The Chase
The Chase
Both Razel and Hal stream through the dark space, ultimately to a destination only Razel knew. Hal follows, thinking of both Emma and Dmitri at the same moment. He just wanted to know why, why Dmitri would do such an unforgivable act. As they fly through the emptiness of space, away from any colonies that may be in the vicinity, Hal wonders where it was Razel was taking him, and for that matter, how he knew where to find Dmitri. Hal’s face pops up in front of Razel on his com-screen, “where are we headed?” Razel takes a deep breathe, then somewhat calmly answers, “this isn’t the first time Dmitri has ‘gone off on his own.’ I made it a point to record the area in which he usually goes off to be alone. Every time he had done this, it’s always in the same place.” Hal nods, realizing how hurt Razel had just looked, how he must have suffered such a betrayal. He didn’t try to understand the relationship Razel and Dmitri had, but Razel definitely had changed since the last time he had seen him, and he seemed absolutely torn by the recent events.
Dmitri sits silently in the cockpit of Chort, smiling at space and the stars and anything that he might not see with his naked eyes. The silence is broken by a proximity alarm, alerting him to incoming MS’s. He sits up in the seat, scanning for the possible threats. I knew you’d come, he thinks to himself, then realizing Hal was with Razel, smiles extra hard, knowing the possibility that he may kill two birds with one stone. He remains floating in space, waiting for the two to arrive at his position.
Razel stops Spera far enough from Dmitri to be considered ‘safe.’ He immediately flips his com-screen on, seeing Dmitri’s grin. Hal connects also. Razel says nothing for a moment, Hal following suit. Razel could stare at Dmitri for hours, but Hal eventually opens his mouth and utters a soft but audible, “why?” Dmitri keeps his eyes on Razel, never loosening the stare. "You live with the torment. You live with the constant failures. You live with the little reminders, screaming at you. You deal with the horrors I do....only one thing can silence them.....destruction" is his reply, angering both Razel and Hal equally. Hal, tears beginning to fall down his cheeks, "I poured all my hopes and dreams into peace, with the Queen being the one to bring it, AND YOU DESTROYED IT!" Hal then ignites his Megadriver, the linear sword glowing in the darkness of space from Solidus Epsilon’s forearm. Hal charges forward, ready to attack Dmitri with a swipe of his Megadriver sword. “Hal, NO!” Razel screams, charging after him. Dmitri easily dodges the poorly judged attack by Hal, whiping his heat rod around Solidus’ body and starting the wait gyro. Dmitri spins Solidus and Hal around a couple of times then slacks the heat rod and slams the MS into Spera. The two MS’s crash together, sending them both away from Dmitri and Chort. Razel literally throws Solidus off of Spera, whipping out his LineDivider linear sword and igniting it, “stay back, Hal, I’ll handle this.” Secretly Razel didn’t want Hal in this fight, he wanted this one for himself. This was beyond personal. As Razel charges forward, Dmitri stands floating there, waiting for the attack. As Spera swipes the massive linear beam, Razel feels his hair stand up, then his MS flies effortlessly away from Dmitri’s suit, caused by a device Dmitri must have installed earlier. Dmitri begins to laugh as Razel’s Spera topples over itself away from Chort. Razel gets his barrings and regroups with Hal. “We got to work together. I never thought he was this good a pilot,” Razel says, shaking his head of the anger still there. “Right,” Hal says, wiping the tears from his eyes. As if rehearsed in advance, Razel and Hal split in two different directions, both flanking Dmitri. Razel fires his linear machine guns, Hal his Megadriver linear gatling cannon. Chort seems to weave in and out of the blasts, avoiding all but a few. Razel then dives in and his LineSnatchers thrust forward like two extending arms toward Dmitri. He dodges one, but the other attaches onto Chort’s leg. Razel pulls hard and Dmitri goes into a spin allowing Hal to do a decent amount of damage to the superior MS. Dmitri quickly blasts the line of the LineSnatcher off, releasing him from its grasp, then fires at Razel with his beam rifle while grabbing Hal with his extending arm. Razel easily blocks the shots fired by Dmitri with his LineSnacher linear shields on each of Spera’s arms. As Hal is being reeled in, Razel fires his N.P.L. and freezes Chort’s mid-section. Dmitri feels the cockpit get noticeably cooler. Unable to turn, Dmitri uses his Verniay Wings to turn his MS and try to ram Solidus into Spera again. This time Razel dodgesa and goes in for the offensive, LineDivider in hand. Holding it in both hands he swipes down on Chort, which holds its own with one hand holding its linear lance. The arm eventually does give out, Razel disarming Dmitri and hacking pieces off of Chort, then decapitating it. Razel then cuts the extending arm, and frees Hal. The two regroup for the final attack on the now sensor-less Dmitri.
A familiar face suddenly appears on all three of the MS’s com-screens. “Stop,” Auray says, his MS resting in front of Dmitri’s, it’s six wings spread, “Dmitri is now under Vis Vires protection. You will no longer attack him while either I or my army remains.” Auray then points out his fleet behind Razel and Hal, twenty or so odd battleships floating silently in space. Razel deactivates his LineDivider. His anger takes over and he takes it out on a console on the side of the cockpit. Razel, though somewhat bold and aggressive, was not a stupid person. He knew a losing battle when he saw one, and this was just that. “Let’s go Hal, we can’t win this battle,” he says through grit teeth. Hal agrees, knowing his limits as well. “Hear me well, Dmitri, this is not over, not by the least. I will get you for the atrocity you have committed. And you as well, Auray for harboring him. Remember: what comes around, goes around.” Spera then flies off, followed by Solidus close behind to leave Dmitri and Auray to much discussions.
