Kevin,
what ever you typed, showed up all scrambled...
Here's the reprint of what you wrote in that article:
Some interesting tidbits from John Heyman on his latest article.
* Mike Piazza is considering playing as a DH in Japan should he not find a suitable offer in the majors.
* He suggests the Orioles should have traded Miguel Tejada when they had the chance last season. His stock has fallen and there are whispers of steroid usage.
* Arod is closing in on his $275m deal with the Yankees. The contract also includes almost guarenteed $30m in incentives. - for example, $6m for setting the HR mark and $6m for matching Mays, Ruth, Aaron and Bonds in Home Runs
Some acctual Mets stuff he talks about:
* He believes the Mets, should they not land Santana, will be big players for Dan Haren. He suggests a trade of Milledge (whom Beane has loved for a long time), Mike Pelfrey and rising star Kevin Mulvey. - personally, I would like to keep Mulvey if at all possible. But if we can get an ace out of it, I'd have to think about it.
* Johan Santana is indeed on the market. The usual suspects are talked about for any trade involving him. Mets, Yankees & Red Sox.
Boston could try to entice Minnesota with either Clay Buchholz or Jon Lester plus Coco Crisp (Minnesota would surely prefer Jacoby Ellsbury, but the Red Sox would want to keep him out of the deal), while the Yankees would have to part with Phil Hughes or at least Ian Kennedy plus Melky Cabrera (the Yankees say Joba Chamberlain and Robinson Cano are off-limits, even for Santana) and the Mets could package Mike Pelfrey with one of three outfielders -- Lastings Milledge, Carlos Gomez or Fernando Martinez.
* He also mentions at the bottom of the article that the Mets will have to do better then Johnny Estrada behind the plate. He says the Mets have spoken to Baltimore about Ramon Hernandez, Texas about Gerald Laird and even the Nationals about Brian Schneider.
All in all, it was a great article. Very good information in it. Also should make you a little happier to know that the Mets are very dedicated to bringing in a top flight pitcher this year. That and a Catcher who will not only hit but play good defense.
