The Pact by Jennie (Updated - Chapter 15) Hey, it's Evie! As promised, I'm posting some of our old fic. I didn't think it would be right to post it with my usual screenname so when you see this one, it's just me posting old fic with permision of the authors who may not have the time or are no longer around. This one is a classic. It was written by one of our founding OTL sisters, Jennie, a while back. As far as I know the entire fic is no longer up on the web. But now you will be able to read all 24 chapters, if you keep checking back. I truly hope more of you start posting. As it is we have some great stories up already and I'm happy everything is starting off so well! Yay! Keep your eyes open for some fun fan stuff coming soon! In the mean time here is chapter 1 of THE PACT by Jennie ENJOY! Please post your responses to the story, so I know you want to read more. ******************************** It had been one month. One month of no worries, no thinking, and just plain fun. And after this they had to say goodbye. The gang gathered together for the last time, everyone knew it was, but no one said it. Speaking had a way of making things more permanent. Graduation had been upon them in a hurry. One minute they were doing homework, worrying about prom, applying to colleges, and then the next minute, they were set free. The night of graduation was reckless. He remembered it clearly, as if it were last night. Everyone agreed to go to the party that was in Hafuner, the next small beach town over. It was being thrown by the local high school graduates in that area and it seemed to be the place all the Capsidians were going to. He, along with all the other guys, Dawson, Pacey, and Henry gathered at Dawson's house immediately after the ceremony to get ready to party hard. Even though Henry was still stuck in high school, he was part of the group being Jen's boyfriend and the fact was never questioned. The girls, on the other hand, collected themselves next door at Jen's. The girls were inseparable at that point. Jen and Joey had become each other's confidants and at Andie's insistence, Sarah, Dawson's current girl friend, had joined the clique and fit in perfectly. The night was flawless. Taking two cars on the hour-and-a-half long trek, they communicated with each other on "borrowed" walkie-talkies from the local police precinct. With Sarah driving in the lead and Pacey following they chatted about the weather, sports, sex, and anything else that they could think of except the inevitable topic of college. This was continued not only through the night but also the next three weeks. Seeing everyone together that night, Jack felt complete. It was then that he came up with the idea. When they were all exhausted from dancing and drinking until 4 that morning, they helped each other to the nearby hotel where they had reserved one room. Cuddled together on the two twin beds and on the floor, Jack had told them his brilliant plan. They all agreed and went to sleep, looking forward to the weeks to come. Now as he sat by the fire, looking out into the night, he knew the inevitable break-up of the group was upon them, and no one knew what to do about it. *** Joey shivered against the crisp night air. As she leaned further in toward the dying fire, she pulled the thick and furry blanket close around her. They were at the Friefeld Manor, located around sixty miles away from Boston, in the middle of nowhere. Jack had decided that for the last two weeks that they could be together, they should spend it at Jen's old grandparent's estate, which she had recently inherited from her dad's parents. Tonight was the last night before heading back to Capeside tomorrow. Jen, Jack, Pacey and Sarah were all going to college in Massachusetts, whether it be Boston College or UMass, and they were travelling together next week to get settled. Dawson and Andie were heading to NYU in two days to find an apartment together. And of course Henry was staying back in Capeside to finish out high school and then was planning to join Jen at Boston College. Then that left Joey. Joey was leaving for Harvard in the morning. She was the only one that was going away alone. She was jostled out of her thoughts by Pacey who was loudly doing his impression of the Capeside cheerleaders. He was standing to the side clapping his hands and sticking his chest and butt out as far as they would go. As he did a semi-cartwheel and tried to end doing something that looked to resemble the splits, the boys groaned. "At least your setting your goals high Pacey," Joey sarcastically commented. "But I don't think that the UMass cheerleaders can keep up with your witty comments." "Oh, my dear, disdainful Joey. Why must you always be bitter? Just because you would never be able to look as good in the short skirts and tight tank tops…" He was cut off by Andie smacking the back of his head. "Ouch! What was that for, honey?" Andie glared at him but couldn't keep a straight face. She leaned in and softly kissed his lips and then rubbed her nose against his in an eskimo kiss. "Owwhh, sweetie, why do you got to embarrass me in front of my posse, huh?" Pacey complained with a smile on his face. Joey, at this point was losing interest fast and retreated back to staring out into the surrounding woods and lost herself in her thoughts once again. She didn't know why Andie and Pacey kissing each other bothered her so much. She figured it was just because it had been a few months since she went out on a date, much less had a steady boyfriend. She glanced over at Jack who was also lost in thought. He looked adorable all wrapped up in a wool blanket pulled over his head and tucked tightly under his chin. The only thing sticking out was his cold, red nose. Joey almost laughed at the way he was rocking trying to keep warm. Suddenly he stood up. Everyone stopped jabbering and looked up at him towering over them. "I think we should make a pact," he said. "I think that every year we should come here for the first two weeks in July and catch up. You know that we will all be busy and it's going to be difficult to stay in touch all the time. This way we can always have a time where we will see each other. No matter what happens. We should bring current boyfriends or girlfriends, and later, wives, husbands and kids." He looked around. He realized that he hadn't given it much thought before he said it. He was actually, mostly thinking out loud which he hardly ever did. Jack surveyed the group and was happy and surprised to see nods and smiles. "I think that that is a great idea!" Dawson exclaimed. Joey had to admit that this did make her feel better about going away alone. She knew that she would be able to make it through the year knowing that she would see everyone the next summer. "Especially Dawson and Jen," she thought. Dawson had been her best friend since they were little and while they weren't as close as before they still were close. And Jen had become that friend that she never knew she needed. The one who would stay up all night doing her hair, bagging on boys, giggling at eighties movies, or eating junk food. She was there for her so many times, Joey didn't know what she was going to do without her. The next morning they all left knowing that this time the following year they would come back. Chapter 2 by Jennie Here is more... The Pact by Jennie Three years later… 21 year old Pacey was the first one to arrive. Like a little boy, he leapt from the car the second he turned it off and ran inside. He loved it here. He tromped upstairs to the third floor where the bedrooms were. Finding his, he turned on the corner lamp. Even though he only stayed here for two weeks out of the year, this felt more like home than the dorm did. Just then he heard a car door slam and he hurried to the window to see who it was. Dawson got out of his BMW and stretched. When Pacey saw him he realized how long it had been since he last talked to him. Not that he had changed in the slightest. Dawson still had the same baby face. Full of inocence. Pacey reached the bottom of the stairs just as Dawson was lugging his bags in. "D man!!" Pacey yelled as he embraced his best friend. "Hey Pacey! How long has it been? Eight months since we last talked?" "Yeah it has been a long time, hasn't it? So have you talked to anyone else recently?" Pacey had been too caught up in getting ready for med school that he hadn't had the time nor the energy to contact anyone. He saw Sarah every once in a while on campus but they had never been that good of friends to begin with and since she and Dawson broke up last year, she never showed any interest in having a conversation with him so he never tried. "Well, I saw Andie a month ago, I talked to Jen a couple of weeks ago, and that's about it." Dawson flinched almost imperceptibly when he said Andie's name even though he knew Pacey was completely over their break-up considering it was a year and a half ago. Pacey pretended not to notice. "What about Jo?" Dawson frowned. "I tried to call her a few months ago and they said she moved out of the dorm. They didn't have a forwarding number or address for her so I figured she moved out and into an apartment. Has she tried to get a hold of you?" "Nope, not a word. Well she's gonna have some explaining to do when she arrives, that's for sure! Hey maybe she got abducted by aliens!" Pacey smiled but on the inside he was worried about his friend. He could kick himself for not realizing that he hadn't heard from her in a while. 'Oh well,' he thought. 'We just have to wait for her to show up.' *** By eleven o'clock that evening, everyone had arrived except for Joey. They gathered in the large living area which had a wet bar along the back, a huge fireplace, a 40 inch TV, and plenty of sitting space. This was everyone's favorite room. "That's it! I can't wait any longer!" Pacey cried. "We have to call and find out where she is. When was the last time any of you talked to her? Henry?" "Last year…" 19 year old Henry replied. "Jack?" "9 months ago…" "Andie?" "Around the beginning of last school year." "Dawson?" "Probably around nine months ago also." "Jen?" "9 or 10 months ago. She's probably just busy with school. You know how she is. She gets wrapped up in her homework and she loses track of time…" Jen knew it just wasn't like Joey though to forget her friends though. "I'm calling Bessie." Dawson stated as he reached for the phone. He dialed a phone number that he still held locked in his memory. "Hello?" A distant and tired voice answered. "Hi, Bessie? It's Dawson." "Dawson? What is it?" He could hear the panic start to seep into her voice. "Is it Joey? Is she alright?" "Yeah Bessie, it's just that she hasn't arrived here at the Manor yet. I was just wondering if you had a current phone number for her." "Ummmm… yeah here it is. It's the dorm phone number. Did you lose it or something?" "But she's not living there anymore right? I was told a few months ago that she moved out. You don't have her new number?" Dawson was getting extremely worried as he looked at his friends and waited for Bessie's reply. Jen had tears streaming down her face while Jack comforted her. Andie was in the corner of the couch curled up and hugging a pillow. Henry was sitting next to the fire with his head down and Pacey was pacing near the wet bar. "What do you mean she moved?" Bessie could not contain the fear that was in her voice. "I talked to her 3 months ago, she didn't say anything about not living at the dorm anymore." "She called you?" "Yes… she sounded like she was in a hurry so we talked for only a few minutes. She told me that she was sorry she couldn't make it for the holidays and then a man said something and she said she had to go and hung up." "Okay Bessie, I'm sure all of her law classes have been overloading her and she just moved out into an apartment. It's probably nothing but Jo being a scatter brain. Get some sleep and I'll call you in the morning." "Okay Dawson, you better have her call me the second that she gets there though, I don't care what time it is." "Okay Bessie. I will. Sorry to have disturbed you. Good night." Dawson hung up and let out a deep breath that he didn't even know he was holding. He looked up at his friends. This was going to be a long night. *** At 8 o'clock the next morning, Jen woke up and couldn't move her neck. She realized that she had fallen asleep in a chair and her neck was bent in an awkward position. She slowly stretched and remembered what had occurred the night before. Hurriedly she glanced around the room looking for Joey, but to no avail. Since she was the only one up so far she decided that she would make coffee for everyone. As she was walking to the kitchen she noticed that Pacey was missing. Curious, she thought that maybe he went upstairs during the night to his room. She made her way into the grand foyer and up one side of the double spiraling stair cases. After she reached the third floor, she caught her breath and walked to the end of the hall to the room that Pacey always stayed in. When he wasn't there she peered out the window and made sure that his car was still there, which it was. Jen was becoming slightly panicked but then she convinced herself that this was a big house with an even bigger yard so he could be almost anywhere right now. So she decided that he must be on a walk or something and turned to go back to the kitchen. When she passed Joey's room, she creaked the door open and found what she was looking for. There was Pacey, curled up on her bed holding her sketch book, sleeping soundly. "He must really be missing her," Jen mumbled to herself as she closed the door and went to make coffee. |

Chapter 3 by Jennie Here's something to take your mind off of this for a while. A little smile for you heart. ~Evie "The Pact" by Jennie ************************************** By 9:15 everyone was awake and eating. Pacey silently devoured his omelet and then had an idea. He jumped up startling everyone and grabbed for the phone. "Pacey, what are you doing?" Andie asked. "I'm going to call Harvard and see if Jo is still taking classes there." Pacey rummaged through a drawer and pulled out one of the many phone directories. "They aren't just going to give out that sort of information man." Dawson said warily. "I know that." He located the number and dialed it. "Hello. My name is Douglas Witter and I'm calling from the Capeside Police Department regarding a missing persons case." He paused as everyone snickered and held his finger up to his mouth "It seems as though one of your students, a Miss Josephine Potter, has been reported missing and we were wondering if she had been attending any of her classes." Pausing again he let himself relax a bit. This was easier than he thought it would be. "She's not registered as a student anymore? When was the last time she had a class there? ….. Hmmmm…. Could you find out who her roommate was? Melissa Goldstein? Is she still in Hallowell Hall room 312?….. Well thank you so much for your time and effort Mrs. Davis. … Yes I hope we find her soon. Thank you again. Bye." He immediately dialed the dorm phone number and waited for Melissa to answer. "He should have been a detective," Jack muttered. Pacey gave him one of his patented crooked smiles. "Melissa? Hi my name is Pacey and I'm calling about your old roommate Joey…. Yes I know she isn't going to Harvard anymore. Do you know where she went? … uh huh… really?" Pacey paused and looked shocked. "But do you know where?… Has she tried to get a hold of you at all?…..Oh, okay." Pacey smiled. "Well I'll let you get back to your boyfriend. Bye." "Well, what did she say?" Dawson asked. "It seems as though Jo fell in love with a guy and ran off to get married to him." Pacey stated unemotionally. *** Joey was in pain. She was laying down on something cold, but was afraid to open her eyes. She faded in and out of consciousness thinking that she needed to do something or be somewhere she just couldn't remember. Soon, the memories of what had happened slammed into her head one after another. She had been packing for the trip to the Manor when he had come home. He said that he had good news for her, that he got her an audition, and then he saw what she was doing. "You're leaving me aren't you? Josie, how dare you leave me after everything that I have done for you!" "I'm not leaving you Daniel. You don't have to be so paranoid. I'm just taking a vacation to see my family." Well at least I'm not really lying, they are kind of my family. And if I told him the truth he wouldn't be happy about it. "I don't believe you, you whore! You're cheating on me aren't you? Slut!" That was when she smelled the alcohol on his breath. Joey was instantly frightened. She knew that he had a temper but when he drank it was a different story. "I'm not cheating on you, Daniel. I never would, you know that. Do you want to come with me? To meet my family and friends?" She knew that he could hear how nervous she was. He stepped close to her and brought a hand softly to her cheek. She flinched and looked up at him. Just as she made eye contact he brought his hand out and back handed her across the face. She instantly fell to the bathroom floor because she wasn't anticipating it. While she was down, he leaned back and kicked her in the stomach. "Don't lie to me Josie." Daniel said in a calm, even voice which made Joey even more nervous. "Go unpack, you aren't going anywhere. Tomorrow you have an audition." And then he left. Joey slowly pushed herself up off the floor. She had to call Dawson, she had to tell them that she couldn't make it. They would understand. She pulled herself onto the bed and looked to where the phone was. But it was gone. He had taken the phone. She winced as she ran into the kitchen. That phone was gone also. Slowly she gave up, not knowing where he was and not wanting to make him any madder than he already was. She would have to call another time when he wasn't around. He had never hit her before today. She wasn't sure if she was in love with him or not, that's why she never got married to him. She wasn't sure what she should do. Common sense told her that she should leave him right now and never come back, but where would she go? She did not want to go back to Harvard, and they probably wouldn't even take her back and even if they did they wouldn't give her her scholarship back, that's for sure. And she didn't want to admit to herself or anyone else that she made a mistake or that she hadn't made anything of her life. If she admitted that then she might as well move back to Capeside, the place she tried so vainly to get out of, and she would NEVER do that. Besides she liked it in LA. And she knew she had some acting talent so having an agent for a boyfriend is like a dream come true. She got to go on auditions and get a portfolio made without spending a dime. Maybe she could hold out in this relationship a little bit longer until she got her big break and she could support herself. She could handle it. Just do everything he says and he won't start hitting again. Just then she heard him come back in and sweetly say, "Honey, I'm sorry for yelling at you like that, let's go to bed." She knew this was his way of saying I want sex, but she could deal with that. "How ironic, though," she thought, "that he only apologized for yelling at me." *** 11 months later… Pacey, now 22, was curled up in his apartment trying to get a few minutes more of sleep before he headed to the hospital. He stole a glance at the clock and gave up. Still unable to focus completely, he opened a drawer in his nightstand and grabbed the bottle of aspirin. Putting it back, his hand brushed against the cold metal of a frame. "Don't look Pacey, it's just going to depress you." But even as he thought this his hand reached out and pulled the picture into view. It was of him, Dawson, and Joey at graduation. God, he missed Joey. After the two weeks at the Manor, he had enlisted a private detective to look for her. He even went as far as asking Doug for help. But nothing ever turned up. For the next six months the whole group searched whole-heartedly for her. But one by one they each realized that this was Joey's decision. She was the one who disappeared and who held the power to get into contact with them. Pacey just couldn't make himself believe that she would just disappear. No matter if she fell in love with someone or not. He slowly put the picture back, tucked away in the drawer and sauntered over to the shower. Once the warm water poured over his body, he felt all his troubles and memories wash away down the drain. After getting dressed in dark slacks and a white dress shirt, he grabbed his lab jacket and raced into the kitchen to scrounge up something to eat. While looking he noticed he had a few messages on his answering machine. "I wonder how long those have been there," he pondered. He was hardly ever at home since he spent his time divided into the hospital, school, the library, and the occasional bar hopping and one-night-stands. Noticing that he only had a few more minutes left before he had to leave, he grabbed an apple and pushed play. Dawson Leery's energetic voice instantly filled the room. Pacey groaned. As much as he loved the guy, Dawson had a habit of calling and talking about things Pacey could care less about. Dawson was now a very well-known movie critic. In fact he was dubbed the "New Siskle and Ebert." So the second Dawson said, "Hey, Pacey, I was reviewing this new movie that's about to be released and you wouldn't believe who I saw!" Pacey was out the door and on his way out onto the New York street to hail a cab. But what he didn't hear was Dawson finish and say "I saw Joey! That's right! Our little Joey Potter… well actually now it's Josie Parker… she's starring in her very own movie which is terrific by the way…." Edited by: EviePJlvr |

Chapter 4 by Jennie Things are getting even more interesting in this chapter! So read read read and have fun! "The Pact" by Jennie Pacey's week was hell. Since graduating from high school, he spent everyday at school, summer and weekends included. As a result, he finished UMass with his bachelor's degree in Pre Med in 2 ½ years instead of 4. Immediately he was accepted in to Med School which was currently in his second year. Two more years and he was a pediatrician at age 24. He was proud of himself, and he just hoped that it would make him happy. He hadn't found anything that made him feel good in a long time. Not since Dawson and Joey as kids. Even though he still talked to Dawson and saw him every once in a while, things just weren't the same without Joey. They both needed her. She balanced the friendship out. Without her they didn't have this unspoken connection of protecting. When she was around they felt that they were her protectors and that brought the two men closer. Without her they didn't have that anymore. In three weeks he was leaving for the Manor. He loved going there but it was difficult for him to drop everything. He felt guilty for leaving his studies and the hospital, so for the few weeks before the trip he tried to make up for it. He spent super-long hours at the hospital, moving from floor to floor as an intern, and then he went home and studied all night to wake up early, go to school and then start all over again. He was lucky if he would get four hours sleep at night. So Pacey was extremely exhausted as he walked into the hospital break room on Monday morning. He had gotten three hours of sleep the night before, studying for a test on the heart. At 4:30am he was in the shower and at school by 5:00. After taking his cardio test two weeks early he made it to the hospital a little before 7:00. He didn't have to be there until 8:00 so he stretched out on the couch in the empty and especially quiet room and promptly fell asleep. He had a deep, dreamless sleep and when he awoke he was no longer alone. Two doctors, five students (such as himself), and a few nurses littered the room. Pacey glanced down at his fancy Timex watch. He chuckled to himself. He never thought that he would be one to wear fancy rings and watches. He was amazed sometimes by how much he had changed. But when he saw that it was 12:20 he jumped up in a panic. He hurriedly ran over to the small round table which his fellow students were sitting at relaxing. "Well, well, well… look who finally decided to join the living," cracked his good friend Cindy with a huge grin on her face. "Why didn't anyone wake me! What did I miss? Oh, no… is Judith mad?" Pacey was nervous that this would end his internship here. He had heard rumors of people falling asleep in side rooms and being fired or kicked out of the internship program. "No, Pacey, I am not mad," a stern but laughing voice said from behind him. Pacey turned around to face his boss and mentor, Dr. Judith Russel. Before he could come up with a witty remark, Judith, which she insisted on being called, spoke again. "Pace, you are wearing yourself out! I told them to let you sleep. I will begin walk-arounds with you guys in an hour so eat now while you can," she said addressing the entire group. "Oh and Pacey… stop beating yourself up about this. That's an order." And with that said, she walked out the door. Pacey turned around and sat down at the table. He was tempted to put his head down but he was afraid that he would fall asleep again so he tuned into the conversation that Cindy, Mike, James, Bill, and Conner were having. "It's one of the best movies that I have seen in a while," Mike was saying. Mike was 28 and the oldest out of the six students in this program. He was raised in a small town in New Jersey and moved out here to be with his wife who was a kindergarten teacher. He was the only one who was married and got a lot of flack about it too. "I hear they are already talking about it being nominated for a couple of Oscars." "And it doesn't hurt that the girl who plays Makena is hot!" Conner added. Conner was the horn-dog of the group. Even more-so than Pacey, which Pacey found hard to believe. As a side job to pay for school, Conner was a stripper at a local club called "Spicy Toys." He made a lot of money doing it and spent a while trying to convince Pacey to join him, but Pacey could never convince himself to do it. Conner was Pacey's best friend here in New York and knew all about Dawson, Joey, Andie, and the rest of the gang. In fact, he was the one who found the private detective to find Joey last summer. Pacey had invited him to come up to the Manor this year to meet everyone, and Conner had readily agreed when he saw a picture of Jen and Andie. "What movie are you talking about?" Pacey asked. "It's called 'I Can't Breathe.' It's an action-adventure movie but it's also REALLY romantic, so I hear. It's the perfect date movie. I really want to see it, I just need someone to ask me," Cindy said, smiling and batting her eyelashes at Pacey. Ever since they first met three years ago, she had been trying to go out with him on a date. "Cindy why don't you just go alone like you always do hon." Pacey mischievously smiled. He didn't understand why she hardly went out on dates. She was really pretty. She was short and had deep red hair that was cut right to her shoulders. And she was very curvy. Conner had been trying to get her in the sack as long as she had been working on Pacey but to no avail. Cindy just shot Pacey a look to kill. "So who is in it again?" she asked trying to change the subject. "Kevin Story, you know that 26 year-old punk that all the teenyboppers swoon over? And a newbie named Josie Parker. She absolutely gorgeous." Bill was almost drooling. Bill was a local who never dated and tended to be really shy. When they all went out he would always just sit to the side. "She has these great big eyes, and her lips…oh they are so full. And her body. She wears these tight dresses and body-suits the entire movie, oh man…" Conner was at it again. Pacey and Cindy exchanged knowing glances and Pacey rolled his eyes. Cindy stood up and walked over to her locker and pulled out a stack of magazines. She came over and sat back down and started flipping through them. Conner took one out of the stack and opened it up to a random page. "Oh, my God Cindy. Can you believe that she actually wore that dress?! Just look at the way she's sticking her chest out. Don't flaunt what youdon't got honey." Conner raised his voice a few octaves and inherited agossiping tone. Pacey and Cindy were rolling with laughter. By this time the three otherguys had trailed over to the small TV and were watching a football game. "Oh, hey! Here she is!" Conner exclaimed. "Who?" Cindy asked. "The bombshell, Josie Parker." "Let me see, if she's as beautiful as you say…." Pacey's voice trailed off as he stared at the magazine layout. "Joey?" Edited by: TrueLoveFic at: 3/22/03 1:35:04 pm |

Chapter 5 "The Pact" - Chapter 5 by Jennie Pacey was at his apartment staring up at the ceiling, but not really seeing it. He turned over and looked at the pictures in the magazine for the thousandth time. The first page consisted entirely of one picture. Joey was in a bathing suit that barely covered anything and was laying in the sand of some exotic beach. She looked like a model. "Hell!" he thought to himself, "She looks better than a model. When did she start looking like this? She used to be such a tomboy!" The other pictures were of her at home in her kitchen, at a charity event, and one with her boyfriend, Daniel Webster. He was amazed that he found himself becoming jealous of this guy. Sure, in high school he and Dawson had been protective of her but it was never because of jealousy but because she was like a sister. And now here he is looking at a picture of his so-called sister figure and becoming turned on. He reached across the bed to the nightstand and picked up the ringing telephone as he glanced at the caller ID. "Hey D." "Hey Pace! So did you get my message? Weird huh!" "What message?" "The one where I talked about Joey." "Oh… well to tell you the truth, no. I actually found out today at the hospital after seeing her in a magazine." "She looks great huh…" Dawson trailed off not knowing if this was a blessing or a curse. After the past year and a half of no contact, he and Pacey were finally getting over the fact that they lost their best friend and all of a sudden they have a huge, unignorable reminder. "Yeah…" "Hey, I uhhh… I have the phone number to her agent. I've been debating whether or not to call. What do you think?" "I don't know D, it's up to you." "I think I'm gonna do it." "Okay. Good luck man. And call me first thing afterwards." "Sure Pace. Are you okay? I mean you aren't your usual witty self." "Yeah, I'm just a little overwhelmed… and I miss Jo." "Me too buddy, me too. Talk to you later Pace." "Bye D." Pacey laid down on his back and resumed staring at the ceiling again. His mind swarmed with memories of their senior year. "Pacey, stop it! I can't breathe!!" Joey was laughing hysterically. "What? You don't like my pick-up lines? Aren't I sexy? Admit it I'm turning you on!" Pacey got up from sitting on the floor of Joey's living room and crossed over to the couch where Joey was rolling with laughter. He stood in front of Jo and kneeled in front of her as he spoke in a low, suave voice, "Is there a rainbow, because you're the treasure I've been searching for." "Do I look turned on to you?" Joey couldn't stop giggling. Pacey took this as being a 'no' and sat next to her, so close that their sides were completely touching, from their shoulders to their feet. Joey stopped laughing and gave Pacey a quizzical look as he leaned in to her, pulled her hair back and started whispering in her ear so closely that his lips kept lightly brushing her ear. "So… Joey, what's a nice girl like you doing in a dirty mind like mine?" Pacey's voice sounded seductive and Pacey was proud of himself. At that moment Joey started laughing even more and this time Pacey joined her. *** Dawson looked at the phone number long and hard before finally picking up the phone ten minutes later. He took a deep breath and dialed. It rang four times and finally was picked up. "Mr. Webster's office, can I help you?" From her voice alone, Dawson could tell that she was either in the middle of something or she was just about out the door. He peered at the clock. 6:30. Maybe a little late to be calling an office, but oh well, this was important. "Yes, my name is Dawson Leery. I need to speak to Mr. Webster please." "Okay Mr. Leery, one moment please." He heard a click and then some cheesy salsa music came on. A few minutes later he heard a gruff voice demand, "Do I know you?" "Not personally sir, no. I'm Dawson Leery, a critic in New York. But I wasn't calling about your movie-" He was abruptly cut off by the same arrogant voice asking, "I don't have time for you or your petty concerns. Good night." Dawson heard a dial tone. |
