Re: TIDES slipping
Is that a big surprise when half of their roster is playing at Shea (and other than Moreno, it's the best part of the roster that would have been in Norfolk had SP not gotten fired...in otherwords, I'm happy that the Tides finally suck)...
Rookies center fielder Jeff Duncan and 20-year-old shortstop Jose Reyes -- the top two hitters in the order -- ``You have to like what you see,'' Mets manager Art Howe said. ``It's nice to have those two weapons at the top.''
"You get two rabbits at the top of the order like that and it changes what the other team has to do," Mets first baseman Jason Phillips said. "You have to respect their speed and they make the pitcher work much harder. Plus Jeff takes a lot of pitches. Our team is a lot different when Jeff and Jose are playing well."
Re: TIDES slipping
Yeah, it is a suprise. They've maintained a SOLID first place hold all damn season and now they're in 3rd. The players haven't changed drastically. The strong ones are still there.

Well, that's not quite true. For most of the season they stuck closely behind Durham. But nonetheless...what's going on??
I second that...I'm not happy at all that the Tides are tanking!
Exactly 29 games left and we're 8 games out...we have NO time to waste!
Re: TIDES slipping
Hasn't AAA kind of turned into more of a league for guys trying to make comebacks and that type of thing though? Or was that just the Met system over the last 10 or so years?
Either way, you see a lot more players getting the call from AA these days. Granted it's the second half of the year, but almost all of our legitimate prospects are at Binghamton now, with Petersen just joining them recently. Brazell's been killing the ball all year, and he hasn't been promoted. That's what I mean though, guys like Toca stay in AAA forever, and he's not nearly the prospect that Brazell is. Of course their offense looks stocked, but that haven't been scoring runs. So at least we know their following the Met system!
Look at the ages of the position players at Norfolk:
I guess depth in the system is more important than I thought. Everyone who's a real prospect is either with the Mets, or at AA or lower. Look at the names on that 10 year anniversary team though, it can't get any worse than that, can it? Reading that list makes you want to apologize to the people who go to the games!
God's not dead, his name is Frank Cashen, and he retired 10 years ago!

Um...that's what the minors are for...servicing the majors. For instance, Reyes. He was too good to keep in the minors...hence he left the tides. We repeat this again untill we realize that the tides are without stars...DUH!!! They're all taken away from the tides as soon as they start doing well...that's what the minors are for (the use of the word "they" in this sentence is used to refer to Jose Reyes, Ty Wigginton, Marco Scutaro, Jason Phillips, Vance Wilson, Jae Wong Seo, Pedro Feliciano, Aaron Heilman & Timo Perez). The only reason I can think of that Esix Snead isn't up in NY is that they already have enough outfielders (Cedeno, Gonzalez, Floyd, Perez & Duncan). Now as for guys such as Toca and Depastino...what can you do? You can't just drop him because they're *gasp* over 30 and that you think they don't have a chance of the majors. And besides, they're both doing just fine for the tides thanks very much.
To add to that list of yours:
Danny Garcia-23-.272
Esix Snead-27-49 steals (as you can see, he runs a WHOLE lot better than Cemento)
Matt Watson-25-.293
Bear in mind that these are current stats and the tides are going through a swoon...the whole tides team was doing a lot better in the thick of the year.

If Wayne Lydon can keep on improving his OBP, he'll be a lot better than Snead, and needless to say, Cedeno. He's 22, but apparently he hasn't been playing Baseball seriously too long. Snead get's caught less, but his OBP is under .300. Last year Lydon had 87 steals I believe, at Capital City....
It's kinda strange to see so many guys with speed in the minors, but seeing anyone in the minors is a welcome change. I wouldn't want to play 3B against these guys either....
Lydon:
.276AVG. .354OBP 65SB's 77R
Count your blessings though. Those of us up here in New Yawk can't get down their to see most of the good players! I know you'll all weep for us, but it's a lot more expensive, and Shea has a lot less "character," when you suck.....

Well, I've never heard of Lydon before, but it's great that he's doing so well.
It would still be quite a few years till he'd be even at triple-a, so for right now, Snead is the best we've got. Jeff Duncan, Esix Snead, and Raul Gonzalez sounds good!
