Re: When you go out walking/running - do you carry?
I sometimes carry a book, but only if it's bright light. I used to wander around in the half light straining to read from the page then wonder why my eyes were so sore much of the time. Duh! Not to mention the pain from the bruises from banging into lamp-posts.
Tonight though I did carry an umbrella. That ensures that it won't rain.
Re the 'cigarette' option. I have seen this. A woman dressed up in all the fancy designer exercise gear, those little weight bracelets on, power walking - and all the time puffing on a cigarette. Whoooooo boy...

I voted water bottle because when it is hot in the summer, the water keeps me walking longer. I love walking...try to do a couple miles everyday....good thinking time.
Sanduleak...you are the first I have ever heard of or seen that reads while walking Good for you!!

LV,
Quote: I cannot read while walking or riding in the car, as I get quite dizzy.
I tend not to read in the car (as a passenger) as I'm a great one for meditating on the scenery. Tend not to read while driving either.
I was in Italy once, just out of Florence, heading north on the Autostrade, and one of those little pocket rockets the Italians love to drive came by at maybe 140kmh (85 mph) and the 'driver' had the newspaper spread out across the windscreen in front of him, casually reading it. Every now and then he'd lower the page and look over it, to steady the direction he was driving. I let him go past...way waaaay past.

Definately the dog. *L* Except it's a well-diciplined, smart-looking and well-trained dog that heels at my left leg without a leash. (although I carry a leash over my shoulder so I don't get a ticket!)
Usually, there are do-do bags sticking out of my pocket too.
