Hewsters Help Sticky -Please read before posting.
Last updated 21st May 2003
Hi,
I thought I'd put this sticky up, so I don't have to write this every time, hehe..
I'll try and keep this sticky updated with any other possible
issues as and when they arise...
Topics are:
1) Cannot get the mod to run
2) 1.12 installation problems
3) 1.14 patch installation problems
4) 'Invalid CD key' error
5) 'Run time error 53 File not found'
===============================================
1) HELP! I Cannot get the mod to run (various odd errors)................
Are you using a Mac ?
If so, were sorry , no Mac support at the moment.
if not, you may have accidentally installed the mod
incorrectly
Windows users:
try uninstalling and re-installing, making SURE you browse
for your original RTCW folder when asked in the setup.
When installed correctly, you will have a file called WildWest.exe (cowboy head)
in your RTCW folder, the same place as the Wolfmp.exe.
Failing this you may need to uninstall the mod, and wolf, and then
once uninstalled, delete the remaining RTCW folder, and re-install
Wolf again, making sure you also install the official 1.41 patch
before installing The WildWest.
=================================================
2) HELP! I have Win98/98se and am having problems installing the 1.12 core files....
The WildWest 1.12 installer contains the MSI2.0 (Microsoft Windows Installer)
update for Windows installer.
Anyone with win98/98se may not have this updated Windows
file on their system.
There seems to be a problem with this MS installer update
You can try downloading the separate installer update directly from
Microsoft
=====================================================
3) HELP ! Install problems with 1.14a & 1.14b updates....
Some players are reporting errors when trying to update WildWest with these
patches, errors like "An error occurred during the move data process: - 113"
Solution: manually extract the setup files from the patch.exe (you will need WinZip
or other zip archiving program installed first)....
Right click on the patch.exe, and select extract, then run the Setup.exe that will
be extracted.. installation should then go smoothly
4) HELP! I keep getting 'Invalid CD key' error.....
Option 1 (from a clean install of RtCW) install RtCW & Patch
to 1.41, run wolf & enter your CD key.
Run Wolf and join a standard wolf server play for a few
minutes (if you can't join a Wolf game, it means you have
a problem with your RtCW install rather than a WW one)
Exit wolf, and find the "rtcwkey" file in your "main" folder
which is in your "RtCW" folder.
Right click this file, and select "read only". Start WildWest,
and DO NOT enter your CD key from within ANY mods.
You should now be able to join WW servers without any
problem
Option 2 (wolf is already installed)
Find your "rtcwkey" file in your "main" folder and delete it, if
you also have one in your WW folder, delete that too.
Now start wolf, & enter your CD key when asked (NOT from
within WW).
You should now be able to join WW servers without any
problem
To sum up, you should not have a "rtcwkey" file in any mod
folder.
ie, you should never enter your CD-Key from within a mod.
Making the file "read only" ensures that it works all the time,
and you will never need to re-enter your CD-Key again.
==============================================
5) HELP! I keep getting 'Run time error 53 File not found'...
Solution:
Uninstall the mod, and re-install.. make sure you
browse for your RTCW folder when asked during
the setup, as the installer does not search for
your RTCW installation.
Note: if you have RTCW-GOTY, then browse for that folder.
==============================================
Please let me know if any of this help,
or if you have another issue

still have the same error as before. didn't install the other files since its xp. i have rtcw 1.33 installed with goty maps before i attemped ww install so thats no a problem. its the right dirrectory. i tried reinstalling the ww from another directory where i extraced the ww archive. yet i still get " Error 1926. Could not set security for file 'c:\config.msi\' Error: 5. Verify that you have sufficent to modify the sercuity permissions for this file. " I am the adminstrator of the computer and the security is low so it shouldn't be complaning about it any ideas ?
Re: still need help
this is still the only report of this error, and we have had
well over 10,000 downloads (probably nearer 20,000)
All I can suggest is to download the mod file again,
the one you have now may be corrupt ?
Let me know what happens
Cheers

Re: still need help
I was installing a program (not WW) and I got the same error. This is what I did:
I ran the install. When I got the error, I opened Windows explorer and found the Config.msi file. I adjusted the permissions on the file to allow full control. After I did that I re-ran the setup and it went through without a hitch. Hope this helps.

that worked
thanks that accutally worked now i can accutally say ww is good now lol
Re: that worked
That is an odd issue..
what happens if you follow the install through, does it try to
repair, or just re-install ?
To get round this you could copy the WildWest folder, and wildwest.exe to a new folder, unintall the mod, and then copy
back. This would allow you to run the mod, while stopping this
wierd problem.

Re: How do I get mp_bin01.pk3?
I've got a mp_bin01.pk3 file in my Wildwest directory and nowhere else.
So I guess it comes with the WW mod maybe download it again?
Re: How do I get mp_bin01.pk3?
I've downloaded it twice, so I'm doubtful a third time will make it work. Starbuck is it possible that you could transfer the file to me (possibly MSN)? I once found a WW server from which I could download it, but it was slated for 1 3/4 hours of time that I didn't have. -Man still looking for a solution!
Re: How do I get mp_bin01.pk3?
I found a server from which I could donwload the file...I've now joined the ranks of the Wild West. Yeehaw! -Man is one happy cowboy!
Re: How do I get mp_bin01.pk3?
