Taxable Items
As a new small business owner, I have a question concerning what I can tax and what I can't tax. I own a Graphic/Web Design company in California. These are the items which I we offer that I am unsure of:

1. Graphic Design - We design logos, flyers, brochures, etc.
2. Website Development - We create websites and then transfer ownership of the files to our clients upon completion.
3. Monthly Support - We maintain the websites on a monthly basis, changing text and pictures when neccessary.

I appreciate any help you can give me. I have been reading all kinds of information, without finding a definite answer. It seems as if my line of business is in a grey area as far as I can tell. Thanks in advance.

Re: Taxable Items
You are in the service business, which usually doesn't charge sales tax. I am presuming that is what you are referring to. If you sell a physical product such as computer software, then you would have to charge sales tax since you would be buying it wholesale.

You are in California though and I am not fully aquainted with Ca. law so go look up what businesses are tax exempt from sales tax in your state. California seems to tax everything, like Mass.
