My name is Assarim Estoban, once proud Whisper Guardian in service to Lady Nephia of the Autumn Court, now a survivor on an unknown land with nothing much to keep me going. This is my first entry for this journal, which I found amongst the wreckage of our ship. In a way, it shall be a prologue of sorts, for I shall explain those that are with me, and how we have ended up in this predicament. I am fortunate that I am not alone, for four others were spared by the merciless storm that brought us here.
Revan Kathas, a Whisper Guardian like myself, is conscious. However, he has suffered from a painful gash in his arm. While we have managed to tend to his wound and stopped it from bleeding, it is uncertain if he'll recover from such severe bloodloss. Revan and I have served side by side for many years, and it is he that I have the closest bond with amongst the survivors.
Taldhiol, or Tal as his friends call him, is still searching through the debris in search of other things that we can salvage. Taldhiol Gaur, one of the Eternal Warriors of the Summer Court, had a reputation of being relentless in combat, and it is safe to assume that the rumours are true, for his body is riddled with battlescars. While most would try to hide them in some way, Tal seems to wear them with pride. His intense gaze is unnerving, but it is good to know that we're on the same side.
Mezannin Dridok has kept to himself since we pulled him ashore. I wouldn't say I am surprised, for he is one of the Magi, a mage. They have always kept their own counsel, since the founding of our nation. I would have thought that our current plight would cause him to open up to us, but I guess the code of the Magi is stronger than I could ever imagine. All he seems to do is dig around the local flora, pulling out random weeds and flowers. I can only assume he is getting accustomed to the ingredients he can use for his spellcasting. As far as I am concerned, he can do that all he wants, for we could use his powers if we are to continue surviving.
Of all the survivors, the one that intrigues me the most is Sasha Calibrien. I had not seen much of her while on our voyage upon the ship. However, I feel I owe her my life, for it was she who had pulled me to shore when I came to. I have no idea what her history is, and she seems to be reluctant to speak of it. While my curiosity begs me to dig further, I shall remain content with the knowledge I have of her. From what I can see, she seems to be familiar with knowledge of the Courts, even as far as recognising the Whisper Guardian code of conduct. Sasha also seems highly resourceful. Even as I write this, she's helping Tal with a huge crate. Hopefully it contains food, but I doubt that it would have survived the unforgiving ocean.
How we all came to be on this unknown land was due to unfortunate fate. The merchant ships of Amaridia had landed upon a new continent when one of their ships had gone off course. When they returned, they brought back incredible treasures beyond compare. I myself saw one of them, a sceptre made of ruby and sapphire, intertwined. When the High Lord ordered the nine courts to send representatives to join an expedition to this new land, Revan and I were handpicked by Lady Nephia to represent the Autumn Court. The different courts were never one to be close to each other, and our journey was one of silence, with members of each court sticking together. However, two months into our journey, we spotted the continent. We were glad to finally see land after so long at sea, but it was then that our lookout screamed. What I saw, I could not believe. However, after talking to Revan, Tal and Sasha, there was no doubt as to what we saw. The clouds themselves had come to life, dividing and forming winged beings that descended upon our ship. We armed ourselves for combat, but it was for nought, for as soon as the creatures hit us, so did the storm. We had no idea where it had come from. All I remember was the unforgiving wind, the searing rain, the crash of thunder, and the flash of lightning.
I lost consciousness then, and I came to when Sasha slapped me before proceeding to pull me to shore. How long we had been adrift in the ocean, I do not know. Whether we landed upon the continent we had seen is also beyond my knowledge. All I know is that I survived, we survived. Sasha's calling for me now, so I shall end this entry.
I woke up from a terrible nightmare, where winged beasts descended upon a black storm that ravaged my ship and threw me into the sea. However, upon waking, I realize it was less a nightmare and more a memory. The campfire is dying out, and I am forced to huddle close to it to even feel its warmth, let alone getting enough light to write this. Sasha is on guard duty, having relieved my shift a while ago. I can see her sitting at the outskirts of our pitiful campsite.
Many questions plague my mind, and I can’t seem to shake them. Hopefully by writing them now, I’ll be able to see the answers to them more clearly. What were those winged beasts that attacked us? Why did they act aggressively towards us? What was that storm? How did the five of us survive? Why did the High Lord send only one ship? So many questions, yet no answers. Since we arrived on this beach, we have had no sightings of our attackers. Yet I can’t shake off this feeling that we are being watched. Even as I write this very sentence, I can feel a presence lurking in the jungle beyond the beach, amongst the trees. Am I just paranoid? It seems that Sasha feels it as well, for I can see her shrugging uncomfortably. Then, as suddenly as it came, that sense of being watched and dread disappeared. I am certain of it now. We are not alone, and there is someone, something, that’s watching us. I am ending this entry here, for I can no longer sit here awake and alone. If I feel this uncomfortable, I can only imagine how Sasha feels. I am going to keep her company through her shift.
As I write this, we have left the beach in search of a source of clear water. However, I am writing this entry to keep note of what I can only call a miracle. Revan Kathas, my brother-in-arms, has made a complete recovery.
Tal took the last shift after Sasha's, and all he remembers is a low murmur of voices coming from the jungle before he fell asleep. Falling asleep is a rather inappropriate way of putting it, for according to him, it felt as though he was coerced into sleeping. When we asked him what he meant, he mumbled a curse beneath his breath and promptly refused to talk about it. More importantly, when we had awakened from our supposedly induced slumber, Revan was healed. Even his limp, a reminder of the War of Fire and Ice when the Summer and Winter Courts waged war, no longer bothered him. In fact, we all felt completely refreshed.
Mezannin has opened up to us more now, if only because of this strange incident. He believes it is the result of magic, but he does not recognise it as any that he knew of. He described it as being more primal, more natural. Sasha on the other hand seems rather calm about the entire situation. She looks at it as a blessing of sorts from our god Emorial, and doesn't really feel the need to delve into it much further.
Revan is of course absolutely ecstatic about his incredible recovery. According to him, he dreamt of beings of such ethereal beauty that touched and soothed him as he lay in slumber. They sang to him, comforted him, then departed as mysteriously as they came. It was then that he woke up with the rest of us to discover his wounds were healed.
Since then, we have decided to find a source of fresh water. While Revan's recovery is a blessing, that doesn't change the fact that we are shipwrecked on an unknown land. We need to survive if we want to know where we are and what's going on. Hopefully we'll find a source of water soon. Tal says he can hear a river in the distance, but I question his judgement. He seems really paranoid of our surroundings ever since this morning. Why I do not know, which only serves to strengthen my lack of trust in his guidance.
As for what I think of the morning's events, all I can say is that I have a similar view to that of Sasha. However, I can't help but wonder about the dream Revan had about those strange beings.
We're making a move now. Tal seems eager to stay on the move. For now, I shall follow his guidance. Till the next entry then.
