diesel hard starting
jeep guru's out there needed !
i have a '98 xj diesel that's had starting probs for a while now. it has been to several "experts" but none have fixed the fault. the problem is: when starting, the engine has to turn for around 20 revolutions ( or more ) before igniting. pumping the hand pump on the filter dramatically reduces this, sometimes to a normal start of 1-2 revolutions. the glow plugs have been changed, the injector pump has been rebuilt, the rubber fuel lines have been replaced ( seemed to temp. fix the prob, but returned 2 wks later ). it seems that the engine has to suck the fuel through the system, like the lines are not remaining pressurised, but no leaks are to be seen.
it will be hard to start every time, even if the engine has been switched off for a short period ( 10mins ).
any suggestions appreciated.
