Trade Skills
OK, I am going to bite the bullet and become the guild's resident tradeskill fanatic. I plan to slowly become proficient in as many trades as possible over the next few months. This is a ton of work and expense, especially for skills like tailoring, but I am doing it anyways because of the growing list of tradeskill quests with kickass rewards like the coldain shawls, new planar manuals, earring of the solstice, and many more. The other just-as-significant reason is to provide the guild with any tradeskills we might need. You might be shocked at some of the VERY nice stuff that can be made or quested with tradeskills these days. Check out the page at here, for some quest examples, or here for some armor examples.
I am already at 175 in smithing, and plan to get as many skills as possible to 200 over the next few months.
If anyone is willing to help, all I ask is that you donate any unneeded tradeskill items you come across to the cause. There are trade items dropping or foraged in every zone now, some with many items. If something drops that appears to have no real use, chances are it is a tradeskill item. (stuff like windstones, essence of whatever, lava rocks, etc) If you find that the vendors won't give you much for any and all types of ore, pelts, silks, meat, and hundreds of other things, I'll be happy to pick them up wherever and whenever. If you give me something I can't directly use, there is a loose network of tradeskill folks to trade with in the bazaar, or to sell and buy other stuff I do need with. In return, you will get a guild trademaster to help you for free with whatever combines you need in the future, for your own quests and items to use.
Other help I might find useful at some future point is things like enchanting of metals by enchanters, imbuing of various things by various wis casters, foraging certain things by druids and rangers, and so on.
Re: OK
Reave-a-licious, thanks for biting the bullet and taking on this task for the guild. So far, I've not obtained any of the Enchant spells, simply because I had no use for them. When you're to the point when I could be of service in that regard, let me know, and I'll add them to my tome.
Oh, and one more thing . . . now that you're going to be the tradeskills expert, does that mean you'll bake us cookies after each raid?

Re: OK
Enchanters also get the ability to solidify mana in vials through spells, so that will be helpful someday too. probably much more often than enchanting metals, in fact.
Yes, after raids I can make cookies =) In addition to the many hundreds of 'roleplaying' type food and drinks like that though, I'll more likely be providing some of the MANY stat enhancing foods for regular use. Most of these last many, many times longer than standard food, and give significant stat bonuses as long as you keep them in inventory. For example, Misty Thicket Picnics have these stats: miraculous meal, STR 5, STA 5,WIS 5, INT 5, HP 20, mana 30; wt 0.1. Not a bad 'buff' always have on, eh? Especially when you consider you can have a stat drink with similar stats 'on' at the same time as well.
Got my baking up to 80 last night already....i am going to work on these things more gradually than at once, basically taking a night for it here and there whenever I feel like time off from leveling. If you ever need something made and happen to know how hard it is, you can always check out my current skill levels on my profile here. This is a long, hard road, and you won't see any skills of 200+ for a while.

Re: Trade Skills
5th Coldain Shawl down, almost ready for the combine on the sixth and got most of the parts for the 7th =) I'll be looking to gather a group for siren's grotto sometime in the near future - need a nodrop swordfish tooth for the 7th. Should be good xp and potentially great loot for all in there, so not really a hassle.
If anyone has a level ~38-42ish character and wants some free xp, OR character of any level you want to work on velious dwarf/dragon faction with, i'll be spending a lot of time on the wholesale slaughter of drakkel dire wolves in GD off and on for the next few days. Feel free to join. I need probably 9 more nodrop whiskers from em, and they are not at all common.
And by the way....I don't recommend more than one trade skills for all but those who truly enjoy tradeskills. If you ever get the feeling that you want to raise most/all of your tradeskills strictly for the coldain shawls or something similar....don't. You'll hate yourself for it. Luckily I get some wierd joy from accomplishing things with tradeskills, but as i've said before, it is a very long road and tons of work.
As always, if you ever need anything combined, you can check on my skill levels here.

Re: Trade Skills
I actually have to do jewelcrafting to make some nodrop stuff for the 7th shawl, believe it or not. So, if you don't want the hassle or the expense of raising it, I can do combines in the future after you enchant anything that needs enchanting.
One trade skill wouldn't be too bad to learn tho, especially jewelcraft, since components to get quite good at it are all storebought. Be warned that it is rather pricey, though, and there is not a huge market anymore for most goods that you'd produce.
Re: Trade Skills
Just did alchemy up to a decent level, and I can now make you guys things like this (and more) at cost:
Blood of the Wolf (SoW) ~6pp/charge
Invis to Undead ~11p/charge
Shrink ~10p/charge
Damage Shield ~10p/charge
Enduring Breath ~12p/charge
They are also in the process of improving alchemy on test, so I expect to be able to make a lot more useful stuff soon. Lemme know if anyone wants any stuff made at cost. When we get to raiding a lot, there is some other very useful stuff for big mobs or fights, like stackable mana regen etc.
