Push-ups
I know that NOT lifting weights and such is sort-of praised for MXer's, as it will pretty much encourage future arm-pump, but can push-ups have a negative affect, too?
I really want to do well this year so I've been putting in a lot of effort this off-season. About 2 months ago I started myself on a program and have stuck to it religiously. I already ate healthy but I also changed my diet a little for the training as I started too (My doc helped with that so no worries there)
The main things I focus on during my routines are cardio, my whole core, and legs. I didn't plan on working my arms. Yet, when I started on my program, I decided and threw in push-ups thinking it wouldn't hurt seeing as I wasn't actually lifting weights. has my thinking been wrong though? I noticed that I have gained some muscle mass since I started, particularly in my deltoid, tricep and peck area. Is this gain a positive or a negative?
I'm 6'1" 19 years old and weight 170.
The way the push-ups fit into my schedule now:
- I'm doing them 3 sets a day
- 4 times a week(mon, tues, thur, Fri)
- For 4 weeks straight of 5 week periods (the 5th week is a rest week)
- I add 10 more push-ups each new workout week.
Currently I'm on my 8th workout week (9th week overall; next week will be my second rest week) and I am doing 3 sets of 90 push-ups.
Thanks,
Ryan
PS I was also curious if using a squeeze ball would be ok? I grabbed one the other day and was squeezing the thing and started to get the same feeling in my fingers and forearms that o get when i get arm pump. Should i start to use these balls regularly? or won't they help?

Re: push-ups
Push ups, core work and lower body work are fine. Weights will not cause arm pump if used under a Motocross specific program like the one we have at the Racer Development Program (RDP). Most body weight exercises will be muscle endurance oriented, but be carefull with any pull ups or similar exercises.

Alright, Thanks, thats what I was hoping to hear. Think I might have to look into the new program too.
