Sugarless Gum
What's your opinion on sugarless gum?

I've been chewing it in between meals if I get hungry and it's not quite time to eat yet.

Ange

I try to stay away from the ones with aspartame.

do you chew? I only found one kind that doesn't have aspartame and that's Dentyne Fire..... I'd love to try others!!

I think as long as they are aspartame free it's all good! :hat

Gums that are a xylitol base are the best, sugar free and low calorie. The gum has other benefits like fighting bad breath, inhibits plaque formation on teeth, reduces tooth decay, encourages remineralization of teeth and is safe for all ages. Xylitol is a healthy sweetener that is safe for diabetics as it does not use insulin to be metabolized.

I sell a company called Spry. It comes in spearmint, cinnamon, peppermint and fruit. There are others out there but make sure the only sweetner the gum contains is xylitol-some companies will try to trick you and put other artificial sweetners in the product.

If you find you are getting hungry from chewing the gum this happens because when you begin to chew your digestive juices start working...but if you find you are ok...by all means--chew away.

Re: which ones...
As far as the aspartame goes, I heard about a study done in England over the last 20 years or so using thousands of people that consume varying amounts of aspartame daily. The study found that no cancers or ill effects seemed to be caused by the use of aspartame. Many of these "sugar free" gums have sugar alcohols which add up over the day if you chew alot. These alcohols are not used by the body and tend to be stored as excess cals so beware.

Chewing gum like crazy will also effect your digestive system in a negative way so when it comes time to digest and metabolize your meals there could be issues. THis is probably in extreme cases though.

Re: which ones...
I used to chew a lot,but then I saw the video of me and it looked gross:x I quit on the spot;) I agree with Darrin about digestive distress from chewing the gum.Everytime you chew, you start to salivate and your body is tricked into thinking there is food coming...so digestive juices and enzymes start working expecting food. Eventually it will lead to all sorts of problems. Occasional chew like anything else will not make huge dent...moderation is the key...like with anything else in our life;)

Ciao
