Green vegetables of any kind can not be any other color because of the color restrictions built in to the name.

Re: the logic thread
We once had blue macaroni. My sister had put food coloring into the pan hehehe.

I put blue food coloring in my beer, and you get a wonderful evil scientist drink then. Green food coloring made it look like I had dipped my glass into a swamp, red made it look like blood.

Re: the logic thread
I went to my grandparents today, and as mentioned in the other forum my grandfather and I share the hobby of learning to speak and understand and associate languages. A nice thing to do, and I now have a book with the Norse mythology and the meaning of the runes. Nice, innit?

I believe that Tolkien had read the Norse mythology prior to writing anything. The language is also remarkably similar. I'm quite sure he didn't think of everything himself.

He definately studied languages... his elvish was based on a Finnish language.

I have a friend who is studying languages at UNC. He seems to thrive on it. Chinese is his favorite.

Me, I could make 10,000 a year more if I got the hang of Spanish. I tried to date a guy from Equidor in order to find a fun way of learning... Hay Chihuahua! Still not learning it!

Languages interest me only in the way of how things translate.

Re: the logic thread
Mart130.439625, once you speak about 3 languages in a specific language group (for instance, latin, french and half of english) you can shape any fourth language in that group (spanish, italian) using a 'mother' word made from the other languages.

for instance: use.
EN: use
FR: user
LA: uti

so, spanish must be usar, which it actually is too. I used that word without ever having heard it ofr the first time. So, translations become easier once you speak more languages, you can take a shortcut to how things translate.

Re: the logic thread
yup. I was having to make up a sentence in my first spanish class... had to use the word cross.... hmmm, I always cross my t's.. dont know the word for always....hmmm highschool latin to the resuce... semper! well spanish is siempre...but WTF.

Anyway...last night I was digging into some books on Lewis and Tolkein and fantasy/imagination... and this book said that Tolkein used his interest in Welch and how it developed from Gaelic... to develop his elvish languages. And those languages are actually so complete they could be spoken today. (if its anything like Star Trek fans... it probably is already...Klingon is spoken in some circles).

Well, Tolkein said that languages developed from myth, not vise versa. whatcha think....

Re: the logic thread
Very good!

If you watch the movies of LOTR, they had to write parts of the sript in elvish. It even has a correct pronunciation. Its amazing that a person could develop such a complex (at least in the way it sounds) language just for a book.

Na galla siloccan legala gal'amdaurun de'Norok.

I'm making my own language for a game of AD&D. I'm basing it on 17 existing languages and my imagination. It's not that big a deal, as long as you know what words you need and have enough understanding of grammar, syntaxis and consistency of languages.

Re: the logic thread
Yeah, I'll say it again, languages are fun. And all you have said about Tolkien is true, that he used Finnish as a basis for his elven laguages and all. I it is probably spoken by some, I can actually write a little! (grins) Not completely correct, but I have an alphabet with the most usefull word-signs.

I have to join in with Mart there, not bad making your own language! How long until it's fully developped?

Namárië melon nim, alo anor na ven.

mellon, not melon (but I think that's dwarvish?) means friend.
Cool, Silme!

I have no idea when it will be developed, probably hen I take the time to fully develop it. So far it's just sitting in a corner, doing nothing. I'll write more when I need more for my story.

Well, Niwi, you seem to have some of the most important parts of it down already… olutan ;)
In Norwegian that would be "ĝl".

Which rune alphabet do you have? The futhark one?

Think you can compete with my geekiness, notice links below :p

I'm sorry, now, I wrote it!
But I can tell you, anyhow,
