I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that when the bridge is finished the existing bridge will also be subject to a toll to prevent the new one being under used. Well if they spend that amount of money on it then people do as they do with the M6 toll road, it's going to look like a waste.
I was amused by the comments from the Friends of the Earth spokesman whose main complaint was that the building process would disturb the river sediments. Normally they’re concerned for the wildlife but now it's mud! That argument will never stick!

Re: Widnes Bridge.
From what I understand the new bridge will be built alongside or near the existing bridge between Runcorn and Widnes. I think it would have been better if they had built it a bit nearer to Warrington, say between the M56 junction at Daresbury and Fidders Ferry. This would still have relieved the traffic on the existing bridge and also on Warrington Bridge at Bridge foot. It would also might have been less expensive as the Mersey is narrower there too.
Yep, I reckon the proposed bridge will do virtually nothing for the town despite what's being said. In fact, it may even make matters worse if people choose to use Bridge Foot to avoid paying the toll.
Re: Widnes Bridge.
They want more people to willingly travel into Runcorn & Widnes? Yeah like thats gonna happen
