So, you want to WRITE for the OTL mag?
The mag will need writers and people willing to help out. Every writer must first submit a writing sample first then will be contacted privately. So, you can post your sample here, or your questions.

If you have an idea or something you have already written and would like to share or include it, please post that here as well. :)

Hi
Hi, I'd really like to write something for the magazine. I think you asked if anyone had experience with magazines, and I don't, but I'm an editor for my school newspaper, if that counts. I was just wondering, what exactly it was I should write? Once I find out, I'll get straight to work. You can post the answer, or write me an e-mail at Pammy2986@aol.com or Pammy2986@hotmail.com

Thank you so much, and I think this is a great idea.

Samples
You guys I prefer non-fiction samples... articles or reviews or anything like that BUT I will take short fiction samples as well. I just want to see your writing. Also be very prepared to have your work edited by my editors. I told them to be unforgiving and they will. If you're used to nice beta readers or something like that... well, this is going to be different. Feelings and egos have to be put aside because we have to go for perfection and the best amount of professionalism we can muster. That means, I know, my stories are going to be massacred, but it's all in the name of PJ.

If anyone would like to volunteer to be an editor email me at EvieOCon@aol.com. I already have one person. A few more people would be nice to help with the load on her.

Thanks,
Evie

PS Sorry if I'm sounding bitchy I can't tell. I should be asleep right now :lol

Editing
Evie - I was going to email you, but my school email account was down when I tried.

Anyway, I could probably help out with some of the editing. As an almost-teacher, I've got an eye for incorrect grammar, punctuation, and spelling. In fact, it drives me insane. I'm also a bit of a perfectionist, if you can't tell. :lol

If there's anything I can do, just let me know!

I'm very interested
Hi, I'm Shannon.

I am very interested in this magazine and ESPECIALLY writing for it as well, so expect to hear some more from me. I might nag you with questions about it though.

Thanks for all your hard work Evie.

Re: I'm very interested
I like questions, Shannon. Nag away. Just send me a sample and we can get going... oh right we need columns! Okay, I need to sit down when I have a minute and write down my ideas... for the 10th time. Everytime I do it.. I hate it. I'll post what I have scribbled in my notebook tonight so you guys can see.

Laters,
Evie

PS Jenn is now an editor.

Re: I'm very interested
Evie,
I'd be very interested in writing, seeing as I've got about 4 months to do nothing since school ended a months ago.
I'll send you a sample or whatever you need, I just wanted to know what exactly you were looking for. I've got a couple scientific papers, some literary research papers, a couple P/Jo fanfics, among other things.
Tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it:)

Re: Hi
These are a few paragraphs taken from an essay I wrote for English class last term. I'd e-mail it to you, but since I'm already here, I figured what the hell. It's called "My Block", and I was describing . . . well . . . my block. There is supposed to be another paragraph in between the second and third one, but it's too long so I skipped over it.

-------------
. . . After pausing by the front of the building and asking our respective guardians for permission, my best friend and I would cross the street to the park, dutifully looking both ways and walking our bikes across. The park was fairly small, with many trees. It was ovular, with Atlantic Avenue on one side, my block on the other, and the cross-streets completing the elliptical area. There were no swings or slides or a jungle gym, simply concrete paths winding through the trees and benches every few yards along the way.

In the center, in a circular clearing of bluish, dark gray pavement, surrounded by trees and benches, a big statue of stone held court. I never really knew what kind of stone it was made out of, because I was too little to care, but looking back it was probably just cement. It was huge, though. A huge stone statue of an angel, complete with the requisite wings and harp. It stood regally above us lower mortals on a big rectangle of cement that sat solidly in a wide circle of cobblestones, seeming to be protective and loving and watchful, but also cold and hard and condemnatory, depending on my mood. I didn’t pay too much attention to the statue however, unless I was thinking about how there was something extremely wrong with the fact that this huge beautiful angel that protected us and stood quietly in the center of the park, was covered with pigeon droppings and graffiti.

. . . Inside my warm cozy apartment, after being bathed and fed, I would stand at my fourth-floor window in my light blue pajamas with the attached feet, chin propped on the windowsill, and look through the safety bars at the rushing river that was Atlantic Avenue. Just standing there and looking out the window afforded me a wealth of quiet diversion. The authoritative, repetitive wail of a police car, the desperate rapid whine of an ambulance, and the urgent siren and the deafening blast of a fire truck’s horn would sometimes break the steadily whizzing buzz of the cars. The whirling, colored lights of the sirens would play Ring-Around-The Rosie on the walls of the brightly lit stores on Atlantic and the trees in the park. Sometimes, a police car or an ambulance would go down my block. The blue and red and white lights would flash across the base of the statue in the park, which I could see clearly from my window, over and over again. It seemed kind of funny in an ironic sense to me, even as a child, that the emergency sirens would be flashing the colors of the American flag across a statue of an angel, one decorated with bird droppings and graffitti no less.
-------------

That was enough, wasn't it? ;) My e-mail addy is lessie_pj4l@yahoo.com

Helping Out
Hey,

I would not mind being an editor. I like reading what others write and trying to improve upon it. I was also an editor for my high school's literary magazine several years ago.

Re: Helping Out
Hmm... do you need any fanart submissions, or will that be for only fanart goddesses (I think we all know who they are, lol :) )? Evie, you know what my stuff is normally like, but you've got to admit that at least it's not as shoddy as my writing abilities, lol. I'll edit though, if you need it, I've got lots of experience with it from my high school newspaper.
