films to watch
i thought it might be fun to get a movies suggestions thread started.
i saw couple of movies recently. after the sunset, with pierce brosnan and selma hayek, was an enjoyable film! nothing spectacular but entertaining and fun. i also saw bridge jones: the edge of reason and i did not care for it much. it was okay...but probably only because colin was in it!
i was thinking of suggesting a few more titles, but after jen watched films that i told her to watch and gave me her feedback...i am thinking i might not be the best person to make *any* movies recommendations!

Presidential Inauguration:
"I George Walker Bush...solemnly swear..."
Jon Stewart: "At which point, 49% of the country also solemnly swore."
it does look cute - I'll probably rent it eventually. Spongebob is my next animated film to see
Friday I was at WalMart with some friends digging through the $5.50 DVD bin and found "Enough" with J-Lo and they all said it was good, so I bought it. Well I watched it yesterday and I LOVED it!
I adore Billy Campbell, of Once and Again fame, but seeing him as a bad boy gave me chills! He was great. And Noah Wyle, again as a bad boy- different, but good!
I even liked JLo and she usually gets on my nerves in her movies.
I really really liked it - definitely worth the $5.50
Re: films to watch
I watched "Alfie" and "Finding Neverland" this weekend.
Alfie was okay. Not a waste of two hours, but towards the end, I was dozing off and I either missed the ending (I don't think I did) or the ending sucked, because I didn't feel any closure from the movie.
Finding Neverland I really liked. It's different, but really good. The little boys in it are adorable and great actors. And Johnny Depp is very good, as is Kate Winslet, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite actresses between Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (GREAT movie!) and Finding Neverland.
Next in my Blockbuster queue is Closer, After the Sunset and something else I can't remember right now
Re: films to watch
a league of extraordinary gentlemen.
i have no idea why my husband and i thought this would be a good movie to watch during a romantic getaway.
because i simply adore sean connery, i will say the film is all right. if you are not head over heels crazy about sean and prefer to watch normal as opposed to really weird movies, then i think you should stay away from this one.

Re: films to watch
I'm not sure I'd call this a film to watch but I saw "Madhouse." If you don't care for gory horror films, don't see it. All I knew about it beforehand was that it was about a guy who goes to intern at a mental hospital where weird things happen. It was definitely bloodier than I expected! There is a twist towards the end which you could probably figure out at some point in the film, especially if you've ever seen "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari."
Re: films to watch
oooh I LOVE gory movies!! There's a reason why the elevator scene is my favorite part of "Taking Lives"!
Is that a new movie? Or an older one? I've never heard of it.
I did see Closer and I wasn't really impressed. I had pretty high expectations and was disappointed.
After the Sunset I loved though. Very enjoyable movie. Nothing spectacular, but enjoyable
Spanglish is out on DVD now and I highly recommend it. Some more movies I want to see come out at the end of the week that I was hoping to get right away, but I don't have time to watch them, so they'll probably have to wait until school is over
Re: films to watch
I just saw "Around The Bend." It's about four generations of men in this one family. The patriarch is played by Michael Caine, Christopher Walken plays his son, who's been estranged from the family and his grown son for 30 years, and he, in turn, has a little boy. It's quirky, sad, funny, cute. One of them dies early in the film and the others have to carry out his final wishes, which involves a quirky road trip and a lot of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Funny line in the film has Chris Walken's character saying "Don't b**ch to me, I'm the vegetarian!"
it was good. i am not a big movie person and i loved the play much better, but there were at least two positive things about it:
1. the phantom was pretty darn hot! (well, at least until he took the mask off)
and
2. christine has an absolutely *amazing* voice.
meet the fockers
i loooooooooved it! i laughed the entire time, it was a fun movie to relax! i thought the first part was funny, but i found this one even better because it was more easy-going and just out there.
Quote:I started Ray, but was bored the first half hour so I shut it off.
I just watched this myself. I didn't feel like sitting through it all at once so it took about 3 or 4 installments, lol. I thought Jamie Foxx did a great job with the impersonation. I just found the movie long and, despite Ray Charles' talent, there were many times in the movie when I didn't like the person very much. He seemed to consider some of the people closest to him pretty disposable.
Re: films to watch
it's been awhile since I updated my movie progress
Hmmm what have I seen since my last post?
I *might* give away some stuff as I review- I'm trying not to, but I can't always control myself
1) Man on Fire- I liked it. Great gory scenes that I'm into. I think I enjoyed the ummm..rectal bomb way too much though Dakota Fanning is so great. I thought there were a lot of holes in the movie though, just some minor dropped plot points that bugged me when I was done with it, but it was still good.
2) A Series of Unfortunate Events: Eh. This wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible. I've heard the book is tons better than the movie, which I don't doubt at all, so I may check out the book.
3) Meet the Fockers: OMG - I could go on and on and on about this movie because I loved it *so* much! It was so funny! I fell in love with Dustin Hoffman in his first scene and now I never say "chimichanga" right - of course now i say it just to say it wrong The twins that play the baby are so cute and just so much fun to watch. Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand were fabulous - and you just can't get funnier than Robert DeNiro wearing a boob. I rented it from NetFlix, watched it twice, then the next day went and bought it at WalMart while it was on sale. Definitely worth the $15 to buy or $4 to rent.
4) The Incredibles: Shut it off after like an hour. It sucked.
5) The Count of Monte Cristo: GREAT movie. Two very hot guys as leads and just really enjoyable. Poor Jim Caviezel, why can't he just get a role he doesn't get flogged in?
6) A Touch of Pink: I got this one for free at Blockbuster and I'm kinda glad I didn't pay for it. I had never heard of it before, but if you know me at all, you know that due to the title, I had to rent it. It's about this Indian guy who is gay and his mother is coming to visit him and is staying with him and his boyfriend. Oh, by the way, she doesn't know he's gay and she wants him to get married ASAP. It's alright, but neither the story or the acting is that great, really. Oh and Kyle MacLachlan from Sex and the City (Trey) is in it. As the spirit of Cary Grant. Yes, you read that correctly.
7) Ocean's Twelve: Not bad, not great. Decent. I watched this one awhile ago, so I don't really remember, but it was good.
8)Hotel Rwanda: I had high expectations - it was good. I was expecting something a little more...explicit, which sounds odd, because in many ways, it was explicit, but I took a genocide course last semester and HR was tame compared to some things we saw. The only part that really got to me was when they were in the van on the road...it was very much like a great scene in "The Killing Fields" which is about the Cambodian genocide. It's sick, but accurate, sadly.
9) Tales of the City - Disc 3: Okay, I'll be honest here and say I only rented it to see Billy Campbell's butt and I started at the beginning and fast-forwarded until I saw it, then put it back in the envelope and stuck it in the mail the same day
That's all! Until Sunday when I get home and watch the Phantom of the Opera that is waiting for me
Quote:I think I enjoyed the ummm..rectal bomb way too much though
that little girl is absolutely precious though.
Quote:Okay, I'll be honest here and say I only rented it to see Billy Campbell's butt and I started at the beginning and fast-forwarded until I saw it, then put it back in the envelope and stuck it in the mail the same day
okay, that *is* bad jen! at least i ordered all the disks, in order, and plan on watching them until i get to the butt scene! now i need to add you to the same list kendra is on and you know that's bad!

And there was quite a bit more than the butt view! Was the view worth it?
Re: films to watch
i watched tales of the city disc one and i really liked it. i can't wait to get the remaining episodes. i love michael and his new boyfriend. "he is okay if you are into greek gods".
Re: films to watch
I saw The Grudge. Save your rental fee. Like they say, I just wasn't feelin' it. The guy in the Godzilla rubber suit in the 50s was scarier.
Re: films to watch
I saw Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith this weekend....YAY! Nothing better than my Ewan up there on the big screen. I loved it. But then I'm a Stars Wars fan and I loved how they ties up the loose ends and explained the whole Darth Vader suit. I thought Hayden Christensen was really good in this one.....much better than in the first one. And at least we know now that he didn't turn to the dark side just for solely selfish reasons. He did it for the love of a woman, for God's sake! Ahh....but alas, the boy made some really, really bad choices.
I was actually really excited about all the great trailers we saw for the cool upcoming summer movies--Batman Begins.....Christian Bale looking hot, hot, HOTTTT! Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt....this looks VERY sexy, lots of action and fun stuff going on. Yes, I'm in! Can't remember the rest but all I know is, it's going to be a very busy summer at the movies!
