Paddington Bone Works
I read this on the news (Monday)
------------------------------------------------
PLANS have been put forward for a nature/ecology park – on a site that was once regarded as one of the most troublesome industrial nuisances in Warrington.
The scheme involved the site of the former Gorton’s glue factory, in Manchester Road, Paddington.
For years, residents over a wide area complained of a horrific smell problem from the works – known locally as “the bone works” – arising from the manufacturing process.
The site has stood empty and disused for some years however.
-------------------------------------------------
This raises two important points!

1 Given the budget for our parks has been cut, where is the money coming from for this new venture? Also given that whole of Woolston Park is now looked after by just one park ranger, who is going to look after this facility? Was it the right hand or the left hand that thought this on up?

2 Secondly and most importantly, I'm now sitting at the exact location of the old bone works and I can assure people that any bad smells don't come from here :D The fact is that the bad smells disappeared blooming years ago when I was just a kid. Likewise, the buildings that are reported as derelict and unused were pulled down about thirty years ago. :D

Staff reporter really should be let out more often to check the facts.

Looking forward to next week’s news that will be reporting on the loss of the Titanic. :D :D :D

Dave,

That's the whole lot as you see it from WWW newspage.

Whenever it's listed as being by "staff reporter" as oposed to an actual named member of staff, I take that to mean it's a press release.

I'll ask for more info but at the moment my IP is being blocked by their service provider (Yet again) Seems that whenever my postings get more than look warm this happens or at least that's how it seems. I have to use a proxy to access the site and it's sooooo sloooow.

Re: Paddington Bone Works
This all seems a bit sneaky!

Tell people your going to get an ecology park/ nature reserve in the press release and everyone is happy. Read the official council letter though and you find a completely different story.

It appears that the area of land occupied by the former “Bone Works together with the “tail end” of Woolston Park will NOT become a park at all and has in fact been earmarked for commercial development. The rest of the area, which is currently wild, will be covered with “green compost” (probably the excess compost from our green bins.) :rolleyes

Call me Mr Cynical but a new industrial estate and tip just doesn’t seem quite so nice!

Planning application 2006/09/279

You may or may not be aware that the council are applying for change of use on land next to the New Cut canal. The want to develop an ECO park, good news and would be off benefit to residents and the wildlife. This is all very well but they are not going to change usage for the full amount of land. The area adjacent to the end of Woolston Park is earmarked for Selling to a commercial developer.
This means that it could be used for anything: Residential (although they say not likely) so this means it will be Commercial, Entrainment or Retail. E.g. A pub, Shopping Outlets etc.
This area at present is extremely busy 8am till 6pm Monday to Friday. The residents have a lot to put up with without having to deal with increased usage at weekends and in the evenings.

The area is a SINC (Site of importance for Nature Conservation) and part of a Public park’ it has varying flora and fauna. Surely this area will be of much more benefit to the surrounding nature and residents if it was included in the development of the rest of the site rather than sold for the development that is likely to be unwanted by those it will affect.

If you are worried about this then can I suggest you contact the following people to let them know that although you are in favour for the application for change of use of the land propose in planning application 2006/09/279 you are concerned about future usage of adjoining land because of possible disturbance of a SINC an also the detrimental effect on quality of life of neighbouring residents.

The plans were submitted on October 19th so there is only around a week left to submit objections or comments.

Mike Bailey who submitted the plans and works for WBC is available on 01925 442836

If nothing is done about this now we may well be fighting against a planning application for something we do not want.

The last application around here was not wanted by the residents or the planning committee but it still went through! This time it is the council who stand to benefit!

Many thanks.

Dave T. (Manchester road resident)
