Netbook of Books
I've taken possession of the Netbook of Books project. It was a good idea never fully realised and so I'm expanding on the original and reformatting it.
I can do this because the editor is gone, no-one was ever credited as being the original author and no copyright assertions were ever made. I can do that, right Roger? Well, I'm doing it anyway.
If anyone has any interesting fantasy book titles or anything approriate for inclusion in the Netbook of Books that they would like included then post here. Everyone gets a credit this time round
The finished version will be availble for download on the website. If you would like to have a look at the original then e-mail me and I'll send you a copy.
these are just books that might be found by characters right?

Re: Netbook of Books
I like those, most of them are going in. I've got the format and mechanics in place, so I'm starting to categorise and describe the books now. It actually looks disturbingly professional for something I've cobbled together!

Re: Netbook of Books
Okay most of those are in. Does anybody else have any other suggestions? The ten themes are:
I know the first and last ones are a bit screwy, but they all had to go somewhere. I want to have a hundred books in each section and so far I've got about a hundred books done.
The format -- though I only need titles -- is:
BOOK NAME (format) author, language unless common. Description.
For Example:
Quizlit’s Occult (printed book) edited by Quizlit the Arcanist from previously existing notes. Generally supplied in two volumes, a single copy weighs 30 pounds. Using this book takes 1d4+1 days of continuous effort (at least 8 hours a day) but allows the wearer to identify any spell they have witnessed with 99% accuracy. Quizlit’s Occult is updated frequently, so few spells are excluded.
The Bard’s Compendium: 2008 Really Racist Songs (handwritten book) by Bryan the Oft-Stoned, written variously in common, elvish, dwarven, goblin and gnomish. A bard, or any character with a musical proficiency, can perform one of these songs resulting in instant enmity with all members of the race sung about who hear (-4 on the reaction table). However, races which are ill-disposed towards the race sung about (such as dwarves to elves) have a much improved reaction to the performer (+2 on the reaction table). Subsequent songs have no further positive effect, but negative effects are similar and cumulative.
The Book of Stone (stone tablets) by Archmason Dunbar Pickaxe, written in dwarven. These ten tablets, each weighing about 10 pounds, comprise the best account of the correct use of stone ever produced. Stone buildings or other constructions built according to the advice given here receive a +1 save bonus against all attack forms.

History books (sort of)"The Romantic Exploits of King Burontheir III", compiled by Eristen Songshadow. Possession of this book is outlawed and punishable by exile. There are many copies of this book floating around, most of them written in Common. A full 20% of surviving copies is written in high elven, and 5% of them can be, strangely, found written in Drow. To date, the royal Elven family denies the contents of this book and considers them outright slander. Outside of elven lands, however, this book makes exceedingly good romance entertainment.
" Dinosaurs: Fact or Myth?" A treatise written by Jurassicus the Sage. Only a handful of copies actually exist. Usually found bound in the hide of a subterranean lizard. Rumour has it that one of these books is bound in the scaly hide of some unidentified beast, though few have actually laid eyes on it. Referral to this book gives the reader +3 to all Animal Lore checks with reference to Dinosaurs.
"Bones of Yesterday - the stories of ten of the world's greatest war martyrs" by Lance Lamselton, printed by Calvary Press. Despite the rather depressing title, this is an eulogy to the fallen heroes of war, from different ages, detailing their exploits and the battles in which they met their end. A war-priest who reads a tale from this book and then casts the spell Enthrall will cause all Warrior-based listeners to automatically fail their first saving throw against the spell effect.
"101 Really Nasty Pranks" handbook written by
Pane Indiass. Exactly 101 copies of this book can be found. Each is bound in a variety of materials, and each one boasts a prank that can be found in the book. For instance, one has a leather cover that has been treated with itch powder. Another one has razor-sharp pages that inflict wounds when the reader tries to turn the pages without protection. One of them even boasts a spring-loaded iron fist that activates when the book is opened.

Re: History books (sort of)"Elfsunder: A tale of the elven race" - it is unclear as to the origins of the author. It is a book detailing the tale of how the elven subraces were derived from the original strain of elves. However, there are at least three different versions of the book, each with a slightly different bias towards a particular subrace - drow, moon elf and wood elf. Each version of this book seems to differ slightly from each other, painting their own subrace in a glowing light and insisting that the particular subrace is the first and purest of all the subraces.
"Dragon's Rest" written by Thorbald Two-teeth. This book, bound in the hide of a yeti and studded at the edges with the teeth of winter wolves, details the life story of the great white dragon Ferrogruzzasharakk. The tales span many centuries and are an insightful treatise on the history of the icelands.
"The World Before Iron" - written by Gronius Shatterstone. This is a collection of brittle, carefully cured sheets of deerhide with dwarven runes carved into them. It details a time before the discovery of iron, and the way of life for dwarvenkind, and ends with the leaps and bounds in sophistication that the discovery of iron has led the race to realize. Upon a successful Ancient History check and an Appraisal check, the character will realize that this book is easily worth 200,000 gold pieces, and 1.5 times that to a dwarf.

More history (the others didn't count)
"The Pioneers of the sands" - written by Charlina Wesslewest. Written in a neat cursive hand, this collection of papyrus sheets bound in petrified tree bark is the original form of the book that the author wrote while she took up residence as an honoured guest in one of the many nomadic tribes in the desert. Many copies of this book has been printed in paper and bound in sanded lacquered wood. It details the hard life of the ancestors of the desert people and their way of life, and how they gradually developed their art of fighting, ambush, hunting, foraging and bowmanship to become the semi-civilized people they are today. This book is also a good verifirable source of their customs and traditions.
"Evolution of Dragons" - by Harnet Hansworth. Printed in high-quality paper in ink derived from rare chemicals, the eldritch appearance of this book cannot hide the fact that it contains very little genuine insight. The writing is bad, and the theories worse. It is little more than the empty-headed ramblings of a well-to-do literate fool who considers himself an authority on the subject of dragons and their origins. Unless one can somehow believe that dragons were evolved from orb-weaving spiders, this book holds very little value in terms of knowledge.
"Paper" - written by Vapyrius Cassicus. This book is thin (less than a hundred pages) and very richly illustrated. It is a historical account of how paper came to be discovered and used as scribing material, from its origins as clay tablets and tree bark, to papyrus and parchment, to the form it currently holds today.
"Knocking on Death's Door" - written by Janith Moondancer. A large grey tome of crackling yellowed pages and gold edging. The writing within is in a feminine hand and is faintly smudged in some places. The content detail the life and upbringing and exploits of the notorious ranger rebel Galadas Wildwood, who led the wood elves against the many incursions of the neighbouring human populations. It also details the many near-death escapades of the elven hero and how he trumphed over danger several times to become the legend he is today.
A couple more books"Monster Manual" Published by TSR. Common. This book contains information compiled about various creatures from previous adventurers. Allows the character to read the information in whatever version of the Monster Manual is found. No guarantee what is read holds true in their world.
"The True Story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" Ritz family publishing. Dwarven.

Thanks & Sorry
Thanks for your input Rog, sorry I haven't responded before now but I've been busy and haven't had time to work on the Netbook. I'll get those in today.
It's looking good, but I shouldn't expect to see a finished version until February at the earliest.
