 'open' to make money. This is a stage where people can get up and try stuff. The audience is made up of mostly students. That's what it's supposed to be. Getting more people to come is a welcome thing... but, this is more for the improv community and the students that make it up. Student... Experimental... Theater.
Like the students, we are learning what better serves you guys. Trust me, we had an informal meeting last week and we have a formal one on the way. The S.E.T. is being worked on. And can you believe it... the S.E.T. is almost 1 year old?!
Jeff, I don't think you understood what I was saying about the gun. It was a joke off the fact that the format is 'making' people be rude. Sorry I made you write all those paragraphs. And sorry your logic felt challenged. Not sure what the means, but I'm sorry I did it. I don't see seventy five percent of our audience leaving.
I love that more people are joining the boards and people are talking.
Have something you want to try on the stage? Let us know. We'll get you some stagetime.
Blah, blah, blah...
Pang, let me just say that I AM trying to kiss ass to JZ.
What is that saying? Everybody has their own opinion...
And until you have thousands of performances under your belt, I suggest you keep your opinion to yourself on this one, guys.
Until you find a venue and an audience and execute your own show at it, that is.
And I'm not saying that to kiss ass. I'm saying that because I grew up in Vegas and never had anything like S.E.T. to occupy my Monday nights with. Super Yum Yum was cool, but they were one troupe performing in one night... This is several! What's wrong with that? It's cool that you guys are bending your minds to come up with better formats, but geez-louise, write it in a notebook and work on it later...
Don't bite the hand that feeds you! There, that's a much better saying.
Re: Blah, blah, blah...
I agree that it would not be wise to take the SET for granted. Like Nat, I was born and raised here in Vegas, but I did have a chance to live in San Diego for awhile. Lets just say that being able to perfrom in ANY venue out there took YEARS of classes and jumping through hoops. So, having an improv "hub" in this culturally challenged town is remarkable all by itself.
I think most people in here really enjoy the SET, and that's why they are trying to give suggestions about how to improve it. Persoanlly, I love the format and length. The only thing I woulkd tweak would be more STYLES of imrpov. Musical improv, Laronde longform, group-mind exercises(Like when Liz's workshop played), and even a sprinkle of short form once in awhile. The podcast audio format was an example of what I am talking about; the general format of the show remained the same, but we were also treated to improvisers stretching their wings in new ways.
I'm certain that all of us would agree on one thing; considering the town we live in, the SET is something we need to hold onto for dear life.
Now, with that said, I'm going to let Josh and the others manage SET how they see fit- with only an occasional loud tantrum demanding some MUSDICAL improv once in awhile to keep up the good fight!
Re: what the?!
185 improvisors walk into a bar and the bartender says "We dont serve improvisers" the 185 improvisors......couldnt think of anything to say.
Ya i know that was stupid, i just wanted to throw everyone off by changing the subject with some random shit...and i know i spelled improvisers 2 different ways because i didnt know the correct way and the spell check didnt work. Gimme a break, im from hawaii.
Quote:First and foremost, let me just say this... the SET it's not even funny
Good job Mike... don't be so douchey
Quote:One is a situation of two extenuating circumstances being negotiated by an individual, the other is not. The other is a knee jerk attempt to invalidate a good argumant by placing it in a context of forced agreement, without any actual corrolation.
...controlling SET to benifit himself
I was very impressed, and then I saw 'benifit'. Dang spell check...
Obviously I've missed out on a lot of discussion so I had to get my little bits out at the top. Oh, yea, I don't know who Beat is, so I apologize in advance if my little jokey joke above made you upset. But you seem like an educated individual, so I hope you can appreciate ridiculous verbal ridicule.
So back to the topic at hand. Josh was like, oh man I love the SET, so then I was like, hey josh, why don't you come out and have a drink tonight, and then josh was like, yea id like to come out tonight cause ive been inside all day, and then i was like, thats awesome cause your awesome josh, and then josh was like, oh im not so awesome anymore cause im going to stay home and cry, and then i was like, but cmon josh your so awesome, and then josh was like, well now im a little less awesome, bye...
But seriously now everyone... you want to come to the SET tonight. On the Rocks is going to blow your mind. Be prepared for a sold out show, because we paid like 30 prostitutes to come to the show. Sorry if any of the prostitutes are reading this, but you can't blame me for giving a shout out. Ok, I've done enough silly things already so I'll just say, come to the show tonight... and if you know the cast of On the Rocks give one of us a call and we'll invite you to the "Pre-game" party. That way you know that we're not messing around when we say that improv can be performed after a few drinks.
Last time.... COME TO THE ON THE ROCKS PREMIERE TONIGHT OR YOU WILL HATE YOURSELF FOREVER!!! (Sorry for yelling)
Doh! No SET for me tonight. Can't seem to scrounge up a ride.
Oh well, hopefully next week.
I was looking forward to seeing what OTR has to offer. A detailed overview of how things go down tonight would be most appreciated.

Re: Geez.
i came late so i missed most of the first group but "Hank" was funny. My favorite part was when paul started swaying his arms back and forth and said in a high pitched voice "Welcome to the cheese boat" and everyone else jumped in and started swaying their arms and josh was in the middle and had to pick which cheese was the correct one or he too will become part of the cheese boat.
Re: Geez.
There was a cheese boat at the SET last night. Dammit! I missed it. Sorry I haven't been around so much anymore. It's tough keeping up with work and cutting up my facial hair into ridiculous shapes. It's really tough getting this On the Rocks thing going now that we had Reid drop, but we're deciding what we're going to do without him. The problem is that as much as Reid did not fit he fit so well. That doesn't make sense unless you know all of us and how we are off stage. We all miss him but he's taking care of his own stuff and thats a good thing. So don't be upset if you don't see us around so much anymore, we're working hard on getting a show to you guys. Let's hope everyone has a good laugh...
Re: ...
Well, I usually go. Doug's was working nights for the last few weeks and Kevin's car broke down and his car was in the shop for the last few weeks. Broke down is incorrect. That dumb fuck hit a curb and busted his axel. Tee Hee. Anyways, this week we would have loved to go, but it was the only time we could get together for a practice. So while you were enjoying a lovely show, we were grueling over our latest endevour trying to make it presentable for the SET on May 8th. However, I'll do my best to be there and get the boys there this Monday. Who's going up this Monday anyways?
