Storm trooper movement
Pete sprung a new one on me...
Do storm troopers get an extra movement point in NCM if they haven't moved yet? Never heard of that one.

Re: Storm trooper movement
page 10. under trucks in the 'benefits' section. Gives an extra movement to INF/STuntis not moved in combat. that makes 2 for INF, and 3 for ST (says so directly in that paragraph.'
hopefully this has not changed in the subsequent and hard to find rule revisions.

No, trucks do add +1 movement to infantry-type units. So for standard infantry, this would be 2 territories, for stormtroopers this would infact be 3.

I see it too. Good job... that's a game-changer.
Never have noticed that... kinda curious whether that's a real good idea... but oh well. Just think trucks might only should affect infantry, as storm troops already have enough movement as it is.

Re: Storm trooper movement
It isn't encountered too much for a couple reasons. First, stormtroopers are really used in combat. Secondly, the game is usually over before stormtroopers are effectively used in the game anyhow. Thirdly, railing infantry/st units in the past was used prior to the advent of the rule you can't rail through newly conquered territories.
It may be a stickler, but in the past, I haven't seen this get out of hand. I may have even pulled this on on Pete, which is how he may remember it. Remember, you can only have 8 ST on the board total. While 8 units is nothing to snuff at, it does restrict the game.
Besides, stormtroopers are just infantry in the game anyhow. Albiet, elite infantry. Why would trucks offer them no benefit?

Re: Storm trooper movement
well.. I just move my ST guys in question on UK14 - not by any means a short game. France and Russia have had ST since turn 4, and UK since turn 6, so they are fully engaged in the game. (though UK has built lots more than 8 of them, having sacrificed a bunch in the lost defence of Egypt and various other Mediteranean actions.
I've been using ST a fair amount in recent games, so one sort of gets a handle on their capabilities (which are very nice)

yeah, a great unit. One of my, if not the, most favorite units. I like railguns and tanks as well, but stormtroopers really seem to be more utilitarian. I've also developed a fondness for bombers as well.

I see myself striving for BMRs more and more as I play this game. The 3 attack, 6 move, and anti-boat possibilities make it a very valuable unit - and not much more expensive than a FTR

High-tech units
I'm really finding a lot of use for bombers myself. They are a great anti-ship weapon, able to attack in several different places while immune from a naval attack themselves.
Poison gas has been a real disappointment in this game. A successful attack with it early on would have meant the game in turn 4, but I missed and it's gotten nasty. Even money who wins this one.
Tanks have become a better defensive weapon, I think, than an offensive weapon. At least, that's how I'm seeing them used.
One or two rail guns don't matter much. Pete's stack of them in the Rhineland is a real pain in the butt.

Oh about the storm troops and trucks... I just didn't see how if they're riding in trucks, why they would be driving any faster...

but of course, zeese izz obvious, izz it not? They storm troopers, blessed with better and lighter equipement do not encumber the trucks so much, and since they are better troops, they probably push some of the time for recreation.
