Prelude
Prelude

Trent and Hiro arrive at the docking bay on Colony L7, as they exit their MS’s respectively several mechanics rush over to connect certain hoses and locking mechanisms into place. As Trent and Hiro walk into the false sunlit colony, Hiro squints, not used to the light after the trip from Earth. Trent sighs as he signals a taxi, one pulling up immediately, most likely due to Trent and Hiro’s ESS uniforms. They both squeeze into the taxi and Trent tells the man the address found on the shipment papers.

The taxi driver pulls up to a rather large warehouse on the other side of the colony, after a quite lengthy drive through the traffic on the rather busy colony. Trent looks out the window of the car, noticing nothing but a few people walking down the sidewalk. “Let’s go,” Trent says to Hiro and they both exit the car. Standing outside of the warehouse, Trent and Hiro check the place out, seeing which was the best way to get in. Just then someone bumps into Trent, nudging him a little to the side. He looks to see an older man holding a device in his hands and looking a bit confused. “I’m sorry, officer, I wasn’t looking where I was walking,” the man says politely as his attention turns to Trent. The man looks at the warehouse, then to the device he held in his hands. He turns his attention back to Trent, “have you seen a child with a humped back around here recently?” Trent is caught off guard, “excuse me?” “My…” the man pauses for a second, “…son. He’s the adventurous type, always trying to get into trouble. He’s run away before so I planted a tracking device on his clothes to keep an eye on him. This was the last place he was, now he’s out of range.” Trent thinks for a moment or two, then turns to the man, “sir, would you come with us, we may be able to help. What is your name sir?” The man smiles, outreaching his hand, “Bentho Mentada.”

The three headed back to the docking bay where Trent asks Bentho if he could see the man’s tracking device. Bentho hands it over without question and Trent ascends to the cockpit of Chaos Rain holding onto his ripcord. Inside, Trent attaches the tracking device to his MS, immediately the tracking device telling him where the boy is. The little blinking red dot signifying the location of the boy keeps it’s position, dead in the middle of space where no colony or documented land lies. Trent heads back down to where Hiro and Bentho wait for him. “Mr. Mentada,” Trent says, signaling towards another ESS uniformed clad man, “could you go with this man here, he will take you to the ESS facility on this colony. We are going to find your boy, don’t worry.” Bentho seems to not like the plan, but says ‘OK’ and walks off with the ESS Private.

Trent and Hiro get into their MS’s, Hiro wondering why they were abandoning their mission. Before they even get out of the hanger, Hiro asks, “what about the mission?” Trent shrugs, “the warehouse will still be there when we get back. Plus, I have a feeling there’s more to this than a humped-back child.”

When arriving at the red dot, Trent and Hiro are amazed to see a space station of moderate size, just floating there. “Interesting,” Trent says, scanning the station for life forms. “What’s that?” Hiro asks. “Over a thousand living humans are in there. Do you think…” Trent trails off as a ship flies away from the station in the opposite direction. Trent and Hiro hide from them, not knowing what they’d do if they were found. “Let’s go in,” Hiro says, already halfway to the station. Trent follows the kid to the station and they find access to the docking bay, Chaos Rain prying it open with its bare hands. The two carefully enter the station, not knowing what to expect.

As they exit their MS’s, Trent explains to Hiro they layout he got from his scans of the place. “The docking bay leads right to large room taking up much of the rest of the station, except for a couple of small rooms.” As soon as they enter the large room, they stop and stare in amazement. Looking much like a factory containing many moving conveyer belts and very large machines, neither of them could see any workers walking the floor. Instead, the only people they can see are on the conveyer belts themselves, being dumped into a large machine at the bottom of the room. Trent does his best to hold back the vile in his throat coming up from the sight. He chokes out, “Hiro, go find the controls and shut this down. Most of these people are still alive.” Hiro runs off and finds a rather small control room with all the controls he needed. The machines whirl down to a halt and Trent hops onto the conveyer belt in search of the boy while Hiro calls in backup. As he steps over the dead or just unconscious people, Trent sees what this complex is used for. On the other side of the room he sees a packaging machine, halfway done filling capsules with a thick liquid. Trent suddenly comes upon a realization…this is where Sap was being produced. Not only that, but one of the ingredients was ground-up people. Trent loses it there, throwing his head over the side and letting it all come out. “You OK over there?” Hiro yells from a catwalk. Trent wipes the vile off his mouth and continues his search for the boy, not hearing what Hiro had said.

Eventually Trent finds the boy, who for all purposes looks very dead lying in the pile of bodies. With a more in depth examination he notices the boy shaking, as if shivering. He turns the boy onto his back, then jumps back seeing the boy’s wide eyes staring strait at him. “Are you OK, kid?” The boy says nothing, just stares at Trent with wide eyes. Trent picks the kid up and puts him over his shoulder, carrying him to his MS. As he and Hiro get into the docking bay, their back-up arrives and heads into the factory to try and find as many live people as they can. Trent places the boy safely in the back of his cockpit and starts it up. He hears the boy mumbling, so he shuts his MS down to hear. “I-I-I-I-It’s c-c-c-coming. C-C-C-C-C-Close, s-s-so v-v-er-ry c-c-c-close.” Trent pulls out a first aid kit and give the boy a sedative. Finally the kid closes his eyes and stops shaking. Trent starts up his MS and flies off, wondering what was the boy was muttering about.
