Poetry and Fan art... Well, you said there would be a thread, so I figured I would start it now. You said it was for submissions...and since you want it to be mostly poetry, I figured we should give writers a little heads up. I made this...not sure if we can use it...but it's there if you need it.  Ashley

Re: Poetry and Fan art... I told the kids (Ashley and co.) that they could only put one banner and do a write up on it. But I think I may change that. You can pick three additional pics. I'll try to resize them, but the MUST be black and white! That is really good Maz!! Wow! Are you sending that in hard copy to TPTB? Ashley!! That is such a beautiful banner!! Re: Poetry and Fan art... Maz I've decided that I definitely would like to include it the magazine, if that's still all right with you. Ashley I've just talked to the sony copyright office and the only pictures we can use are the pictures available at www.dawsonscreek.com We can use anything that they have in the gallery. Some of the pictures are a little fuzzy. But what I'm thinking is if we can find the same pictures that are much clearer then that would work even better. My dad (who is a lawyer.. and the reason I'm always scared about getting sued lol) He also told me that even though the pictures they have at the site are from magazines and from the actual WB (their copyright office would have to agree actually the area is very gray) anyway he said that it's public domain if the site agrees because it doesn't have a copyright on it. Ugh, confusing! Well that's it. TTYS, Evie

Any ideas of what i could do with the original copy to maybe help with the whole OTL cause? And Kim, yeah better late than never! And i hate to sound snobby but i am actually proud of that drawing because if you'd ever taken an art class with me you'd know i really suck!

Re: Poetry and Fan art... Well, Maz, If you want to part with it. I'd do something to you know sort of frame it. Maybe put a border around it or a put it onto a thicker piece of paper. Then just send it in. You can scribble Operation True Love some where on it or even slip a little note inside of the envelope you use. That's all I can really come up with. Re: Poetry and Fan art... VERY bad news!! Read these emails... It's the last one I sent to the copyright office that is in charge of the official DC website at Sony and then their response. Quote: Sooo.... guess what that means girls! I think it's fine for us to gloss them up and turn the black and white. (We a printing on black and white paper anyway.. so they won't be able to tell. But we can't make fan art. Ugh! We can use Maz's obviously since it's original. I hate laws. Ashley, you can email me and we can discuss what we are going to do about this. Can we change the size of them and add text to them? I mean, we could probably still collage them side-by-side without cropping anything to make a banner. I wonder if they would get mad.

Re: Poetry and Fan art... Okay...so let me get this straight...by making fan art, we are breaking a law? I'm in deep shit then... Okay...that collage I have, I didn't crop any pictures...just made them smaller and blurry...the other two are actually not even property of the WB. One is from the movie Gossip and the other is from some magazine from Australia. Does that count? Here's my other question. Could we still use the collage? Because the pictures you can see if it's just the normal picture and not stretched. They are all the DC's pictures...but just made smaller. And MAZ...LOVE the picture...I have a few of Pacey and Joey too...actually one of Pacey and Joey and three of Josh...all done in Chalk pastels...it doesn't show up well when done on a scanner.

It's not illegal to make fan art online.. but to use it in print form that will be published distributed and charged for.. it is  If you got the picture from an Australian magazine ... well I'm not sure. If you got any from an american magazine we would have to ask permission. Yeah, copyright laws suck.I think it's okay for us to change the tones and put them side by side and add words! I mean they still look the same. It's not like we are distorting the portrayal of them. But my lawyer dad says we have be careful. As far as what we do online.. it is so gray right now because there aren't many exact laws to regulate it. But we are most definitely not allowed to go over the boundaries in regard to a print publication. I hate it.. but ya know. I'd rather not get sued.

Re: Poetry and Fan art... Well, damn...I guess you do what you have to. I don't want to be sued either. Nice to know that they will allow a person to make fan art. Also, it's not necessarily the WB and DC about the copyrights as much as it is Sony and Columbia Tri Star. They are the ones that told them to shut down Pacey's Pond. The DC and WB don't care so much, it's just that CTS wants to be stingy...kidding. In regards to the poetry. I have a Poem from Kilby that I think is great. She wrote it for P/J that goes along with Four Stories when they're laying in bed together. She emailed it to me. listen to the rain hear murmuring through hours of you and I remembering my surrender to you the ever present morning light with you I feel a warm gold wave curved this child gently falling in love She said that she will email others that she knows who writes poetry and tell them that we need P/J poetry. And Evie, I will be out of town from the 2nd to the 7th. I've read over Jenni's part and emailed it back to her and I am just about finished with the entire history. Just to let you know what's up with all of that. Kimba (a.k.a. Terri) said she has a Pacey/Joey poem also if we want to use it. She just has to find it. Ashley
