Re: This Place Is Dying
Why must people constantly compare PBA and Boycott Advance? There is no competition here, just fun and variety. People, it gets really irritating, so if you want to bitch or gossip, then take it to AIM, or Hotline and bore somebody there. People who are interested in PBA don't give a @#%$ about your opinions.
I tested a few games today to see if what you really say is true about BCA sound being so much better.
Castlevania: BCA wins by far in the title screen with the girl singing. In actual gameplay, PBA and BCA are equal except that BCA is very delayed with sounds. You jump, and the sound is heard about 3/5ths of a second later. Not a big deal with the lag but some people are picky.
Bomberman Advance: PBA has very crystal clear output in this game, no apparent problems. BCA has many scratches and clicks in intro and gameplay, and for some reason a lot of the sound output is missing or very very quiet (I traced it to the GBC compatible sound). This is probably just a bug in Richard's porting of the emulator, and not the code of the Win32 version.
Kuru Kuru Kuruin: Equal quality, PBA lags at some parts in audio, but only for a second or two and it kicks in again.
Mario Advance: Equal quality, once in a while a minor, almost impossible to hear click comes from PBA.
THPS2: Equal quality, PBA is very slow when emulating this game causing sound to be very lagged, with high frameskip, they are the same. I am working on optimizing my 64-bit math opcodes.
Rockman: Equal
Mr. Driller: Equal
F-Zero: PBA is clearer in menus, and intro, but BCA is clearer in the actual gameplay (CPU lagging bug on PBA's part again I believe).
There, you see, they are both good programs, and if you own both, you can emulate just about anything. Kind of like DGen and Generator, one runs things the other doesn't, and the other runs things the other doesn't. If you have both, you can run just about any Genesis game ever released.
Re: Try Now
That was based off the latest release of BCA...as well as the latest beta of the windows version, as I am a registered version and receive up to date betas.
Actually
I like to masturbate to www.goatse.cx pictures because I can just imagine how lubricated that sweaty @#%$ is!

WHO THE @#%$ DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!!!
Pardon my language but WHO THE @#%$ DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!! You burst into a forum for a GameBoy Advance emulator and start flaming it like some crazy bitch. This software was created by Nick for no other reason but his own personal enjoyment. He didn't have to make it public nor does he charge money for it. Yes I see your point that the current release of BCA is better than the current release of PBA, but you don't need to scream it and encourage Nick to STOP PBA! Is there something wrong with you? I don't know about you but if someone gave me a free Pepsi and another person gave me a free Coke and I liked Coke better, I wouldn't go up to Pepsi guy and scream my head off about how he should stop giving Pepsi out to people. What harm comes to you if Nick continues PBA. What they hey, why don't you go yell at Mr. Bannister (sory to bring you into this Richard) for putting out Boycott , which can't run Zelda, Link's Awakening perfectly, while Virtual Gameboy can. Do you see how stupid what you are doing is??!! Personally I hope that BCA and PBA both survive and contine to grow in an, if nothing else, playfully competitive manner. I'm thoroughly disgusted with your posts and think you should probably direct your opinions elsewhere, like a wall. Thank you.

I have to say that is bad to allow people who likes to say @#%$ up things like the one edited by Noah. And I Think that they should be FORBIDDEN from this forum.
I have emulators for NES (RockNES), SNES (SNES9X), GBA (Boycott Advance), GBC (Virtual Gameboy), PSX (Virtual GameStation). And I own a GBA and it's freaking awesome. I'll register to be able to download The PBA Emulator. I really want to have that emulator because BCA is rather slow on my G3 400MHz iMac. I get 15-20 fps and the sound is awesome in the latest version 0.2.2 .
I think NoahFex should release the current PBA beta and see how many people start downloading it.
I know that both the PBA and BCA are great emulators and both the authors of them. Continue updating the PBA emulator cuz it's worth it...
flames
yeah... I don't see any reason to get upset here....
first.... Playboy Advance is written from scratch on the Mac for the Mac, (this is no lie, I used pba since the very first version, back when it didn't even have any graphical output at all... and the first rom it run propertly was ConsoleDev running at amazing 5fps or so, a few versions later it run Chaos89 and ConsoleDev both flawless and reasonably faster at about 75fps on my G4/400).
Boycott Advance is not written by R. Bannister, it's ported (now porting might not be the simplest thing either always, especially not programs that's thread based since MacOS wasn't until recently very good handling preemptive threads, but it was possible but alot of efforts was required to get it work... (MP threads for example is one type of preemptive threads for MacOS 8.6/9) - No... MP threads doesn't require a MP machine to work. Byteorder may also be problematic at some times.) anyway it's not really fair to flame Nick cause this and that doesn't work yadda yadda. I will recall PBA was in the first place written as a development tool for PBA, along with a simple (and buggy) ARM7TDMI assembler (now discontinued), now it happends to run alot of games aswell that's good.... but don't complain about the games it doesn't run, afaik nick never had nintendos official pba reference, stuff isn't that easy to reverse enginneer on handheld. I think it's just lame to behave that way.

Absolute crap. Mac version of BCA has identical compatibility to the PC version. Mac betas have identical compatibility to PC betas.

Just a few points for Fredrik
Boycott Advance is not multi threaded. There is a single thread of control. On the Mac, a seperate thread is used for video blitting on MP machines, but this is nothing to do with the BCA core.
Byte ordering was an issue for a while, but this should be entirely sorted now.
