Studying Single Mums
Also wondering who else studies?
What youre studying and how you cope?
What you do with your kids while youre studying (eg who takes care of them)
And what youre future plans and goals are :D

Re: Studying Single Mums
Im enrolled in year 12 this year and I studied 6 months of year 11 last year. Cody goes to daycare near me (he is asthmatic so I like to have him close in case of emergency) and I am studying at Cyril Jackson Senior Campus. I study on campus as Im certain I wont get my work completed otherwise plus theres more benefits like having someone there to help you all the time aswell as getting to meet new people.

This year Ive joined the Student Guild and am helping organise school events such as the ball :D

I dont cope to well to be honest LOL :lol I find it difficult to manage time to study and do homework. I dont get home till 6pm where I put my stuff away and get Cody ready for tea. Clean him up and bath him. Have cuddles and read a story - he's in bed by 8pm then I try and do my homework/assignments.

As most of you know the hard work payed off last year with me recieveing 2 A's and 2 B's aswell as a Senior Science Technology Award (Im in the top in the state for SSTech 11 2003) Fingers crossed my scores this year are as good.

If anyone has any ideas for coping with a toddler going through the terrible 2's while youre studying let me know!!

Re: Studying Single Mums
Im going back to uni next year hopefully to do design. Seths going to the daycare on campus 2 days a week which wether or not I have lectures I will spend those whole days studying and the other days my mum will have him when I need. OOOO furture goals well I have a 5yr plan and a 10yr plan. I need to get my degree finished, work a year or two (depending on pay etc) then me and Seth are travelling and going to base ourselves in England for a year or two where he will go to school and Ill work and hopefully in his holidays we will be able to travel around the place. Then we will either come back for a while then go back to England or South Africa to live, not sure yet on that but yeah I want out of Perth but might end up back here just depends on how things go. :) People have learnt not to tell me it wont happen because well I wont have a bar of it :rollin . We will get there eventually whatever it takes.

Its not impossible Heather! Youre one of those people that once they put their mind to something it happens so I wouldnt be surprised if we were all waving you off at the airport in a few years time!

Re: Studying Single Mums
LOL I'll have to come and visit you!

Ive decided to see if I can do year 12 over 2 years so Cody doesnt have to go to daycare 5 days a week. It wouldnt be full days but I dont think its fair on him to be going all week, he deserves to have some time with me just one on one during the week when everyone else is at work/studying. I want to make sure he has some good personal quality time with me while he's still young!

Luv T xx

Re: Studying Single Mums
I went to do year 12 at Canning College in 2002, but didn't finish the year. I found it too hard to get into a routine with Jordan when I had stupid hours each week and I also had depression which didn't help the situation. I had no motivation to keep studying, so I stopped.

I completed a 10 month course in beauty therapy (cert. 4) last year and Jordan went to daycare 3 full days a week and to my mum n dads once a week. I had 2 full days to myself to study and do homework which without them I don't think I would've passed.

I found it very hard to get up and going doing homework when Jordan was at home. Especially as I didn't really have anyone else to rely on to supervise Jordan for me if I was busy on the computer or reading a textbook, etc.
So I think the more days you can get your kids into childcare while you're studying, the better. It is hard on both you and them, but in the longrun it pays off.

To motivate myself I just always thought about Jordan... how I want him to have more things and more opportunities than he has now. I need to get a good job, etc for this to happen and so needed to finish my course to the best of my ability. Which I did :)

I don't have a specific plan as much as I have goals... I'd like to be working part-time in a salon sometime this year and eventually - when finances permit - have my own small business. I'd also like to move over east with Jordan, maybe permanently, so that's another lot of money to work towards saving. Though I'm sure it'll happen!

Heather..... I think Seth will be the luckiest kid getting to travel so much from a young age like you've got planned. I would love to do that with Jordan..... just don't think I have the saving power. LOL! Good luck :)

And Terri.. that's so excellent about your award and everything... you must be smart as hey! LoL! I suck at science... :lol :lol

Aww thanks Bonny :o :o :o

Ive decided to see if I can do year 12 over two years now so Cody wont have to go into daycare a full 5 days. I'd feel so awful putting him in there 5 full days a week!

Im fairly certain I will be able to do it, and it also gives me next year to bring up my grades if theyre not too flash this year :D

Re: Studying Single Mums
yeh good idea terri. u can't expect to be able to go to school, study at home, spend quality time with your son, and have time for chris AND have time for yourself when your schedule is soo crowded. i think you're doing the right thing by spacing out yr 12... hopefully it'll make life easier for all :)
