Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
"All right, birdbrain." Sapphire started. Uh, oh. Looks like she's preping Chatts for their meeting with the Mykari delegation. "You're no stranger to Mykari custom, so you behave yourself."

"Me?" Chatts replied in an innocent tone. "I'm always good."

"I mean it, Chatterbox. One screw up and I'll disassemble you, slowly."

"You got it, chica."

I wasn't too worried about CHatterbox insulting any of the delegates. Chatts mgiht run his mouth a bit too much, but he's no where near as insulting as Zeek. M'Tah still hasn't forgotten about how he had insulted her.

I don't know why Seska was making such a big fuss about. She knows I know how to behave in front of the Delegates. I mean, geez, does she think I'm some immature baffoon who's only goal in life is to cause trouble? Don't answer that. That's a rhetorical question. Anyway, the moment of truth arrived. Here come the Mykari Delegates!

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
Not many delegates today; just the royal family and some of the court. I recognized Avatar Carata and her two daughters, Ladies Wynta and Requali. Lady Wynta's the first-born, but royal traditions require that the heir to the throne possess at least one of the Divine Elements. Lady Wynta has the dual Elements of Wind and Ice. Lady Requali has the Heart Element and Avatar Carata has the Mind Element. Lady Requali looks just about fourteen...uhoh! Bad age to be in an important delegation! There was also Archmage Wek (it's official; the MATI are doomed), High Conjurer Hutar, Ambassador Xetrato (I defintely see a resemblence between her and Hotwing) and one of the monks from the homeworld. Hmm...I don't recognize that one. Maybe he was new. He had about a darker gold shade than the Ambassador and an oval white skull gem. I couldn't see his eyes due to the scar where they should be. A blind monk...yipes. I hope nothing goes wrong, especially with the Hav'Throth still after Sundance. I guess whatever the MATI are paying them is too much for them to give up. Then again, we haven't had any attacks for weeks, but I'm not holding my breath here.

(Hotwing)

So far, Keisha loved Bedlama. All of the exotic flora had her green eyes shining. I was glad she liked the place.

|Leo,| she started. |I read a lot about Bedlama and everything.|

|Oh?| I reply. |Like what? Besides the flowers?|

|Like how the ruler of this planet has the most spectacular garden ever!|

|Oh, yea. That.|

|I can just picture it in my mind. Lot of flowers, trees and grass and all kinds of stuff.| As she went on and on about imagining the Governor's inter-galatic famous garden, her skull gem began glowing. Uh oh...she may be using her Element without realizing it. It was common among Mykari children to lose control of their Elements if not supervised. Believe me, I know. I snapped her out of her regime.

|Yes, Keisha. It's as lovely as you picture it and much more.|

|That is sooo cool! Uh...Leo, what's that?| I turned around and there I saw was a whole bunch of green pointing into the sky! Keisha must've accidentally caused a super growth spurt somewhere...oh, no! Tell me it's not the Governor's garden!!! Nothing's happened to that since the time Chatts mistook his prized water roses for weeds!

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
l Did I do that? l she asked sheepishly.

l Yes, I believe you did, Va'Lenn. Looks like you got a little carried away. l

l The Governor's gardener will have his work cut out for him! l she chuckled, and I had to agree. As we walked, I aksed her about her time at Lady Detia's.

l It was nice. I even got to help Lady Detia out with a couple of her house plants. They weren't doing too well, so I gave her advice. Turns out she had them in the wrong type of soil. I fixed the problem and she said if she ever needs plant advice she'd be sure to call me! l

l That all sounds great, but I'm curious about your little admirer. l

l What admirer? l

l Don't tell me you didn't notice. l

l Lyore, what you need to do is stop worrying aoubt my admirers (if I indeed have any) and worry aobut your own! l

l And what's that supposed to mean? l

l The clock is ticking, brother! l she replied, and left it at that.

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
But I wasn't willing to let it go so easily. |What has M'Tah been telling you?| I asked.

|Nothing.|

|Yea right. I'm almost fourty for the love of the Goddess, and she still treats me like a child!|

|Funny, she said the same thing in her argument with Gu'M'Tah.|

|Gu'M'Tah? What does she have to do with it?|

|She's concerned that your time here is preventing you from finding a mate. She wanted you to come home and work in the military base with P'Tah, but M'Tah said you were just fine here.|

|Since when does Gu'M'Tah care that I find a mate or not? Last I checked, it's the female's surname that is carried on into a marriage.|

|She's sympathetic to Terran culture, a little. One way or another, she wants the Xetrato name to carry on before she passes.|

|Gu'M'Tah is over 150 years old, she still has a century left.|

|You know Gu'M'Tah; what she wants, she gets and when she wants it she wants it now.|

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
(SteelHeart)

After a whole month of setting it up it was finally complete. Will and I had finally finished our new holo-suite. It had all types of interactive programs including ones geared toward exercise and even relaxation. My twin brother and I thought the suite would help during time we couldn't get out of Hawk Haven for R&R. Will and I tried out a couple of the sports applications. I really enjoyed the one for skiing. It was just as exciting but a lot less dangerous. There are safety precautions to keep you from breaking any real bones on the virtual slopes. The holo-suite worked perfectly for Will and me. Now all we had to do is let the others have fun with it too.

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
I went to the break room to see if there was anyone there, but all I found was Leo. He seemed to be meditating; when did he get back anyway? It was a few minutes before he came out of his meditative state, all shaken.

"By the Goddess, what have I done?" he mumbled, then turned and noticed me. "Uh, Steelheart...I-I didn't see you there."

"I just came in." I answered. "Is everything all right, Hotwing?"

"Just peachy..."

"You're back early. Where's your sister?"

"Resting in my quarters. Um, Steelheart...I need to ask a personal favor."

"Sure, Hotwing. Anything."

"Pretendyou'remygirlfriend."

"What?!"

"I was just communing with my GuM'Tah--"

"Your what?"

"My Mykari grandmother. She was expressing her concern about me finding a mate and was demanding I come home to My'Ka so she can arrange a match for me. Well, I...I...might have told her that I was courting somebody from work."

"Me."

"You were the first person to pop into my mind, I swear it!"

"Leo, how could you say such a thing?!"

"I don't know! I just didn't want GuM'Tah to pair me up with some arrogant snob in the social upper crust."

"But why me?"

"Emily, the Mykari society is very snobbish. Believe me, I know. They judge a lot on prestige and social ranking."

"And your grandmother would approve of me?"

"To a Mykari, there are five levels of social prestige; the aristocrats, the nobility, the public servants, the priesthood and the Avatar. The Xetrato line has been public servants to the Avatar since the Carata dynasty first emerged. Therefore, we are third up the social ladder and are very respected."

"Okay, I still don't see why I would be approved by your grandmother. I don't come from a rich family or a family of public servants or anything!"

"If there's one thing a Mykari cares more about than social status, it's gentry. A Mykari family--any Mykari family--can achieve a social edge by mating with those with Divine Elements."

"Divine Elements? What are those?"

"A group of Elements that are very rare. I told my grandmother you were an empath, which places you among those with the Heart Element, one of the Divine Elements."

"She doesn't care if I'm human?"

"If she cared about race, I wouldn't be here."

"Good point, but won't she tell if you're lying?"

"I doubt she'll care, but we'll worry about it when that time comes. Please, Emily. I don't want to go back to My'Ka!"

"But don't they have military in My'Ka?"

"I came to Earth to train because I wanted to be judged by my skills, not my social background. Please, please pose as my girlfriend for a few days...GuM'Tah is planning to come over to see you and it'll just be until she leaves."

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
I looked at Hotwing as if he has lost his marbles. I didn't see myself as being anyone's girlfriend at the time. There was a time when I did have a little thing for Jonathan, but that was a long time ago. A very long time ago. I was about to say 'no' until I saw the look of desparation in his eyes. I was even picking up on it with my empathinc abilitites. Wow, he must really need me to do this.

"All right, Hotwing. I'll agree to thin under one condition. You're gonna take me out on a date and I get to choose the activity."

"What kind of activity."

"Rock climbing."

"Lady, you got yourself a deal. When do we start?"

"As soon as possible." I decided to lead him to the new holo-suite to get started. "Just one thing; you have done rock climbing before, haven't you?"

"The only sports I ever did back home were wrestling and wyvern riding."

"Wyvern riding?"

"Yea. As in the wiry dragons...oh crap!"

"What?"

"Where's SandPheonix?"

"Out on patrol. Why?"

"Keep him out on patrol and away from Mykari eyes, especially GuM'Tah's eyes."

"Why is that? Do Mykari have something against Martians?"

"Let's just say our races don't get along well."

"Seska said the same thing before the delegation got here; she also said that it could jepordize any treaties if the Avatar saw him."

"Conflict of cultures; prudent matriarch vs. double standard patriarch. There's tension in between, but not enough to start a war."

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
(Hotwing)

Emily and I both had the evening off the next day so there was no problem with making a date. It was pretty easy for me to prepare. I just put on my running suit and athletic shoes and I was all set. Even so I found myslef feeling a little nervous. I was making sure my breath was minty fresh and making sure my clothes were straight. i do that normally but never for 20 minutes in fornt of a mirror. I wondered why I would be so nervous around someone I had been around for years and considered a good freind? Perhaps it was because I would be in a situation different from what I was used to with Emily. We've been on the battle field together, worked on projects together, even hung out in the rec room together. But that was as friends and coworkers. This date would be different from that. I was really looking forward to this, and yet I was extrememly nervous.

Re: Silver Lovebirds: That Old Black Magic
|Lyore, are you okay?| my sister asked me. She had to stay with me tonight, didn't she?!

|I'm fine, little sis. I'm just nervous...|

|About your date?|

|It's not a date. It's just a social thing between two friends.|

|Sure...just don't forget you're babysitting tonight.|

|I haven't forgotten, and yes I'll tell SteelHeart. About you.|

|Don't you mean Emily?|

|Come on.| We hurried to the holosuite, where we met Emily. "Hope you don't mind the squirt tagging along." I explained. "The delegation's going into overtime so to speak and M'Tah insists it's no place for a child."

"Fair enough." Em replied. "Nice to meet you, Keisha."

"Likewise, Miss Emily." Keisha answered. "I believe my family will greatly approve of you."

"Leo tells me you like rock climbing."

"Yea, but does it have to be artificial? I kinda prefer the real deal."

"Va'Lenn, you're too young to go rock climbing, it's dusk and I won't have you causing an avalanche like last time!" I said.

"No fair! I wasn't in control of my powers last time!"

"Last time?" Em asked.

"Not long after her Element was declared," I explained. "Keisha decided to test them out on the nearest mountain, which happened to be on our grandmother's estate. Obviously, the disturbance was great enough to cause an avalanche."

"Good news is that nobody got hurt." Keisha continued, smirking.

"Only because we were outside in the courtyard at the time. Bad news was that Gu'M'Tah's manor wasn't so fortunate. The boulders from the avalanche all but tore it apart!"

"Yea...well I got in trouble for that one!"

"You most certainly did."

"Fine! So I nearly demolish Gu'M'Tah's manor with an avalanche! Big deal!" She then turned to Emily. "You think my Element manifestation was bad, you should've seen Lyore's!"

"You weren't even born at that time!"

"Papa told me. You wanted to show off your Element so you decided to try juggling fireballs. Well, he couldn't control his Element at the time and he's a lousy juggler so guess what happened to the fireballs?"

"Uh..." Emily began. "They nearly burn the house down?"

"Way worse than that! They landed on Mistress Jiu's head and burned her hair off! Gu'M'Tah was SO embarassed! She used her Water Element to douse the flames, but Mistress Jiu was as bald as a cue ball and more wet than a drowned rat!"

"Keisha, that is enough." I growled.

"Who's this Mistress Jiu?" Emily asked, struggling not to laugh.

"Riare Jiu, a friend of my grandmother's. She's a baroness who ran a small fiefdom on the Kiwa Moon Colony. I now hear her granddaughter, Erana, runs it."

"Doesn't Erana have a huge crush on you?" Keisha asked.

"She had an infatuation about me."

"Ah...but don't worry, Emily; Erana only has a Basic Element. Fire, like Lyore. You have a Divine Element, Heart like Lady Requali, and Lyore could never see Erana as more than a social accquaintance."
