Re: I'd like to thank all of your for sticking with this while I took forever to post, and I'd like to thank those of you who are re-reading this. Standing in the doorway Joey watched as Pacey sat there with his head down, not looking up. All she wanted right now was to look into his beautiful blue eyes, the eyes that would tell her without words that they could make it through this, eyes the told her how much he loved and cherished her. But after the other night, she wasn’t so sure what his eyes would say to her. Would they tell her to go away or would they be the same welcoming eyes she had grown accustomed to? Either way, Joey was going to tell Pacey what she had gone to tell him the other night, but this time he would listen to her and there would be no interruptions, he would listen to every last thing she had to say, even if it killed her. Taking a deep breath, Joey took that first step towards him. It was now or never. It was time to lay her heart open to him, just like he had done to her not so long ago. Sitting on the stool next to him, she waited for Pacey to look at her, acknowledge her, talk to her, but most of all…listen to her. “What are you doing here Jo?” Pacey asked, not moving his eyes from their spot on the bar. “I came to talk to you Pacey.” She replied with determination. “I think we’ve said everything that needed to be said Jo. Although, I do want to talk to you about Cassie.” “Cassie? What about Cassie?” Pacey, against his better judgement, allowed himself to make eye contact with her. He knew the second he looked into her eyes that he would be reminded of how much he loved her, wanted her and her daughter in his life forever, and he knew that he would be reminded that they weren’t his and they wouldn’t be in his life the way he wanted. And that was, Joey as his wife, and Cassie as his stepdaughter. “Well, I was hoping that you and Mark would be okay with me seeing her and taking her out from time to time.” Pacey said quietly, looking away from her. Joey’s heart broke by the look of despair in Pacey’s eyes. All she wanted to do was pull him into her arms, hold him, kiss him, and tell him that everything was going to be alright. But she knew she couldn’t just walk up to him and embrace him, she had to talk to him, make him listen, make him understand, that everything he was thinking, was a mistake. “That won’t be necessary Pacey.” “What? You’re not going to let me see her?” Pacey’s voice boomed throughout the room as he stood up and began pacing the floor. “That’s not fair Joey, I love that little girl like she’s my own. You can’t do that to me or to her. I won’t let you.” Joey stood up, anger bubbling in the pit of her stomach. She was more than a little sick of him jumping to conclusions and assuming the worst. “Jesus Christ Pacey! If you’d shut the @#%$ up for a minute and let me finish a sentence for once, you’d know that you don’t know what the @#%$ you’re talking about.” Joey yelled at him from where she was standing. She knew if she moved she’d either smack the @#%$ out of him, shake some sense into that head of his, or worst case scenario, she’d end up leaving. “Oh, I don’t know what the @#%$ I’m talking about now, huh?” “No, you don’t. And now you’re going to stand there and listen to every word I have to say to you. You will not interrupt me, understood?” Pacey opened his mouth to say something, but Joey held her hand up to silence him. “I said don’t talk Pacey. You’ve said enough and now it’s my turn.” Joey took a deep breath before continuing. “You’re going to hear what I went to tell you that night…you know, the night you wouldn’t let me get a word in edgewise and you flapped your gums about Mark and I.” Joey stopped and inhaled deeply. This was not how she envisioned this conversation going. She didn’t want to fight with him, she didn’t want to yell, and she didn’t want to be angry. There had been enough fighting, enough yelling and enough anger in this relationship already. It was time to put all of that behind them and move on to the good stuff. “Pacey,” she started off softly. “I know what you thought you saw when you came to the B&B, but if you would’ve stayed, you would have seen me reject Mark. Hell, if you‘d stayed you would have saved me from driving over to your apartment to tell you that I love you. I could have told you right then and there. I wouldn’t have had to wait to tell you how much you mean to me, how much I need you, how much I want you, and I wouldn’t have had to wait to tell you that I’m so in love with you that it scares the hell out of me. And as scary as that is for me, it’s not nearly as scary as the thought of living the rest of my life without you. I want and need you in my life Pacey and not only as my best friend, but as my confidante, lover, and boyfriend.” Joey blushed slightly, feeling like a teenage girl again when she said boyfriend. “You told me that mine was the face you wanted to see every night before you went to bed, and you said that you wanted my face to be the first you saw every morning when you opened your eyes. Well, I want the same thing Pacey. I want it to be you next to me every night when I go to bed, I want it to be your arms around me, your lips on mine, I want to wake up next to you every morning Pacey, every morning for the rest of my life.” Pacey stood there dumbfounded by Joey’s words. She had finally said everything he wanted to hear and he couldn’t think of a damn thing to say. The only thing going through his mind was Joey’s words she had just spoken and the horrible things he had said to her that night at his apartment. Joey waited for him to say something, anything, and when Pacey didn’t utter a word, Joey could feel her resolve slipping. Sighing dejectedly she slowly walked over to him. She had to make him look into her eyes to see that she was speaking from her heart, from her soul. Placing her hand under his chin, she turned his head so they were eye to eye. She could see the love and admiration that he held for her in his blue orbs, and she could feel the connection that was there. They were connected mind, body, heart and soul. Even if he didn’t say anything, she knew that they were one. “I’ve said what I came to say Pacey and I’m sorry that it took me so long to say this to you. And I’m also sorry that you were hurt.” Joey moved closer and pressed her lips to his, brushing them softly with her own. “It’s up to you now Pace, you know where to find me, when, and if you want to.” Backing away from him, Joey walked towards the door, praying he would stop her, pull her into his arms and tell her that they would be okay, that they were going to make it. Stopping at the door a little longer than she should have, she waited. When he said nothing, Joey opened the door and walked out. “So what are you going to do Jo?” Danielle questioned. “I’m not sure yet.” “Well you have to tell him Joey.” “I know that Danielle. I just didn’t want to tell him today while I was there. If he comes back, I want it to be because he loves me, not because I’m pregnant with his child. I’ll tell him either way, but I didn’t want him to feel obligated to be with me.” “I know for a fact that he wouldn’t feel obligated Jo, he loves you and by you telling him that you’re going to have his baby would just add to that, ya know?” “I’m not so sure. I hurt him Danielle and I just hope that it’s not too late.” Joey sighed and looked at her friend. “Why didn’t I just listen to you in the beginning?” “That’s an easy one…you’re an ass.” Danielle smirked at her. “Gee thanks. You know how to make a person feel so much better when they feel like @#%$.” Joey rolled her eyes at her. “Tell me again why I let you into my house?” Danielle grinned at her. “Because you love me and your daughter thinks the world of me.” “Yeah well, right now I’m not feeling that much love for you.” “You love me and you know it, now be a good little Joey and tell me.” “Nope!” Joey shook her head. “As a matter of fact, I feel nothing for you and the sight of you is making my stomach churn.” “Oh, that’s not because of me sweetheart. That’s morning sickness.” “Not likely, but I’m not looking forward to that. You know,” Joey’s face turned serious. “I’m scared. When I was pregnant with Cassie, I had Mark there with me through it all. And now…now I’m going to be alone, I don’t know how to do this by myself Danielle.” “Awww,” Danielle got up from her chair and went to Joey, wrapping her arms around her friend’s shoulders. “You’re not going to be alone Jo. I know everything’s going to work itself out. I know that you and Pacey will be deliriously happy. Just give it some time; it’s only been two days since you saw him. He’ll come to you Joey, I just have that feeling. I’ve seen the way he looks at you, I’ve seen the love he has for you in his eyes and a love like that just doesn’t disappear.” “Thanks,” Joey sniffled. “Anytime honey. And don’t you dare go wiping your nose on my shirt.” Danielle laughed, pulling away, wiping away the stray tears that rolled down Joey’s cheeks. Joey smiled weakly, silently thanking God that Danielle was here with her. “I think I’m going to go for a walk or something.” “You want some company?” “Nah, I think I just want to be alone for a bit, but thanks.” “No problem babe. How about I go and get Cassie from Taylor’s and take her for some ice cream or something?” “I think she’d like that. Thanks.” Danielle watched as Joey got up from the table, walked out the front door and down to the end of the dock, where she sat down and dropped her head into her hands. She could hear the footsteps approaching, and now she knew exactly what Pacey was talking about when he said that he could feel when she was near. Without looking back, Joey could feel in her heart and with everything that she had, that it was Pacey. Joey sucked in a breath, as she felt him sit down beside her on the dock, he eyes never wavering from the water. She knew he was here to talk to her, to tell her whether or not they had a future together. “This is kinda like déjà vu, don’t ya think?” He said getting settled next to her, following her gaze out over the creek. “That depends.” Joey knew exactly what he was referring to. Pacey was referring to when he came here, to this very spot over nine years ago to say goodbye to his best friend. “On?” “On whether or not you’re here to say goodbye like last time.” “Do you think I’m here to say goodbye Joey?” Pacey asked, looking at her, taking in her beauty. Turning her head slightly, she met his piercing blue eyes and she felt her heart skip a beat and her stomach flutter. She knew then what it felt like to truly love someone, what it meant to be so in love that you got butterflies, what it meant to want to spend the rest of your life with someone. For her, that someone was Pacey. “God, I hope not Pacey.” Joey answered, her eyes filling with tears. “I never want you to say goodbye to me and I never want to say goodbye to you.” “I just need to know if you meant it Jo.” “Meant what Pacey?” “Everything you said at the restaurant.” Pacey moved on the dock so that he was sitting facing her. Raising his hands to her face, he used the pads of his thumbs to brush away the tears that were falling. “I meant them with everything that I am Pacey.” She whispered. “I love you.” “I love you Jo.” He leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers, in a soft, gentle, loving kiss. Pulling away slightly he rested his forehead against hers. “I’m so sorry for everything I said Joey. I didn’t mean it, any of it.” “I know Pacey. I know.” She kissed his nose and giggled. “So, you love me?” “Yes, I do.” “And you want to be with me? And Cassie?” He smiled at her remembering another time, long ago, that they did this. Only this time there would be no talk of tears, no promises of letters to be written, no phone calls promised to be made. The only promises they were making now, were to love each other, openly, honestly, for as long as they lived. “I’ll try. I’ll talk to you soon, right?” “You bet.” “And you’ll call all the time?” “For sure.” “And you’ll write?” “Yep.” “And you’ll come back to visit me?” “You know I will. Anything else?” “Umm… Yeah. We’ll always be best friends, right?” “Of course we’ll always be best friends Jo. Who else would put up with us?” “Good point.” “I love you, Joey.” “I love you too.” “More than anything in this world.” “How do you feel about another one?” “I’d love it.” He answered, without fully understanding her question. “Good, because we don’t have long to wait.” “Wait…you mean…you’re…we’re…you’re pregnant?” He stammered. “Uh huh. You okay with that?” “Okay with that? Are you crazy woman? I’m more than okay with that.” He pulled her close to his body as he layed back on the dock, bringing Joey down with him. Brushing the hair away from her face, he kissed her with all the passion and love he had. “I love you so much and I couldn’t be happier. We’re going to be a family.” He said in amazement. “Yes we are.” “I love you, Jo.” “I love you Pace. You’re going to love me forever, right?” She asked, already knowing his answer. People always said that there were no guarantees in love, but Joey knew in her heart and soul that his love was guaranteed to last a lifetime. “And a day.” The End Edited by: Angel608J at: 10/15/03 7:56 am |

Re: Re: Aww, the end. Sniffle. Love. Romance. Babies. Every misunderstanding cleared up. No more evilness from Angel. I can go back and reread the bad bits now because the mushy stuff more than compensates for it at the end |
