Races of Soulve
Peoples of Soulve
__________
Elves
Woodland Elves- Taur'edhel
Generally thought as the most beautiful of all elven races, the Taur'edhel are most commonly found with long, often wavy or curly hair in varying shades of brown. Their eyes are usually earth-coloured, green or brown. Their skin is quite and pale, though their cheeks are often rosy.
The Taur'edhel delight in poetry and song, though they also make deadly and silent archers. They are welcoming, and generally kind-hearted, though guarded and often fiercely protective of their homes. A strong weakness of the woodland elves is their shy nature. More often than not they keep themselves to themselves and prefer not to mix with others.
Facts about the Taur'edhel
They mainly dwell in Birtiath
Their king and queen is Lord Arréion and Lady Avardiel
They do not often leave their woods
They do not like the dwarves
There are many Wood elves.
Sea Elves- Aear'edhel
The sea elves are just as beautiful as their woodland cousins, yet they have a lighter look to them. Their skin is pearly white, almost silver while their eyes keep in shades of blue and green. Their hair is usually long and white, sometimes the sea elves are found with a pale golden hair to show their close kinship with the Taen’edhel. They are the smallest of the elvish kindred, the tallest sea elf being near six foot. This is probably because they have more fairy blood in them rather than the other elves (save for the fuin’edhel). This makes them carefree in a way, and often too playful.
Facts about the Aear’edhel
They dwell in Larmennor
Their queen is Lady Nithilana
They are often traders
They are close friends with the mortals of Leoch
There are many Sea-elves
Mountain Elves- Taen'edhel
The mountain elves are the oldest of the elves therefore they are considered the wisest. Their skin is the darkest of the elves, being a light tan color. Their hair though, is a fair gold or a polished copper. They are tall beings and very strong, for they are craftsmen and hunters. They were once mingled with the Fuin’edhel, yet they quarreled constantly and eventually the Fuin’edhel departed, thus their friendship was little. The mountain elves find their friendship with the dwarves, for they delight in the same work as Taen’edhel do. They are somber creatures and some of them are not as kind as their kinsmen.
Facts about the Taen’edhel
Most dwell in Sethas the Silver Caves
Some of the craftsmen dwell in the dwarven city of Morost
Their king is Lord Ignilkan
They do not like mortals or the Fuin’edhel
There are not many mountian elves
Night Elves- Fuin'edhel
The night elves are mysterious people. They were once close in kinship with the mountains elves yet broke away harshly from the Taen’edhel due to a quarrel never known by the mortals of Soulve. When they reached the woods of Dudolin they befriended the fairies and they are the only creatures that can hear their whisper. These elves are tall and dark-haired, and they never leave their precious woods.
Facts about the Fuin’edhel
They only dwell in Durdolin
Their king and queen are Lord Pellithon and Lady Luineth
They do not speak with mortals, dwarves, or elves
They dislike the elves of the mountain
Humans
Of Jartith
Quite fitting to their glorious surroundings, the men and women of Jartith are often found to have long, golden hair that trails down their backs. Their eyes, unusually for human kind, are grey or silver in colour. The people of Jartith are renowned for their knowledge of all things literary, and it is a well known fact that Jartith holds the largest library and collection of volumes in all of Soulve. This causes many races to visit the great city and it's spire of gold, in search of the wealth of knowledge that they seek... though due to their general dislike of elves, they are only let in out of pure courtesy.
Of Leoch
Due to their close proximity to the sea, and to the elven kingdom of Larmennor, the people of Leoch are very similar in appearance to their Aear'edhel neighbours. Their eyes tend to reflect the colours of the sea, both green and shimmering blue. Their skin is also just as pale and pearly, though their hair takes on a more golden hue. Being a seaside city, the Leochians are famed for their deadly navy, and great- some have said indestructible- ships of war. Like the elven kind, their weapons of choice are often the bow and arrow... however their closeness with such creatures has caused something of a rift between them and the human world.
Of Meliecho
The people of Meliecho are simple, country loving folk, who love nothing more than reaping from the land. They are rather shorter than most other humans, and their hair is usually dark- black or brown- and hangs in curls or waves. Their eyes are often found to be large and warm... hues of green ranging to deep brown are common. Though their clothing is simple, the people of Meliecho are noble and strong of heart... not to mention they grow good vegetables.
Of Helorath
The followers of Helorath are strong in stature and wise in war. Like their cousins in the North, the people of Helorath have light colored hair. Yet a color more common amongst their people nowadays is a bright copper. In many ages past they were once a part of the great kingdom of Jartith. But due to the feud between the ruler Helorath and Kind Medafin Helorath and his people departed the golden city and became rebels in the wild. Their homes are simple country lands, they raise horses and harvest their own crops. Yet often they deal with the happenings of the Dark Folk, for the Tower of Onduron lies not far from their home.
Dwarves
Ground/Cave Dwarves- Talaf'naug
Small and silent beings that mine in tunnels under mountains and land. They are much smaller than the dwarves above ground and their beards much darker. Brown or black is common amongst their people. They mine many different jewels and metals in their areas but it is rare for them to go above to sell their items. However, they often welcome travelers of different races into their lands for their hoards are mighty and great.
Mountain Dwarves- Taen'naug
Unlike their brothers in the tunnels the Taen’naug are much taller but not much fairer. Their height is near five foot and their beards falls to their knees. Beards are lighter in colors, usually gray and sometimes an unpolished gold color. They are proud people that mine deep within their mountains for jewels to sell and trade. Often do they travel from their homes to cities such as Jartith and Larmennor, for they are popular amongst the richer folk. The dwarves are in close friendship with the Mountain Elves, yet their leader’s true loyalty lies with the Dark Folk of the Tower.
Creatures of Evil
Goblins
A race of large quantity and malicious nature. Goblins range form the size of a gnome to the height of a Mountain Dwarf. They have dark rotten skin with a smell as awful as their appearance. An almost intelligent species, goblins are able to speak. Either in their own language of growls and grunts to common tongue of Soulve. Almost all goblins are evil, and they were the first to be made in the black pit in the darker places of the world. Large goblins are common warriors. Swordsmen and archers for the Dark Folk. Sturdy and strong yet slow. Smaller goblins are found as assassins. Quick and stealthy they are often found doing dark deeds.
Gnomes
Gnomes are of close kinship with dwarves. Yet in the past when the three dwarf kindreds were separated it was the beings called Gnomes that were captured and tortured by the Dark Folk. Ranging between the small size of the Cave Dwarves and the larger stature of the Mountain Dwarves Gnomes could almost easily be fooled with their fair dwelling cousins. Gnomes have small heads and strong bodies. Their faces are pale and their eyes, usually bright in color, seem to bulge out of their heads. They seem weak in psychical combat but their main advantage is their high magical powers. Some more powerful Gnomes can easily become invisible, making some excellent spies with the Dark Folk.
Other Races
Vampires
Vampires were once human or elves. They are the effect of drinking the blood of another immortal vampire. These creatures only hunt in the night and only appear in the night. Though they are quite able to walk during the day they are much more noticeable for their skin is deathly white and their eyes incredibly hollow when in the sunlight. There are many powers to a vampire, but those powers are acquired by aging. Fledgling vampires and even Ancient Vampires are able to make another being into a Vampire. As the vampire becomes older they learn the ability of flight and telepathy, though these come with powerful vampires. Vampires are silent and dangerous and while they are creatures of darkness not all of them are under the service of the Dark Folk.
Wolves
Werewolves are human and yet animal. They were once humans or elves but do to an encounter with another of their kind they became what they are. Upon full moons do these people take the form of a giant wolf prowling the night. While some werewolves let the beast take control others keep their human nature and live in solitude.
Wolves an intelligent species of dog that live and hunt in packs. Some wolves are simple creatures of the night, hardly seen by the folk of Soulve. Yet others are a more fierce and dangerous breed that serve under the Black Folk. Dark and terrible creatures with a lust of blood.
Dragons
An incredibly intelligent race but very few in number. Dragons are said to be the first to emerge from the black pit and if one were to cross path with a dragon of the pit one would never survive. It is said that some dragons cast bewitchments upon their lairs while others make themselves at home in lands of treasure.
The only dragon to be seen by humans is the Nar’Rung or the Fire Dragon. Large scaly beasts with four legs and two large bat-like wings, they twice the size of elves yet not the largest of their species. These are tricky and clever dragons confusing and luring their victims rather then the normal hunting. The Nar’Rung are said to breathe fire for they live in particularly warm places. Their scales are thick and strong and look the color of freshly drawn blood.
The Nen’Rung are breeds commonly found in the deep waters of the Glittering Sea. They have a snake-like appearance, with no legs or arms or wings. They catch sailors and merfolk unaware out at sea. They are wise yet merciless beings. The council from the Nen’Rung is more valuable then the great pearls of the sea.
The Fire and Ice Drakes are the smallest of their kind. They have no arms and no wings, yet two strong legs. The Fire Drake is a mischievous creature harmless, but horrible with giving directions as they often lead travelers on a more dangerous path. A small amount of fire is in their bodies but they are capable of horrible burns. Ice Drakes are found in any region, yet they are easy to spot for unlike their black scaled brothers they are a glimmering white. Cold to the touch yet friendly in the heart Ice Drakes are considered the less dangerous of Dragons.
Fairies
Fairies look and age like elves. Yet their height is incredibly different. They are small beings with immense magical powers in their specific element. Some can fit in the palm of your hand while others are the length of an arm. Fairies are born certain colors making them certain elements.
Fire Fairies are a deep red with crimson wings. They are mischievous and wild fairies that are strong in dealing with fire. They often are found in chimneys, forges, and some of the more dangerous Fairies can be found in the lava pits of the Darker Regions. These Fairies are of the smaller breed.
Water Fairies are a light blue with silver eyes and wings. Very peaceful creatures and are often found near streams, lakes, or dwelling deep with the Merpeople. These too are small and very fair when one is looking closely. They are wise beings and a favorite amongst the elves of Durdolin.
Light Fairies are the only large fairies. With silver skin and pearly hair and crystal wings they are considered the most beautiful. There are few of them as they are born when the dawn’s first light touches the clear shards of a new and pure diamond. Curious and intelligent creatures that can only be found in the morning on high mountain tops or deep in serene forests. They’re considered good luck as some Light Fairies pick a certain creature that interests them and secretly follows them, whispering council in their dreams and keeping secret company when one feels alone.
Dark Fairies are fell creatures. With a desire to only cause trouble meeting at Dark Fairy is an ill event. Dark fairies have darker toned skin, gray or a deep violet. Their eyes, however, are very bright. When one is lost in the dark all that is seen are two luminous glows. Sometimes a piercing red or an uncomfortable green. With scarlet wings they seem to be the fastest of their race and they use this to lure wanderers into the dangerous wild. Some of these Fairies are found to be in the service of the Dark Folk as spies.
Merpeople
A race of water dwellers that usually keep to their own kind. Merpeople are mysterious and secretive beings that only surface from the water they hid in to tell secrets to the lucky passerby.
Reef Merpeople dwell close to shore in the Glittering Seas. Fond of the songs of elves and interested by the happenings of humans. They are close allies with those of Larmennor and the men of Leoch. Beautiful in appearance and sweet in voice. Their fins are commonly a deep blue, their flesh a glittering silver and their long hair dark with seaweed or shells tangled in their tresses. Truly beautiful yet sometimes not all that serious they are the only Merpeople that communicate with the people of Soulve.
Deep Merpeople are rarely ever seen by anyone. For their homes are deep in the sea where the water turns black and silent. Their skin is a pearly white or a light gray, their eyes are dark as are their fins. Swift swimmers and excellent in divination. The Deep Merpeople usually have the sight and though they know many of the events of the world above they know it is not their place to mettle.
River Folk dwell in fresh water areas. They are beings that rely on fresh water, yet they are shaped as the average human. Lithe and swift and capable to wander the surface. They also have the same physical features as humans. But it is extremely rare for River Folk to be far from their rivers or lakes as they do not enjoy the contact between other races. River Folk are gentle beings, they do not often speak but when one wanders the woods alone they sometimes can hear their bright and clear songs.
Spirits
Watchers is the name often associated with the spirits that reside around Celeb-Til. Though their personalities vary, their purpose is the same- to aid those who seek their path by the arrows of the Silver point. Travelers would do well to beware, as they only speak in riddles and ancient tongues... and will only let you pass if you present them with the right answer. They can take any form, but usually choose a mystical white vapor in which to present themselves.
Wanderers are spirits of a dangerous and lonely kind. A spirit unseen save to those trained to see them they are everywhere yet no where. They were once rejected by the light of Celeb-Til and now they are amongst the living. Humans have called them Demons while the elves refer to them as the Lonely for they inhabit the bodies of those who dare not go on. Since the Wanderers are so strong a spirit it is easy to take possession another body. But because of this strength the body lasts but a day. However, it takes only the most lonesome and discontent Wanderer to do such an act. Most simply dwell amongst people whispering in the livings ear, sometimes for great deeds, while others are ill.
