Garrett, first off, welcome! Don't get discouraged. It's a learning experience and it pays off big time if you stick with it!
Anyways, enough of that. I have a Raptor 30v2 and whenever it won't start it's usually one of the following:
1. Glow plug burned out
2. Fuel line crimped from fueling moments before
3. Glow starter battery is dead
4. Trying to start with throttle trim all the way down from a previous flight when I shut it off manually
If it has fuel and you have a glowing plug it WILL start! Otherwise your throttle may need a little boost. Try starting it with some more collective?
As for it shutting off in flight, it sounds like it may be running too lean? Try to richen the mixture if that is the case. Your needle settings may need some tweaking. It sounds like you're 3/4'ths the way there already!
Let us know!
