Thunder Bolts
Well, the delicate sound of Thunder is about to become a whole lot... delicater? After many long months, the Thunderstorm is finally passing. I wonder how many other references to "thunder" I can make before this is all over.

As of today, I'm stepping down as co-administrator of Dark Side of the Monkey, and I am also stepping down as co-contributor to The Funny Pipes. Now, some of you may already be thinking, "Whoa! Pepper must have told him to fuck off! 'bout time!", or "Finally! Thunder left that abusive ape! You go girl!" Nope and nope. Pepper is still my bitch, and I his. And, our bitchship remains unbroken.

But, the fates of FP and DSotM are now entirely in Pepper's hands, and I've already discussed as much with him a few days ago. I'm sure he'll inform you all of his plans and thoughts soon enough, and all questions on that issue can be directed to him (*puts the bitch on the spot*). Whatever he decides, he has my complete support. And, I'm sure he has yours.

On the issue of my decision: Simply put, I'm retiring from the production side of the net. All of YOU can entertain ME from now on! Hah! I just wanna surf The Great Big Stupid Nothing and enjoy the ride. Ok, so I'm really just too lazy to learn flash animation. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

So, thank you one and all. My 15 months as a DSotM administrator might have lasted just 15 days if you all hadn't helped make it so fun to keep it rollin'. And, that's why it's difficult to pull myself away from these projects now. It takes far more than fancy graphics to make a messageboard worthwhile, and the humor and personalities here are why I've put so much time into this site. And, they are the reason I'll continue to play here even after I step down.

However... I will no longer be playing under the screen name "ThunderDroid", which I've used since September 1999 for nearly all relevant communications and projects (first registered at Nightly.Net). In light of my retirement, it's really only appropriate that I retire my trusty screen name as well. People do things like this all the time on messageboards when they want to establish a new identity on-line. I suppose I'm more interested in having no identity from now on, and leaving the name "ThunderDroid" behind me as a symbol of all those experiences and labors. For those who might be interested, the nuts & bolts link in my signature (new address and newly updated) is a fairly good sampling of Thunderstuff from the past couple of years.

What screen name will I be using? Not sure. I gave the name "Old Toby" a test drive here earlier today, and I think I like the sound of it (even though Old Toby is already 0 for 1 in the Internet Scavenger Hunt, damn The Ray). So, I might go with that. But, it really doesn't matter what name I go with. I'll be back to post here, but not as ThunderDroid. Simple as that. This goes for Nightly and all other forums too.

So, I guess that's it. I find myself unusually shy about even making this announcement, since it's more like FYI than a Big Statement (tm) in my mind. Maybe that shyness is a good sign, and will help me get to where I want to be. This isn't really a big deal at all. But, obviously these changes warrant some explanation, and my on-line friends certainly deserve it. My email box is still open ( roundedthird@yahoo.com ), as are the private message features at both EzBoard and Nightly. And, I'm still "here", at least as much as a person can be "here" in this setting. I'm simply redefining what "here" means for me within this extended community, and acknowledging that it's time for me to move on. And, in the end, the smitch you take is equal to the smitch you make. Huzzah!

Thank you, Pepper! Thank you, bunch! And, I'll see you on the Dark Side of the Monkey. Unclog your funny pipes ®.

And one more chimp who isn't here...
This about sums it up right here -- :thumbsup -- . Not a sign of agreement, or approval, (though it could certainly function as the both of 'em) just blind stand-by-you sentiment.
