The Cinquain - A challenge.
One of the more popular forms of Cinquain is that requiring only five lines made up as follows:
One noun
Two adjectives
Three verbs (or parts of verbs)
A four-word comment
A synonym of the first word.

Here is a (not-so-good) example wot I just writ.

Alps
Immovable, silent
Challenging, calling, repulsing
Comfortable in their strength
Mountains

I find them a good exercise for getting to the gist of a subject in as few words as possible. A kind of sketch or blueprint perhaps for something larger. But if they're well-written, they stand up perfectly well on their own as a legitimate poetry form.

Have a go.

Cheers

I just did this on another board but our challenge was to start with a colour word. I'll go find the ones I did and post them. I had fun with the exercise even if they are a bit crude and the person who gave us the format was not specific about nouns/adjectives etc.

Emma/Lizzie's Go
Purple,
soft, painted,
stands, nodding, blown,
passionate, serene,
Irises.

Green,
wild, deep.
flashing, widening, piercing,
aware, kind,
Eyes.

Grey,
soft, blurry,
sly, sleak, streak,
love, distain,
Cat.

Hey Lizzie,
LOVED the cat.
Disdain fits perfectly.

Thank you, Peter. I may not be a poet but I can still have a "ton of fun" with it!

I'm not overly familiar with this form so this thread is a welcome introduction. Thanks folks.

Lizzie, I like the 'cat' verse also. :) Nice work.
