Is your baby goat scouring? E Coli can kill a baby goat in a matter of hours. If that is what's happening, consult your vet. They can prescribe something for the scouring.

You may try giving the kid a bottle of mom's colostrum. Even though you see them sucking, you can never be sure if they're actually getting anything. It's very important that they eat within an hour or 2. If for some reason they aren't getting milk, they just get weaker & weaker. If you don't want to bottlefeed, milk the doe a little before you try to get the kid to nurse. That way you know the milk is accessible. Sometimes a small kid can't suck hard enough to remove the wax plug that's in the opening. Good luck.
my previous reply didn't work for some reason.

This could be any number of things, however, the leading cause of death in kids is attributed to nutritional issues. What type of feed are you feeding your goats? A lot of folks, (including us), believe that the feed at the local farm store is good. Well.... after reading the labels and talking to other goat farmers we soon discovered that the feed was not good. I can provide you with more information if you are interested. Anyways, minerls are very critical as are vitiams to the developing kid. In areas where selinium is deficient problems with white muscle disease can happen. If the doe does not receive proper nutrition during pregnancy then the kids are born looking OK, but then soon become weak and die.
I am not saying this is the primary cause, just stressing the importance of nitrition here.
There is a product we use on our kids as soon as they are born, its called Immuno-G, its available at www.springbriar.com this product is a lifesaver, you give the kids a dose as soon as it hits the ground, before it nurses, then 2 x's per day for the first 2 days. It helps the kids immuno system and leads to healthier kids.
I hope this helps, good luck and if you need anything I'll be glad to try to help.
