Harry heard himself cast the final curse, and in his heart he knew it would work. He knew what it would do, and that this was the end, but he did not know how. He simply did.
And just as he had listened to his voice, quiet and wavering amidst the battle cries of those around them, he saw Voldemort stagger back, fall on one knee, and collapse. It was all so unreal; he had dreamed of this day, had dreamed of the triumph he would feel at the sight of his enemy, his punisher, fall for the very last time, just as once, an eternity ago, Voldemort had dreamt of it as well. One last cough from the creature, now on his back, and a spurt of red blood as it formed a thin trickle down his white chin, and he was gone.
And it was then that Harry's triumph ended, for the weight he had expected would dissolve at the other's death was still there, stronger, more vivid, then ever. He slowly took those small, short, infinite steps towards the crumpled form, and the next thing he knew, his hands, now bathed in blood, had formed painful fists in the dark, rich robes, and his throat no longer served to push down sobs he had covered years and years ago. And there, in the center of the greatest war in ages, did Harry fall with his fallen enemy and cry. Cry for all those he had lost, for all those sacrifices he had been forced to make, when all he had wanted was someone to love. He cried, painfully, sickenly, for the beast in his arms, its face now devoid of hate and ice, face now white and slack and ugly. He cried for a man that could have been, and a boy that had been lost.
Harry let go of the robes, and looking up at the sky, was not surprised that it was red, burning, bleeding, like the last sunset before the end. He lay down, face wet with tears and blood, and closed his eyes.
I felt the need to review this piece in particular not because it is your best, but because it is so different than your 'usual'. It is so much grittier and organic. You are right, it is hard to draw old Voldy without making it look comical, but I think you really pulled it off.
muchas gracias
Thanks Mag. Yeah, it really is different from most of my works, but well, it's really hard to keep something clean and ''powerful''. I hope to finish it sometime, but for not, it shall stay as it is.
And that is NOT a 'fro! -mock glares- Humidity and sweat, that's all.
