Re: Hey
well...the results aren't good for me--I don't know my exact placing yet but i'm going to aim somewhere 8-10th out of 16 girls. This show had close to 100 girls competing and the judges rewarded "big and lean" aka--bodybuilding physiques again. I went in with a softer figure physique--just like in the US but it totally backfired..but thats ok--there is absolutely nothing i can or could've done about it. I'm at my max lean mass and aren't getting "bigger" just to win a show--i will continue to improve and take another route competing--i'm not done yet!
There is a alot to write about but right now i just need to go and relax and get my brain and emotions back intact...
Thank you everyone for all your support and i'll have photos up on my journal tomorrow
:)
LA, I'm very happy for you
That's too bad they forgot to distinguish the bodybuilder type from the figure type, that seems to be the biggest complaint here in Canada and it surely discourages plenty
You have been true to yourself and stuck to your dreams and goals and THAT is something to be proud of. You look amazing and are an incredible woman and role model. And this experience hasn't put a damper on your drive obviously!
Looking forward to hearing more about your trip and seeing the pics.
Thanks everyone your support means a lot to me right now!! I have been receiving incredible emails from amazing people with awesome words of support!! I didn't know i was that popular..lol....
Well, i think i placed closer to 10th place in this show...lol...it just amazes me that the judging in Alberta is sooo behind the rest of the country and world--...but thats ok--i've heard things are going to be changing fairly quickly.
Still not too sure what my next step is (i'm still just relaxing a bit) but i'm posting lots of pics on my journal for everyone from the Nationals. my journal Make sure you check it and i love reading any comments--it motivates me to keep taking pics!!
While you were away people in the gym were coming up to me and commenting on the results. Everyone knows you were robbed! Whether they tell you or not you've got a lot of people in your corner.
Re: looking
Thanks Dave Thats nice to hear! Everyone at the gym has been soo supportive!
I should've done more homework since this show was in another province--the shows here in Ontario reward softer, smaller girls and that was the impression i was under for this year at the Nationals...but oooops---I was wrong lol...My conditioning wasn't as tight as I would have liked it to be, but thats ok--everything is a learning process and it was my first Nationals in Alberta--and i was honoured just to be on that stage
Re: looking
Hi LA You looked fantastic and I loved your bikini WOW!!!! Phew...I have checked out couple of sites for the pics...I think this article and photos says it all www.ftvideo.com/genex/res...anfit.htm.
I agree with what Genex had to say ...(Sara Michael has much more pleasing physique then the top girls) People tell me I am lean and muscular...but if I had to stand next to those 5 girls in top photo...well I would honestly look like fat anorexic girl I am tiny compare to them...I have never even been this big and ripped for my BB Nationals LOL!!!
LA my heart goes out for you chickie But as you said yourself..you came in softer then your previous shows...I think if you came in your (Rick Oliver-video/shoot) dry and tight look you would be right up there even with less size...well only my opinion
Pia Marlen said that Amateur Europian figure girls are big and hard compare to USA Pro's..and was asked to come smaler and not so muscular if she wants to place high. If she wanted to get Pro card in her country she had to come big ,hard and muscular...now that she is in USA she will just soften up to please USA figure judges...seems like it is the same in Canada..you have to come very hard and ripped to get Pro card and then you can soften it up later...
Anyway I just wanted to say that you still look absolutely divine!!! All the best for the future...
Re: looking
I'm happy to see you're taking the positive out of this situation LA! Congrats on being as strong as you are on not letting poor judging get the best of you. Next one is yours! Keep up the great work, we're all so proud of you! I mean, not everyone gets to say they are part of the top women in CANADA!!! Way to go LA!!!!!!
Getting to the Nationals in your first year is a phenomenal accomplishement. The experience of competing at that level has already prvoen invaluable regardless of the judge's placing.
I am excited for you and eager to watch how you channel your fitness goals into a venue that suits who you are.
Re: looking
I'm soo excited to prepare and focus on this show! Thanks everyone for all your support and each show is truly a learning process! You are soo right Shel--i think i'm more eagar for this show than the Canadians to show my physique in a way that i feel it looks the best!
Interesting
I just though this one says it all about what is happening in Canadian Judging
On figure competitors and bodybuilders
Is it just me, or was the recent CBBF Canadian Figure Championships more of a bodybuilding competition than a figure competition?
Rachel
It's not just you – many feel that way, including some of the Canadian professional competitors who have spoken up about the look the judges at the national level in Canada are rewarding. However, it seems to be falling on deaf ears.
The truth of the matter is that the look that's rewarded at the CBBF Canadian Figure Championships is clearly out of sync with most of the other provinces in Canada, as well as what's happening in the United States and in the IFBB's professional competitions. As a matter of fact, they're probably not in line with most of the world. If you need proof, in the August 2006 issue of Oxygen there was a critique of professional Canadian competitor Debbie Leung that said, "Canadian amateur judges prefer a lot of muscle on their athletes and less attention to detail, so when those athletes compete in the IFBB, they have to streamline all that muscle and master the small details that make a pro figure competitor stand out in a lineup." In fact, I spoke Debbie Leung recently and she's one of the pros trying to relay this message to the CBBF – but they don't appear to be getting it at all.
The athletes aren't to blame here and it's not to take away from anyone who won. Strangely, though, most, if not all, the athletes seem to know that the look required at the Canadians is clearly out of step with everyone else, but they're forced into a situation to appease the judges at this one show. What happens, then, is that many will develop the required look to compete successfully at the national level in Canada – which is, in fact, basically that of a bodybuilder instead of a figure competitor – and then change drastically to compete elsewhere. It's a problem – a real problem – and the CBBF better address it soon.
What I see happening now is that many competitors in Canada who sport the proper look for figure are either quitting competing at the CBBF national level and are going to other organizations to compete, or they are competing in the IFBB North Americans, which is open to Canadian and American competitors, and is where the judging standards reward those with a figure look, and not those with the look of a bodybuilder. In fact, the last two competitors to win the IFBB North Americans were Canadians Jane Award and Nina Luchka – both competed at the CBBF Canadian Figure Championships and failed to attain pro status, yet went to the North Americans and swept the competition there. Strange, isn't it?...Doug Schneider
