The Blood Pit
Ok guys, there are two all-important questions one must ask oneself:
1) Have you ever seen a grown man naked? And,
2) Do you watch gladiator films? :b

Regardless, I used to be a major addict to a PBM game called Duelmasters (by Reality Simulations, Inc.), now called Duel2. A buddy of mine turned me on to a seperate online game, very similar to it call Blood Pit. If you are familiar with DM/Duel2, then you know what I am talking about.

So, check it out at: Blood Pit

Turns run each Saturday. You can have 5 warriors per team and 5 teams per manager. Every other week you'll recieve a new stable of roll-ups that you can use or not use. Every two weeks, whether you use the previous roll-ups or not, they'll be changed or your recieve a new batch. Best of all it is free! Absolutely FREE! No questions. No email sales pitch. No pop-up ads. Nothing, but free PBeM enjoyment. I've been playing for two months now and I haven't even been remotely hounded with spam email or anything of the like.

The game doesn't involve a whole lot of "doing stuff." You essentially set up your warrior stats, then create a fighting strategy for them--all user friendly. Then simply upload that every turn, or check mark the box that indicates running the team each turn. Every Friday night/Saturday morning The Keeper will run the turn and you simply download the results and tweak out any changes to your strategy by the results of the fight.

Free, huh? There must be a catch, like gradually turning you into a disciple of darkness, or a Republican, or something.

Re: The Blood Pit
Too funny.

Though, in actuality, there is no "hidden" charge for playing. The game is absolutely free. To date, I haven't even recieved a suspicious email because of the game. And it isn't one of those referral games. In fact, there is no method for even noting any referrals.

All that said, I know Pete has begun playing, and if anybody else on the forum finds it interesting, I'd like to make room in The Trash Heap to share thoughts, questions and info about the game. The Pitt forum leaves a lot to be desired and getting insider knowledge form one another on warrior info for potential opponents is very beneficial to tweaking strategies to fit challenges.

Again, if you like PBeM format and appreciate free play, I encourage you to check it out.

Oviously my manager name is Stimpy.

My teams are:
Urban Safari
The Lost Souls
More Lost Souls
Distant Water
Little Yellow Bus

Re: The Blood Pit
It's kind of amusing - I'm just getting into the game. Only been playing for about 3 weeks.

Doesn't take much time and kind of reminds me a bit of RPG gaming - without the time requirements... just simply running a team of gladiators and helping them improve their skills, weapons, and tactics based on their performance in the ring. simple and entertaining.

The Keeper at keeper@bloodpit.net

Though, you have to initiate Java in order for the BPClient.jar file to work. It may sound redundant, but that was where my initial troubles were.

Re: The Blood Pit
Sure, here's a couple quick tips:

1) DEX is the most important stat.
2) Think logically, if you design a big and strong warrior, run him as a big and strong warrior.
3) Investigate the Pitt Forum
4) Warriors "evolve" over time in such that the strategies that work early on don't work as well later on.
5) Set up your "Always" trigger to be your best strategy.
6) Initially rely on Total Kill, Lunge, Strike, wall of steel and a bit of Bash/Slash as your initial "always" strategies. Then bump up to an activity level of 7-9. Use triggers to lower the activity when your warrior tires.
7) The manual is located in the forums someplace. If you can't find it, email me and I'll send it to you.
8) Develop your stats primarily over your skills first off. I tend to go 2 stats/1 skill per turn
9) Important skills early on seem to be:
  • initiative (the ability to attack over and over)
  • disarm (the ability to knock your opponents weapon from their grasp)
  • sweep (the ability to trip your opponent)
  • dodge (the ability to avoid being hit)

10) Understand that challenges are important. Challenge guys in your ranking and keep a mental, if not, paper trail of what those warriors do. Then use other warriors to take advantage of their weakness(es). Example, elves use bladed weapons and rely on finesse. If you clad a half-orc in heavy armor scale, or above, you can absorb the damage from the elf, then lay out the pain after they peter out. This doesn't always work, but you get the idea.

Personally I favor feint alot, which is the ability to fake an attack with one weapon and use the weapon in your other hand to attack. It is a bit of a finesse style, but I find it exciting to read.

My favorite attacking styles are strike (it is quick, but do less damage), bash (slower attack, more damage), total kill (going totally bonkers for a kill), wall of steel (swinging a weapon around in front of you nonstop, uses alot of endurance), lunge (quick and nimble, very taxing on the endurance, works well with skills in dodge), calculated attack (relies less on attacking, but maximizes the damage done).

I'll often have my warriors switch between bash and strike in a fight to save on endurance.

I'll often have my elfish warriors move between lunge/slash and calculated attack. Elvish weapons tend to do less damage and I like to have them score some serious critical hits when possible.

Ask questions, lots of them. Will try to help you out.

Re: The Blood Pit
Well, I didnt have time to set everything up before the first turn so my 5 gladiators (Mike's Marauders) all lost the first turn (I was on team setting).

The second turn (after I had read manual and tweaked characters) I won 4 out of 5 individual fights and the one I lost was barely I think.

Woot!

I made a new team this week (Necrovile Exiles)....all elves (dark btw). Hehe.
