Update on that demo thing...again.
Posted this before, but the board went down and I don't think anyone saw it..
On Monday I went to my friend's producer's studio to do the rhythm guitar tracks for her demo album. Nothing tough, it was the kinda pop rock you hear these days.
Setting up only took a few minutes, and never in my life have I double checked the tuning on my guitar so often in so little time... Didn't have to adjust tuning very much because I restrung my ASAT Deluxe and Strat a few days before. Producer-guy was surprised that even after how hard he had me banging on the strings, they stayed in tune. Apparently other guitarists he works with have major tuning issues.
Get this... at one point he was talking to singer-gal and said he "doesn't believe in solos" so her songs wouldn't have any...! That's okay, I agreed they wouldn't fit with what they were doing.
In my head I was thinking of Axholio's sig "lyrics are what you put between guitar solos".
In a way it had to be a relief. I'm pretty sure you felt confident bangin out chords, but a solo is very personal to each player I think. Your feel and expressions come out more than they do in your average rhythm playing so if they bashed it or weren't happy it would be more insulting if that makes sense. Plus it's easier to start with for ya.

You're right, it was a bit of a relief. Banging out chords is easy and we got through the tunes pretty quickly.
What made things even easier was producer-guy wrote the tunes and parts out months ago. He couldn't remember exactly what he did so I just had to figure it out and do it. He also had a good idea of what kind of tones he wanted, so I just had to tweak my POD Pro according to his suggestions.
...and what if I pulled a wicked solo outta my butt that day (not likely, but what if)? I CAN'T USE IT FOR MYSELF!!!
btw, during a break producer-guy and I were chatting.. He said he wrote that song "who let the dogs out" (most annoying song ever!), but was ripped off because he was new to the business at the time. I was told by a friend that it was a old popular song from Trinidad... Maybe producer-guy did that particular arrangement.. I'll have to ask singer-gal about that sometime. Anyway, I wanted to kick him right then and there for writing it, but he's a big man and could probably eat me for lunch, so...
