Siobhan article

Siobhan in full bloom By Neil Mckay
SIOBHAN Maher-Kennedy knows all about the importance of luck and timing.
The Liverpool-born singer watched a promising career with her band River City People turn belly-up because of bad timing more than a decade ago.
But now, thanks to a chance meeting with an old friend - and a small role in a telly soap - her luck looks like it might turn again.
Her first solo album, Immigrant Flower, has just been released and one of the tracks has been chosen as the theme song for a major new BBC drama series starring Pauline Quirke.
Maher-Kennedy, whose husband is acclaimed American record producer Ray Kennedy, best known for his work alongside Steve Earle as the Twangtrust, says: "Fifteen years ago I had a part in a spin-off from Brookside called Damon and Debbie, and the floor manager on that - Mal Young, is now the head of drama at the BBC.
"I've stayed in touch with some of the people from those days and coincidentally, I met up again with Mal through one of the actresses from that time.
"We got talking about old times and he told me he was such a huge fan of Ray's production work.
"I was amazed at the coincidence and he said it would be great if I could sing a song that they had produced for one of his dramas called Being April.
"So I gave him a copy of the album and told him to see if anything there fitted. He got back really quickly and said 'there's one song that fits this drama so perfectly', and it was I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight.
"I hope that it will be released as a single when the series starts showing - it seems like a natural thing to do - and if it gets people interested in the album I'll be delighted.
"It's funny how things have worked out. This has been a bit of good timing after River City People split up because of bad timing.
"We had had a couple of Top 20 singles from our first album back at the start of the 1990s, but the huge dance and rave explosion that happened right at the end of 1991 killed us.
"Suddenly it was harder to get singles in the chart, the record company lost interest, then we started to blame each other which always happens when the chips are down. Instead of sticking together it just drove us apart and shortly after being dropped by the label we split up in June 1992."
Siobhan then made an album with Debbie Peterson from The Bangles and it was while she was in Nashville recording that she met Kennedy.
Both were married at the time, but eventually got married in 1997.
"We've been talking about this album since 1995, but it was a couple of years later before anything was really done.
"Steve was very inspirational, because in the midst of a time when I thought I might never do music again and just be a wife and a mother, he was always encouraging me."

definitely... but still, it makes it all the better that Siobhan's back! I really hope Bright Lights does come out as a single. I don't know what's happening wiht this TV show, it should have been shown by now. BBCi are using the song (instrumental version) in the background on their online trailer for the song.
